Girls in the Gang is a musical that chronicles the rise and fall of the notorious Boyd Gang of Toronto that robbed banks in a series of daring heists in the early ‘50s. It’s also the story of the women they loved and left behind, and of their passionate and desperate lives. Sometimes gritty, often witty, this play owes much to the “copper” movies and be-bop music of the 1950s, and to the mythology that is the glorious life of the gangster. Ultimately though, this play deals with the tragic consequences of real people trying to live out that mythology

In this funny and thought-provoking romantic comedy, set mainly in New York City in the early 1980’s, Peter and Rita fall in love at first sight, but their fairy tale romance takes an unusual turn. The two lovers encounter an Old Man and are propelled on an unexpected and precarious journey. With humour, intelligence, and compassion the playwright explores the mystery of life and the meaning of true love and commitment. Directed by veteran director Jane Werger, Prelude to a Kiss was a nominee for a Tony Award for Best Play in 1990 and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1991.

What’s a panto? A beloved British holiday tradition, the panto takes a traditional fairy tale and turns it into an interactive, musical, over-the-top romp for all ages. Not just another damsel in a tower, our Rapunzel has a friendly giraffe, a unique Prince and some solid skills - and rather a lot of hair. How will this motley group defeat the evil Dame Gothel and her minions (not Minions, minions)? With some help from a recorder-

About The GuildFrom our simple beginning in 1965, The Peterborough Theatre Guild has entertained thousands of Peterborough area residents and visitors alike with award winning live theatre. The troupe performs its plays in the Guildhall located at 364 Rogers Street in Peterborough. The building (formerly St. Luke’s Anglican Church) was gutted by fire in 1959. A local group of theatre enthusiasts raised the funds to purchase the old church and after extensive renovations, staged their first play just a few years later. Because of the hard work and dedication by this group of people, the Theatre Guild is the only producing theatre company in the region which owns its own theatre.

message From THE CHAIRWe’re proud to present another exciting season of great theatre! This year, as an extra bonus, we begin with an extra musical production. It’s a fascinating Canadian musical drama exploring the lives of women connected to the Boyd Gang of Toronto bank robbers from the 1950s. We also move back to Showplace in the spring with our sensational comedy musical Spamalot! While that promises to be a highlight of the year for so many of us, the rest of the season will be exceptional too. As always, our incredibly talented volunteers will be working and playing hard all year!

In addition to great shows, we’re continuing with Play Readings and Workshops, and even yoga classes for theatre lovers! We believe the Guild should be a place for developing theatrical skills and knowledge while having lots of fun in a safe and positive creative environment. We are a theatre AND a community. Our doors are always open to new members, so please keep your eyes open for audition notices throughout the year, or join us in any off stage role that interests you.

Sarah Goodwin is a photojournalist, who captures the horrors of war in frozen images as a Middle East correspondent. When she returns to her Brooklyn loft after a devastatingly close call with death, she is joined by her journalist partner James, who usually contributes the words to accompany her photographs. Regrettably, James is also suffering from the brutality of war, having witnessed a market bombing in Mosul. Their occupations have taken a toll on them both physically and mentally and as they struggle to find a new equilibrium in their lives, many questions must be answered.

The girls are back at Springfield High (“Go chipmunks”) for more fun and great music! If you enjoyed our production of “The Marvellous Wonderettes” four years ago, you won’t want to miss the sequel - “The Marvellous Wonderettes - Dream on”!

We last met the four girls when they sang many hit songs, first at their high school graduation in 1958 and then at their ten-year reunion in 1968. This time it’s 1969, and the ladies return to entertain at the retirement party of their favourite teacher. Later, having gone through many changes in life, they reunite for their 20th high school reunion in 1978, at the height of the disco era.

So be sure to “get down” at the Guildhall next July and enjoy lots of laughs and more great tunes from the late 60’s and 70’s! You can even do “The Hustle”! (You’re already humming it, aren’t you?)

This heartwarming comedy centres on Joel, a mystery novelist who is suffering from a dispiriting “writer’s block.” He retreats to the small-town family home that his father built, hoping to regain his inspiration!

But Joel’s finances are in disarray so the house needs to be sold, and sold quickly! Enter Emma - a new but incredibly determined realtor- who decides that not only is Joel’s house a “fixer-upper” but so is Joel! Emma focuses all her energy on improving the curb appeal of the house and its melancholy inhabitant! Who should suddenly show up but Joel’s ex, with new boyfriend in tow, intending to get the divorce papers signed.

The comedy in this modern Canadian play is sure, the characters are well-drawn, and the resulting circumstances and actions are often surprising, touching and, best of all, hilarious!

You won’t want to miss this gratifying and touching comedy!
