Collaborate to Educate Ours Sons (CEOS) is pleased to announce its 2017 Essay/Poetry Contest for scholarships for the 2017/2018 Academic year. At least four scholarships will be awarded to freshmen, sophomore or junior males in High School, Vocational School, College and/or Seminary. Two of the four scholarships will be exclusively for African Americans. These scholarships are for tuition support to assist young men to achieve their goal of graduation from college/seminary. CONTEST INSTRUCTIONS In 1,000-1,250 words, write an original essay discussing the themes in one of the following topics OR write an original poem addressing the themes reflected in one of these topics: 1. Recently, we have witnessed ugly
incidences leading to injury on campuses of higher learning. This is unfortunate and unacceptable behavior as campuses should be cultivating minds and presenting rigorous, reasoned debate and discussion rather than expressions of violent hatred. What would you do to change this increasing coarseness of the culture and promote a respect for openness and consideration of contrary views?
2. “Cultural Diversity” how do you see yourself as a positive asset to the community?

SUGGESTIVEBIBLIOGRAPHYFORPARENTS&TEACHERS
While most of us will agree with John Gray that Men Are from Mars and Women are from Venus, we have not pushed the implications of his ideas to the limits. Moreover, it seems that we have not looked at its ramifications over the lifespan and particularly for the educative process. Many parents and teachers expect boys and girls to learn the same way, behave the same way and excel at the same pace. Many boys are punished for being antsy and for questioning the way of what is required of them. Rather than reflecting truancy or disrespect for authority, these may be vital components of a boy’s make up and/or learning style. While we may all concede that it is futile to expect the young to be as sedate as the old; we may not all agree that we cannot expect boys to learn the same way as girls; perform at the same pace as girls or respond to authority in the same way. Yet, these are realities with which we must contend. Over the years, several valuable articles have been generated; informative books have been written and significant talks have been given on the aforementioned problem. What this article seeks to do is bring together for this issue of the CEOS Newsletter a short Bibliographic representation of some of these resources that could prove beneficial for our readers, particularly parents and teachers. Please note that these entries will neither be ranked nor weighted. They, however, will be reflective of the field and hopefully will not only be beneficial but will whet the appetite of our readers for more.

Dear Friend: Please share this LINK PRAYER with ten of your friends and ask them to share it with ten of their friends to keep it going. We want the prayer to circle the globe. Will you help?

Dear God, thank you for blessing me with health, strength, ability, and great possibility. Thank you for family, friends, teachers, and mentors. Please bring peace to our world. Lord, today I ask you to especially bless the men and boys in my family and in the world. Help them make right choices in life. Help us to truly care and them to see that we do care about them and that their lives matter. Help us facilitate their developing caring relationships in their lives with parents, mentors, teachers and other significant persons knowing the difference it will make. Grant them the strength and will power it will take to choose right over wrong; love over hate, the good over the expedient; education over ignorance and peace over strife. Open our hearts to support these goals for all people. Lord, hear our prayer and make a difference in the lives of young men and boys we pray. Amen!
