Deliverance▪ Transition from a doomed position to a blessed position

▪ Yielding and Submitting in Faith to a Deliverer

▪ Free from bondage, fear, sickness, disease, alliances, associations, addictions

▪ Prayer, Process, Positioning, Posturing, Purpose

▪ Wholeness, Restoration, Recovery, Redemption

▪ “To deliver out of the hands of..., to escape." This meaning illustrates God's rescue of His people from the dominion of Satan and the world system.

▪ Deliverance: (Hebrew word is Peleytah = pel-ay-taw )- to set free

▪ 2 Timothy 4:18 - And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

▪ Romans 6:17 - But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence isfulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

▪ Path – Way of Living; A course of living and acting; a mode of action pleasing to God

▪ God will show us the way, a course or mode of action that is pleasing to Him.

Proverbs 4:26, 27: Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot

from evil.

▪ Here, the word path relates to one’s tracks, entrenchment – Consider the tracks that you are making in life.

Haggai 1:5: Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

▪ Ways – journey, path, way of life, manner of living; moral character

▪ Direction and Discernment of the Path you are on▪ The only way to walk God's path is to walk it with Him. You don’t have to walk alone.

▪ We have a God who is desiring and willing to walk with us

▪ Isaiah 43:1,2: But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

▪ Isaiah 41:10 - `Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

▪ By Walking with the Father, even when we pass through rough roads, trials, attacks, the Father who walks with us with guide us, protect us, and comfort us

▪ You Have to Believe That You Are His and To Trust in the Spirit’s Leading▪ Romans 8:14 - For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

▪ Many Christians do not lack obedience at times – They lack confidence that they are where God is leading

▪ Your Steps are Ordered:▪ Psalms 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

▪ Ordered: to be directed aright, be fixed aright, be steadfast (moral sense)

▪ to be firmly established, be stable, be secure, be enduring

▪ Acknowledge Him Time to Time Regarding the Path you are on▪ Proverbs 3:5-8: Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own

understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. 7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8 Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.

▪ Route – A route is more specific and definite than a path; It is a more designated course or way which is traveled or passed.

▪ Be prepared to receive specific instruction and a more definite plan/route at times in order to receive deliverance

▪ Proper Travel Aids to Aid Your Journey

▪ Map, Compass – Used for determining direction and distance – The Word of Godacts as God’s Map For Our Lives while the Spirit provides us the compass or direction we need

▪ Sustainment – The Word also sustains us and God’s Spirit empowers us so that we will be able to make this journey

▪ Assessing & Overcoming Obstacles

▪ Expect and Plan for Obstacles & Opposition

▪ A Difficult Obstacle is “Faulty Teaching”

▪ Destination: End Results

▪ Getting to where God needs you to be, positioned properly to receive your deliverance (2nd Chronicles 20:17

▪ God does have an “Expected End” –Jeremiah 29:11

False

Teaching

Blocks to

Healing

▪ Deliverance is coming to first realize that there is another path, another course of action, something else that is better than what you are experiencing

▪ David asked God to put Him on the right path to a blessed life, joy, pleasure, and fulness

▪ At the same time, one must consider the tracks they are currently making. This is why recognition and repentance is necessary for experiencing deliverance

▪ To experience true deliverance, you must first consider your condition, the path that you are on, and the need to experience something life changing, and life fulfilling

▪ There is a path, a positioning, and a posturing of faith when it comes to experiencing deliverance and maintaining it

▪ God’s total deliverance of Israel required that they proceed on a path, position themselves to see God move

▪ Although Deliverance is not a “Process” it does require obedience, instructions, order, and obedience

▪ i.e. Naaman, “Go wash in the pool of Siloam,” “Go to a place where I send you”

▪ Recognition and Realization that spiritual change must occur

▪ Repenting from Sin, Associations, leading to Biblical Change

▪ Discernment of false and improper teachings, imaginations & strongholds and Hindrances to Biblical Change

▪ Choosing to live victoriously and sharing God’s plan of deliverance to others

Spiritual Change (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20) – A result of God’s

Transformative Grace

Submission to Change (Romans 12:1,2) – Presenting Oneself

to undergo transforming change

Sustaining Change (2 Corinthians 7:1) –

Walking towards perfection and maturing in spiritual fruit

▪ The World’s process of Change does not truly lead to permanent and redeemingchange

▪ Statements; “Be the Change you want to be” – What if what you want to be conflicts with God’s will and purpose?

▪ This is Self-Serving Change

▪Most people don’t want to change, but just want to avoid the consequences

▪Others want you to excuse or accept their change whether you agree with it or not▪ They want you to change so that can continue their behavior

▪ We make it conditional – If this happens or this has to happen for me to change

▪ We make it inspirational – Waiting on an certain event or moment to change

▪ We don’t consider volitional – One must submit to change for change to take place

▪ We overlook the spiritual – Spiritual change occurs through cooperating with the Spirit of God

▪ We make it situational – Only in certain situations can we see change is required

▪ We think it is only vocational – If I had a better job or standard of living, I am sure to change

1st Samuel 10:22“So they inquired further of the Lord, ‘Has the man come here yet?’ And the Lord said,

‘Yes, he has hidden himself among the baggage.’”

▪ Saul’s life was about to change – He was going to become the first King of Israel, but here he is hiding among the baggage.

There are those who say that he felt inferior and unworthy which means that he was beginning his rule as king with a negative mindset. A likely reason was he felt very insecure due to low self-esteem and fearful

Some of us are hindered to change because of faulty thinking. We hide among the baggage of faulty philosophies, teachings, and thoughts, never experiencing true change

▪ Environmental Change – If I can change/control my environment, I can change my behavior –

▪ Associations: The Bible does demonstrate that we are influenced by our environments. “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33).

▪ Influence of Culture and Other People: One reason God instructed the Israelites to destroy the nations they conquered was that He knew the pagan culture would be a negative influence.

▪ 1st Corinthians 10:14: Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry

▪ Truth: While we can be influence by others and surrounding cultures, nothing can replace the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives as it relates to guiding spiritual behavior

▪ Jesus did not come to save us from poor behaviors but from the death of sin.

▪ Example: The Story of the Prodigal Son: He and his brother were born into same household, but exhibited different mindsets and behaviors – The Prodigal Son has to come to himself

▪ Sigmund Freud and Psychoanalytic Theory – We are a victim of repressed thoughts that lie in our subconscious which controls everything about us

▪ Terrible things may have happened to you, but they don’t have to control you

▪ Joseph (Genesis 45 – 50) experienced a lifetime of grief, mistakes, setbacks, slavery, false accusations, being forgotten, but realized that God was still at work creating a change in Him that He desired

▪ Genesis 50:20: "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.

It all started…Here we go

▪ Humanistic Psychology – People are controlled by their own values and choice

▪ The potential to change is IN YOU

▪ Includes Positive Self Talks and Pep Talks

▪ Self Esteem Programs

▪ Biblical View:

▪ Jeremiah 17:9 - "The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?

▪ Man in his depraved state wants to think or believe that he is good enough

▪ The Answer is not in your ability to change, but in Christ

▪ The driving force for change is not Self-Love, but God’s Love; Not self esteem, but esteeming Christ above all else

▪ Change by the power of rules, regulations

▪ Romans 7:5-7: When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. 6 But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit. 7 Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”

▪ Legalism makes you want to sin

▪ Trust – Belief that God, through His Spirit will provide, support, strengthen, and keep you, not allowing you to be overwhelmed as you go through the changing process

▪ Discipline – Changing is a Challenge. It doesn’t come overnight nor by just wishing it. The Bible says, “Make a decisive dedication of your bodies…” (Romans 12:1 – Amp)

▪ Consecration Stimulates Change – If you have to be committed and dedicated to change for it to take places

▪ Change is Continual and Progressive – Every believer is constantly being transformed and matured for God’s purpose
