    Call for PapersSearch for PAARL’s Best Research Award 2016 

    The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) is pleased to announce the Call forPapers for the 2016 issue of the PAARL Research Journal , a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishesscholarly articles and other materials on the different aspects of the history, theory, and practice of library andinformation science in the Philippines.

     All papers that undergo the peer-review process and are deemed publishable by the PAARL Research Committeeshall be eligible for the 2016 Best Research Award. This call is an excellent opportunity for library practitioners/

    information professionals to disseminate their research through publication and oral presentation at a forum/seminar.Manuscripts that are theoretically-informed, but not encumbered by jargon, are preferred.

    A. ELIGIBILITY

    The call is open to all library practitioners/information professionals. Current members of the PAARL Board of

    Directors may submit papers for publication, but these will not be eligible for the 2016 Best Research Award. 

    B. SELECTION, ACCEPTANCE, AND AWARDING

    The peer review process will be used to ensure the following purposes are achieved:

    •  Select the best manuscripts for publication

    •  Improve the manuscript whenever possible

    •  Provide authors with useful feedback, whether or not their works are selected for publication

    • 

    Prevent academic dishonesty•  Familiarize authors with the peer review process, which is the standard among reputable scholarly journals

    around the world

    In addition to standard criteria (such as extensiveness of literature review and references, appropriateness ofresearch data/methods, adequacy of data analysis and presentation of findings, and consistency of research

    findings/conclusions), submissions will be judged on the following criteria:

    1.  Contribution to the existing body of research2.  Originality and innovation3.

     

    Rigorous methodology with conclusions justified by the evidence presented

    4. 

    Overall impact (it shows actual or potential impact)

    5. 

    Special considerations:a.  Deals with problems facing the profession, locally/worldwide;b.  Contributes to the promotion of the profession.

    The authors of the top three papers will be invited to present their research at the 5 th Marina G. Dayrit Lecture Serieson 18 November 2016, with the overall theme, "Librarians as Researchers: A Colloquium on LIS in the Philippines.”

    The Research Committee will select the recipient of the 2016 Best Research Award from the top three papers after

    the Colloquium. Author(s) of the winning paper will receive a cash incentive of PhP 10,000.00 and a trophy/plaque of

    recognition, which will be conferred during the General Assembly in January 2017. Authors of the other two papers

    shall receive a cash incentive of PhP 5,000.00 for each paper and a trophy/plaque of recognition. 

    C. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

    1. 

     All submissions must be original contributions, and must not be under consideration for any other

    publication.2.

     

    The full paper should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (*.doc or *.docx), and emailed [email protected].

    3. 

     Authors must follow the Instruction for Authors (see item D below).4.  It is understood that by these submissions, permission has been granted to publish the papers on the

    website and in the PAARL Research Journal . However, authors will retain the copyright over their work.

    D. INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS: SUBMISSION TEMPLATE

    1. 

    Formatting•  Font should be Times New Roman, size 12. 

    •  Use letter-sized paper (8.5 x 11 in.).

    •  The manuscript should be double-spaced—including quotations, notes, and references—and should

    not exceed 5,000 words. Authors should provide a total word count at the time of submission. 

    2. 

    Organization of the Manuscript

    •  First page

    o  Titleo  Full name of author(s), affiliation(s) and e-mail address(es)

    o   Abstract of 300 to 500 wordso   About the author/s – maximum of 200 words per co-author

    Total word count, excluding first page

    IMPORTANT: Author/s must be identified only on the first page of the manuscript.

    •  Succeeding pages

    o  Introduction/Background of the Study

    o  Purpose of the studyo  Methodology

    o  Results and discussion

    o  Conclusion and recommendations

    o  References

    o   Appendices (if any)
