Follow the footsteps of Spanish explorers to a land of refuge, where limestone hills plunge into spring-fed canyons and golden-cheeked warblers and black-capped vireos nest unencumbered. The endangered songbirds rely on the specialized habitat found in the Balcones to survive, but they aren’t the only wildlife to call the rugged terrain home. Nocturnal animals wander the land at night and wildflower gardens bloom with butterflies and dragonflies in springtime.
