SPX/OTC: Large competitor for two jaw and three jaw pullers. Primarily offshore origin product. Combination of cast and forged jaws dependent on product. Fairly basic designs with bolt/jaw attachments. Low cost supplier.

Posi Lock: Specialty US manufacturer using a patented “cage” retention design. Produces a wide array of manual pullers1 to 40 ton and hydraulics up to 100 tons. Internet, MRO’s, WD’s


Competition

Enerpac: Large manufacturer of pullers…primarily hydraulic cylinder based. Snap-on Industrial partner.

KD: Typically smaller tonnage manual pullers. Feaure a “ratcheting” jaw and tang mechanism to allow the user to easily set the jaws in place.

Proto: Line is similar to SPX/OTC with a number of sourced manual pullers. Pullers use a “swing arm” configuration. Typically lower cost & not easy to adjust/set.

Kukko: Large puller manufacturer in Germany…limited distribution in US (MSC). Premium product, innovation such as stackable jaws “Armlock”, easy adjustment ledger yoke, interchangeable jaw configurations.

A. What Type Of Puller Do I Want To Use?


The pullers reach must be equal to or

exceed the same distance on the part

B. Determine The “Reach” And “Spread” Needed

The puller’s spread is the width of the part

Place the puller jaws as close to the center

shaft as possible


Generally, if you already have the correct “reach &

spread”, you will usually have the proper tonnage. If in

doubt, use the next larger size

C. Estimate The Puller Tonnage
