*When you get to the comma, say the period *

Expanded form: 8 x 100,000,000 + 4x 4,000,000 + 9x 100,000 + 3 x 10,000 + 2 x 1,000 + 8

*Split up the number using place value. For example, an 8 in the hundred millions place equals 8 x 100,000,000.
