Center of Youth Voluntary Acvies Lithuania The organizaon was established in 1988 as a union of several student clubs. Deineta is an independent non-polical voluntary service organizaon. We organize internaonal short term youth and teenager voluntary camps in Lithuania and also send volunteers abroad to our partners’ internaonal projects. In 1988 Deineta started a project “youth for nature protecon” and organized 2 first voluntary work camps. each year the quanty of our work camps varies, and now during the summer season we organize around 2-8 work camps, we send up to 20 (depending on the year) volunteers abroad and can host about 20-30 internaonal volunteers in Lithuania. He/she is also the person who makes thelife of the camp run smoothly: takes initiative in solving problems that may occur in organizingwork, food preparation, leisure time etc.The activities of our camps include organizing cleaning and preserving nature, working with localcommunity.Participants work for up to 6 hours per day, weekends are free. Volunteers have 3 meals per day. We offer a chance to try Lithuanian national meals and we expectparticipants to propose their own national dishes.

AccommodationOur volunteers can be accommodated in administrative buildings of regional and national parks ortents. Volunteers must bring their own sleeping bags. Other details usually follow in the info packs.

Extra participation fee:As Deineta doesn’t get any financial support from the state government, local municipalities or anyother institution, we ask a registration fee of 45 Euros.

CYVA01 TYTUVENAI REGIONAL PARK 13/07-27/07 ENVI VOL 8

PROJECT/WORK: Tytuvėnai Regional Park was founded in 1992 inorder to preserve the picturesque landscape ofhills, marshes and lakes, the historical andurban monuments of Šiluva and Tytuvėnai, aswell as the unique nature and cultural heritage.The territory of Regional Park is spread out atthe intersection of Kelmė, Raseiniai andRadviliškis districts.In year 2015 EVS volunteers of Regional Park or-ganized a work camp, where 15 volunteerslived, worked and had some leisure time in

Tytuvenai. Their main task was reed cutting. Reeds are a huge problem in our lakes, because theirfast expansion is making lakes to grow older very fast. Separate international work camps were or-ganized in year 2016 and 2017. Volunteers from various countries lived and worked in Šiluva andTytuvenai. They were building a little stone wall and fixing a wooden walking path near the lake,cutting reeds and fixing wooden infrastructure in Šiluva. But not only that – they had some nice ex -cursions and tried out the Lithuanian sauna.

This year during the camp we’ll have several tasks. volunteers will live in Tytuvenai regional parkvisitor center and work in Tytuvenai area. Their tasks may include:

Cleaning of a territory near the lakes;

Manage the forest near the visitor center;

Works in rose garden;

Works at the church and convent complex;

Cutting reeds in Gilius lake;

Fixing infrastructure Giliaus lake cognitive path;

Other similar activities.

ACCOMMODATION/FOOD: Volunteers will live in Tytuvenai regional park visitors’ center, wherethey’ll sleep on the floor, on mattresses. (During the camp cooking will be done by volunteersthemselves, a kitchen with cooking facilities will be provided (stove, microwave and a refrigerator).Showers and hot water for bathing will also be available).

LEISURE TIME: The free time will be organized independently by the volunteers. Possible to visitfamous pilgrim places in Šiluva, play volleyball or basketball, swim in lakes, visit forest museum,Bridvaisis mound, Tytuvenai church and monastery, rent bicycles and take a tour on Tytuvenaibicycle path (it goes around our both lakes), visit other places around and also have some niceevenings nearby bonfire in our yard.

LOCATION: Tytuvenai is a small town with ~1700 inhabitants. In summer time there are morepeople, because many are coming to spend their summer vacation here. Municipality center –Kelme – is 18 km. away from Tytuvenai, a famous pilgrim center Šiluva is only 8 km away, Šiaulai,

the 4th biggest city in Lithuania, is 40 km. away. Tytuvenai has 2 lakes, open basketball andvolleyball sites, bicycle/pedestrians sightseeing paths, Tytuvenai pilgrim center and a forestmuseum.

TERMINAL: Kaunas (~120 km away) or Vilnius (~210 km away) airports, Raseiniai (~30 km. away) orŠiauliai (~40 km. away) bus stations. There is a small bus station in Tytuvenai.

WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bags, long-sleeved clothes; trousers (it would be good to check theweather forecast before going then you’ll know what to expect); rain gear; hat, anti-mosquitocream; sunscreen, music instruments (optional); your favorite music; your national games andrecipes; songs; dances; ideas how to spend leisure time; swimming things; waterproof shoes.

CYVA02 INNOVATORS’ VALLEY 27/07-09/08 ENVI VOL 8

PROJECT/WORK. Innovator’s valley is restoring and developing a unique cultural monument – amonastery from the XVIIth century with its park (20 ha), and Kamariskes manor. Step by step weare developing these historical places as social innovation opportunities as well as anenvironmental and non-formal education centre (www.inovatoriuslenis.lt). We need practicaland creative help from young people to develop these unique places as co-working and co-livinghubs in the nature.The project is expected to restore culture objects. The participants will help to renovate thehistorical cultural heritage site in Baroque Carmelite Monastery of Antalieptė, Kamariškės manorand their surroundings. Restoration of culture objects will include cutting by hand and removinggrass and woody vegetation, cleaning areas from the wastes. During restoration in Kamariškėsmanor participants will stay in tents for few days and they will have to cook food on fire. The project is expected to clean up the boating race in Šventoji River as well. Participants will travelwith canoes/SUPboards down the Šventoji River. Cleaning will include cutting by hand naturalobstacles in the river (such as log, dump), and collecting trashes from the water (such us plasticbottles, bags).

ACCOMMODATION/FOOD: Volunteers will live in the ancient monastery building. Volunteers willsleep in the rooms on the beds or mattresses, participants should bring sleeping bags. Thevolunteer will have to share the room with other participants up to 3 in one room. The volunteerwill have to share the bathrooms as well as a fully equipped kitchen with other participants. In theliving area participants will find WI-FI, washing machine, table games, bed sheets, towels andequipment for outdoor activities, all of it free of use. Cooking is done by volunteers themselves inorganization full equipped kitchen.

LEISURE TIME: Free time can be organized independently by the volunteers because there aremany opportunities for visiting interesting places. During the free time volunteers can useorganization bikes, SUPboards, or canoes, and go for biking trip around Regional Park or canoe tripdown Šventoji River, visit self-guided hiking trails. For relaxing a lake 1 km away is the best idea.There are many places for visiting in Zarasai district as well, such as Slyninka water mill, Monasteryin Baltriškės, the oldest oak tree in east Europe (more than 1500 y.o.) and oldest Lithuania’swooden church in Stelmuze.

LOCATION: Antalieptė is a small village with 150 inhabitants in Zarasai municipality district. Thevillage has a good public transportation connection with bigger city Utena and the capital cityVilnius. The village facilities understand first aid service, a library, a culture house, basketball andfootball playgrounds, two local museums, a small sport gym, a local grocery store and a youthcentre. Antalieptė is located Gražutė regional park surrounded by pure nature.

CYVA03 DZUKIJA NATIONAL PARK 07/09-18/09 ENVI VOL 8

PROJECT/WORK: Dzūkija National Park is the largest protectedarea in Lithuania. It is rich in rivers, rivulets andsprings. At the same time it is one of the mostforested protected areas in Lithuania. Most ofits territory is covered by pinewoodsconnecting Lithuania, Poland and Belarus. Thepark encompasses a unique cultural landscape:a mosaic of natural and man-created forests,meadows and ancient villages with traditionalwooden architecture.Čepkeliai reserve is the largest swamp (5858ha) not only in Lithuania but one of the largest

in Central and Western Europe too. Wolves and lynx, black grouse and capercaillie, Cypripediumand Eastern pasque-flower are only a small part of more than 4,000 species found in this region.This project is designed to implement nature restoration activities in the territory of the park: Creating the grouse mating fields in heathlands neat Musteika village; Maintenance of Skerdzimai meadow in Kapiniškiai Landscape Reserve; Creating suitable conditions for protected water birds species in two islands of Nemunas river

nearby Merkinė; Clearing open sandy dunes in Čepkeliai Nature Reserve from sprouts; Maintenance of rare plant collection territory in Liškiava village; Renewing marking and infrastructure of touristic trails in National Park, especially trail of

traditional beekeeping nearby Musteika village.; Cleaning of campsites, belonging to Dzukija National Park from garbage; Maintenance of two cemeteries of the World War I soldiers’ adjacent to Merkinė town;Almost all nature restoration activities are related to keeping and maintaining open habitats ofmeadows and sands, mainly by cutting of sprouts or young trees and transporting them fromhabitats.

ACCOMMODATION/FOOD: Volunteers will live in a house belonging to the park’s directorate inDarželiai village, 7 km from Marcinkonys village (the meeting point). Grūda River suitable forswimming flows nearby. Volunteers will sleep in a barn on double decker beds. Volunteers need tobring their own sleeping bags. There is a shower with hot water, washing basins, WC, food cookerand fridge. Volunteers will cook for themselves, products will be provided.

LEISURE TIME: During their free time volunteers will be able to travel to Musteika village, to visitthe bee-keeping museum and the educational trail. Marcinkonys village offers the ethnographicalexposition, the beautiful hiking path of Zackagiris. Near Darželiai there is the famous Margionysvillage with the origins of Skroblus creek. Volunteers will be able to rent bicycles and travel alongmarked bike trails or rent canoes to navigate Grūda or Ūla rivers.

LOCATION: Marcinkonys - the largest village in Lithuania by territory (143 ha) is 100 km away fromthe capital city Vilnius. Marcinkonys started as a forest scouts’ camping place back in 1637. Around650 people live here today. Marcinkonys hosts one of Dzūkija National Park’s visitor centers. Darželiai village - there the volunteers will be accommodated, is 7 km away.

VOLUNTEERING AT LITHUANIAN LIBRARIES

This project is now fully funded as part of the European Solidarity Corp s – the European Union initiative which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects in their owncountry or abroad that benefit communities and people around Europe. The project is a continued cooperation with some of the best public libraries of Lithuania which started back in 2010.

Siauliai City Municipality Public library is a cultural, educational and informational institutionavailable to every user. It organizes citizens‘ reading and information services. Library staff consistsof 59 library workers, 44 of whom are professional librarians. The library serves 10928 readers.Anually over 196 524 users frequent the library. The stock of 214 528 items is at their service tofulfill information and cultural needs. The library is equipped with 117 computerized workstations.

SIAULIAI POVILAS VISINSKIS LIBRARY

Siauliai County Povilas Visinskis Public Library, the largest public library in Northern Lithuania. The library’s mission is to meet information and cultural needs of the population in the region, to promote the development of the society’s knowledge by creating the environment for life-long learning and personal expression. SCPL is a community center for culture and information, where community members can meet theircultural, social, educational and informational needs, socialize, and spend their free time. The library is actively involved in organizing various activities for cultural, social and digital exclusion reduction of the underprivileged region’s population.

UTENA PUBLIC LIBRARY

Utena library fulfils cultural, information and educational functions. The library was one of the firstlibraries in Lithuania that introduced a centre of public internet access and started computerliteracy courses for citizens. In the year 2002 library was acknowledged as a model library forEastern and Middle Europe countries for it‘s active work in a purpose to become a modern society‘sinformation centre.

ZARASAI PUBLIC LIBRARY

Zarasai public library is a modern, safety, creative and harmonious environment place. The librarygives every citizen an access to main cultural, educational and information services, meets theinformational, cultural, recreational needs of readers. The library involves setting up a space in thepublic library on media technologies for realizing young people’s and families creative ideas.

KLAIPEDA CITY LIBRARY

Klaipeda City Municipality Public library was founded in 1920. Library’s mission is to create modernlibraries close to all Klaipeda citizens and providing all kinds of users with equal opportunities toconveniently use all types of universal information resources for cultural, recreational, self-educational and lifelong learning needs. The library organizes various training activities, excursionsin the library, volunteer activities, new books presentations, lectures, art exhibitions, culturalperformances, after school programs, programs for reader development, etc.

Plungė Municipal Clock Tower Library is the oldest surviving brick-build building in Plungė(completed in 1846). IGNALINA PUBLIC LIBRARY

Ignalina public library is a cultural organization. Its functions are information, cultural and educationevents, taking part at the lifelong learning. There are 2104 consumers at Ignalina public library. Ittakes 40 percent of all Ignalina town inhabitants. The first strategic direction is strengthening publiccultural, information competence and literacy activities which encourages the creativity andmotivation to take part at the lifelong process. During the year the library organized more than 150events: seminars on local history, educations on literature, music, health and Nature themes.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT To provide volunteers with opportunities to acquire new or improve existing competences; Expand the opportunities for non-formal communication of libraries with visitors and the

local community; Strengthen the interest of various social circles and visitors of all ages in library services. Promote solidarity between local and international youth To enhance the possibilities for intercultural cooperation, especially in the small towns of

Lithuania; Foster the interest of local communities in volunteering and volunteer opportunities in

other countries; Expand the understanding of the local community and especially the local youth about the

possibilities of non-formal learning.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIESDuring this project (8-10 months), young people will have the opportunity to express theirsolidarity by taking responsibility and committing themselves to positive changes in localcommunities.Volunteers will work as assistants in the host organizations. Each host organization will assignvolunteers tasks tailored to individual needs. In general, libraries offer a wide range of activities:participation in educational activities for groups of different age (comic book creation, 3D modelingand printing, virtual reality creation, LEGO robot design, programming, creation of augmentedreality apps); support for children with developmental disorders or disabilities; filling andmaintenance of the library’s website; assistance in organizing events and exhibitions; assistance inorganizing creative activities; assistance in the daily tasks of the library (consultation of the library’svisitors, assistance in updating the books, archiving them), organization of camps for children;guided tours, co-operation and joint events with other local (educational) organizations.

ACCMMODATION

Private rooms in rented flats together with other volunteers of the same programme. Services paidby the programme as well as local transportation and a monthly allowance of 210 EUR.

PARTICIPANTS’ PROFILE (ESC PROGRAMME COUNTRIES ONLY)The general background requirements for the participants: volunteers who would cherish andappreciate the opportunity given to them and regard it as a valuable experience to learn andimprove themselves. The volunteers should be able to dedicate their time and effort to thereceiving organizations and their communities. The receiving organizations hope that the futurevolunteers will be active, positive, communicative, ready to help and learn. During the candidateselection attention will be given to how interested future volunteers are in the popular applied ITtools.
