In Your Own Backyard Home and Pet Sitting – With Halloween and the holidays upon us, here are some tips to protect your pet. To protect your pet during trick or treating make sure you walk the dog either before or after the trick or treats start their visits. Find a secure place to keep your dogs and cats during the time the trick or treaters come to your home. If you dress your dog up for Halloween or for Christmas, make sure the costume/outfit is safe for your pet. Keep dogs/cats out of the treat/candy bowl. Wrappers and chocolate are not safe for your pet. With Thanksgiving around the corner, turkey carcass, fatty or rich foods and baked goods are not good for our pets either. Many pet stores have special treats made for our pets. Treat your pets to goodies and treats made especially for them. Make sure your pets can not reach lit candles or decorations that may hurt them. Please do not leave your pets outside at this time of year. May pets are poisoned and pet thefts are higher during this time of year. Take care of your pets; they have so much to give in return. Whether you are gone hours, days, weeks or more, even holidays and weekends, call me to care for your home and/or pets while you are away. I customize my services to the home/pet owner providing your pet with the same care and comfort they receive from you at home and I’ll care for your home with the same pride you have for it. I will water our plants and flowers, I will also gather your newspapers and mail. Call me, Jo Ann Hughes, for more details at 765-472-5970 and let’s set up an appointment.

Counting For More - One Dollar Never Did So Much – Last year we kicked off for the first time ever a global “Beauty that Counts” Charitable campaign and it was a enormous success. The Company donated nearly $2 million from the 09 “Beauty that Counts” global sales to causes that change the lives of women and children around the world. In the United States, the donations helped sponsor the groundbreaking Break the Cycle DVD. With the purchase of a Gingerbread and/or Pink Passion lipstick, you will be helping again this year as we reach our goal to help even more women and children. Through December 15th, 2009, every lipstick you order (Gingerbread, Pink Passion) the company will donate $1 to the Mary Kay Foundation in it’s efforts to end domestic violence. As a Mary Kay Sales Director, I will match the donation with an additional $1 personal donation for each tube purchased from me. Mary Kay is truly much more than selling Lipstick, Mary Kay is changing lives of women across the globe one woman at a time. Call Patty at 765-985-9799 for more information on the Lipsticks to purchase, booking a PARTY WITH A PURPOSE or about having your own business to enrich other women’s lives.

The Santa House will be open from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Pictures with Santa will be $3 per photo and with that you get a beanie baby and candy cane! Toys for Tots will be located at the CRC Building from 6 pm to 8 pm. The object of the stamping of the flyer is to get at least half of the page completed and then that individual has the opportunity to win a cash prize. There are three lucky winners that are drawn later that week. Approximately 1200 people come downtown and possibly 500 or so that come through your place of business.

DOWNTOWN PERU CHRISTMAS PARADE

The Downtown Peru Christmas Committee is in the planning stages for the Christmas Parade being held during the Downtown Peru Christmas Open House on November 18th, 2009. The parade will start at 6 pm and we anticipate it taking no more that 30 minutes. The parade route will begin at the Depot on East Canal Street and head north on Broadway and end at the Circus Building. Any interested party will need to be on East Canal Street by 5:30 pm to start lining up for placement for the parade. We are looking for people who would like to be an entrant in the parade. Any individual, organization, school band or choir is welcome to join us. Please contact the Chamber office at 765-472-1923 or Mike Walsh at 765-469-7143. The theme for the parade is “The Parade of Lights”. We are looking for anyone interested to put a float or display in the parade. Any display should have Christmas lights. We ask that the displays not have a real life Santa on them as it would conflict with the Santa the Chamber has arranged. Please participate and share the joy of the holidays at this wonderful event.

Dear Chamber Member, Making health and wellness a priority can mean big rewards for employers. Healthy employees are more productive, have less absenteeism and have lower health care costs. We, at the Miami County YMCA, have considered that it is not always cost effective for companies with fewer employees to have on-site wellness testing. So we have designed a wellness testing program for those companies to be held at the Miami County YMCA. You and your employees can pick and choose to attend the programs that work for you. November 30th, 2009, at 12:00 pm, and 5:30 pm, we will kick off our program by talking about the importance of “Taking Charge of Your Health“, and we will be handing out medical evaluations and other paperwork to be completed before the next session. We will conduct the blood draws on Wednesday, December 2nd, which require a 12-hour fast. Also, due to fasting, we will check body composition, resting blood pressure and pulse for those who choose the wellness assessment. Monday, December 7th, we will conduct the fitness testing. You may schedule this at your convenience. This test is somewhat strenuous so you will need to pass the medical evaluation. Fitness testing includes flexibility, core strength, upper body strength, exercise blood pressure and pulse, and cardiac recovery assessment. Those who choose to have fitness testing will also need to get body composition and resting blood pressure and pulse on Wednesday, December 2nd. On Wednesday, December 9th, we will meet to go over the results of the testing including blood work, wellness assessment, and fitness testing. You may schedule a time at your convenience. We look forward to helping you and your employees meet your wellness needs to maintain a healthy, happy, and more productive work force. Please contact Kathy Brehmer or Michelle for more information or to schedule your wellness program. Sincerely, Michelle Beard & Kathy Brehmer Miami County YMCA staff
