“I love the attitude of teachers and students working together in the classroom.”(Year 12 ASC student)

I know I write on behalf of all ASC staff when I say it has been a joy and a privilege to travel alongside the members of the Class of 2018 to this point in their lives, and to now wish them well as they confidently step forward on their next exciting journey.

We thank and congratulate our graduates for the enthusiastic manner in which they embraced all the opportunities presented to them over the years at ASC, and we know that such an approach will continue to serve them well into the future. We will be following their continued progress with great interest and pride.

Ms Belinda ProvisBA, DipEd, MBA

FROM THE PRINCIPAL“I appreciate the encouragement we get to grow to become the people we can be and want to be, and to build on our strengths and interests.” (Year 12 ASC student)

Recognising the uniqueness of each of our students – their skills and strengths, passions and interests – is key to the inclusive culture of All Saints’ College. This publication – celebrating excellence in achievement across a range of pathways of endeavour – provides a glimpse of that diversity.

“ASC's strength is its ability to cater to such a wide audience of students.” (Year 12 ASC student)

While this publication shines the spotlight on just a small number of our graduating class, we thank our entire Class of 2018 and wish them all well as they now pursue a range of diverse and exciting futures – at tertiary institutions across the nation and world, in the workplace, in their own businesses, in their backpacking expeditions and so on.

LEADING SCHOOL STATUS All Saints’ College also celebrates the breadth of its success, achieving ‘leading school’ status in a range of subjects. (This status is awarded to schools based on the percentage of students whose marks are in the top 15% of all students taking that course.)

In 2018, All Saints’ College achieved ‘leading school’ status in:

• Biology• Computer Science• Dance• Drama• Geography• Integrated Science• Mathematics Applications• Mathematics Methods• Mathematics Specialist• Modern History• Physics• Politics and Law• Psychology

(NB: To be eligible for ‘leading school’ status, schools must have at least ten students enrolled in the course: it is worth noting therefore that in 2018 ASC ran 18 Year 12 courses, including 10 ATAR courses, with fewer than ten students.)

VET ACHIEVEMENTS In addition to a broad curriculum offering of ATAR and General courses, All Saints’ College is proud to ‘broker’ for our students a range of tailor-made Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities, and we celebrate the fact that in 2018 many of our students achieved the following qualifications:

• Certificate II: Outdoor Recreation (Sean Curran); Information Digital Media and Technology (Joel Walkemeyer); Creative Industries (Kate Dickason).

• Certificate III: Agriculture (Byron Blevin), Applied Language (French) (Georgia Balding, Rachelle Dollar, Jasmin Ozolins, Baran Rostamian, Divyansh Sharma, Jacob Smith, Grace Tang, Steven Thiele); Animal Studies (Emily Minchin).

• Certificate IV: Business (Noah Tomich and Finn Williams-Buckenara); Education Support (Sophie Driscoll and Chloe Pedersen); Beauty Therapy (Mackenzie Adams).

We congratulate the many ASC students who achieved these impressive VET qualifications.

We are pleased to provide a snapshot of All Saints’ College students’ diverse experiences, interests and aspirations.

“The College gives you many opportunities to find who you truly are, and guides you through the path.” (ASC student)

A DIVERSE EXPERIENCE Lauren Anderson

I began at All Saints’ College in 2005 as a Kindergarten student, and I feel privileged to be able to say that I have spent all 14 years of my education at such an incredible school.

One thing that I find sets All Saints’ apart is its ability to provide students with a well-rounded experience that allows them to explore different activities and pursuits. In my time at the College, I have been able to take part in numerous trips, such as the New York Arts Tour, Leadership Camp and the Teach Learn Grow trips to Fitzroy Crossing. I have also been involved in various cocurricular activities such as the College Productions and Dance Concerts.

In my last years of schooling I took the ATAR pathway, studying Literature, Mathematics Methods, Physics, Chemistry, and Drama. I chose these subjects in order to keep my options open, as at the time I was unsure of what I wanted to study in the future. I have greatly enjoyed studying these subjects, and I have found that All Saints’ has allowed me to balance my academic and social commitments.

I will always be grateful for being able to have met so many wonderful people during my time at the school, and for having such dedicated and extraordinary teachers. I have grown very close to a number of staff at the College, some of whom I have known since beginning at All Saints’, and I will never forget their guidance and support. ASC is more than a school to me: it is a community that I will most definitely keep in touch with in the future.

Whilst I am uncertain about my future direction, I plan on studying a Bachelor of Commerce, supported by the certainty that All Saints’ has prepared me with the skills and attributes I will need in my life beyond school.

I have been a student at All Saints’ for 12 years, starting when I was in Year 1.

From the very beginning I’ve loved the rich diversity and range of opportunities that have been offered to me as a student. Whether it be debating, basketball, swimming or the ability to develop my academic skills in the classroom, All Saints’ has always been a place that treats my goals and interests with significance, whatever they may be.

Much of this is due to the help of the staff at the College. ASC staff listen with attentiveness and respect which, for me at least, has cultivated a relationship where I truly feel that many of the teachers are like friends who have my best interests at heart. This has been especially helpful for me in the ATAR pathway, where the positive connections I had with my teachers helped create a more efficient and engaging learning environment that greatly benefitted my love for my subjects.

For Year 12 I chose Physics, Mathematics Methods, Politics and Law, Chemistry and English. Although challenging, these subjects were incredibly rewarding, and the skills I have learnt will help immensely in my tertiary studies.

I plan to study Mechatronic Engineering and Computer Science in 2019, and I have full faith that the problem-solving and critical-thinking skills I learnt in Years 11 and 12 will prove useful in such future challenges.

I look forward to staying in touch with the College community as much as possible. The College has a way of teaching new and unique skills and ideas, so I plan to stick around and continue to learn from − and give back to − such a fantastic and encouraging community!

The All Saints’ experience began for me in 2013 as a Year 7 student.

It took me a while to settle in, having started my schooling at a small primary school. Growing up on a small farm in Serpentine nurtured my almost instinctive interest in the outdoors, the country and agriculture in general. I began to develop my agricultural skills further with a chicken egg business, oaten hay trading and then my own flock of sheep. On weekends I worked on my grandparents’ Red Angus cattle stud and in September each year helped them show their stud cattle at the Perth Royal Show.

All Saints’ College not only accepted this passion but embraced it. In Year 10, in addition to my standard classes, I was provided with the opportunity to study a Certificate II in Rural Operations. This meant that I spent every Tuesday working on a dairy farm in Oldbury and gathered even more experience.

In Years 11 and 12 I studied the General pathway, taking English, Mathematics Essentials, Integrated Science, Physical Education Studies, and Materials Design and Technology. Doing the General pathway allowed me to continue my Agricultural Studies and complete a Certificate III in Agriculture. Studying for a Certificate III at a non-agricultural school had its challenges, but All Saints’ College went out of its way, persevering to enable my dreams to become a reality. The efforts of the teachers involved were incredible and I remain extremely thankful for their dedication.

This year I hope to study for an Associate Degree in Agribusiness at Muresk’s rural campus in Northam through Curtin University.

My time at ASC has given me the best grounding on which to build my future, for which I am grateful, and I am now looking forward to further studies and a successful and enjoyable career in Agriculture. I also look forward to catching up with the All Saints’ community into the future: I have formed some lifelong bonds with my network of fellow students and teachers.

Joanne Luo

I can vividly remember the beginning of my All Saints’ journey on the first day of Year 7: not knowing what to expect, but having plenty of nervous excitement. And what an amazing and fulfilling six years it’s been since then − an enriching experience in so many ways.

All Saints’ has taught me so much more than just algebra, the laws of physics and how to choreograph a dance. I’ve learned to value service, leadership and reflection alongside academia, and have come away with invaluable personal and life skills. The College has offered a diverse range of opportunities; my personal highlights include the Teach Learn Grow program, Dance and Music Concerts and interhouse events. I feel so privileged and immensely appreciative of all these opportunities, and of the lasting relationships I’ve built with peers and staff.

I’m extremely grateful both for our cohort and the College staff who provided guidance, motivation and inspiration as well as plenty of well-timed laughter. The teachers at the College have offered endless support and encouragement, whether it be in the classroom, cocurricular interests or wider community. I am truly thankful for their dedication and wisdom.

During my final years at the College I studied Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist, Physics, Chemistry, Politics and Law, and Literature. My subject choices were based on personal interest and kept my options open for educational pursuits beyond school. I am very excited to have recently accepted a place at The University of Western Australia this year studying a Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons), with a double major in Medical Sciences and Mathematics and Statistics, and a direct entry to a Doctor of Medicine.

I look forward to further developing values the College has encouraged, particularly with service and community involvement, and will make sure to stay in touch with the College community. I’m excited to see what the future holds and will always glance back to my time at All Saints’ with so much gratitude and fondness.

Jenna Fuller

In early 2013 I first stepped into my Year 7 classroom, extremely shy and anxious, never wanting to bring attention to myself or try anything new. However, this all changed over my six-year journey at All Saints’. Now I can securely say that I have grown to become a confident young adult, who is willing to give things a go.

At All Saints’, there are activities for everybody. For me, more academic than athletic, I found my place in debating, through which I learnt many important skills, such as how to prepare a structured argument and how to become more confident. So many of the opportunities available at All Saints’ have been life-changing, such as going to France on exchange, and speaking at Assembly. These experiences I will never forget, and I am extremely grateful for the chance to learn and grow as an individual through them.

My relationship with the teachers and staff has been incredible. I remain in contact with my teachers from Year 7 to Year 12, and I am going to miss walking across The Common and having conversations with staff on the way to classes. I have built such strong relationships with many of my teachers, and I will always appreciate how much time and effort they put in to helping everybody reach their full potential.

In my final year at All Saints’ I studied five ATAR subjects: Literature, Mathematics Methods, Psychology, Physics and Modern History. My favourite subjects were Psychology and History, as they fully captured my interest in how the world and people work. This year I hope to go to university and study Psychology, and then study Neuropsychology as a post-graduate. I would eventually like to progress into academia to research perception and consciousness.

If there is one thing I can be sure about in the uncertainty of my future, it is that I will always remain extremely grateful for the relationships I have formed at All Saints’ and the opportunities I have had to grow into who I am today. I will definitely remain in touch with the All Saints’ College community, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!

Eliane Smith

I began at All Saints’ in 2006, instantly loving the warm, inviting vibe of Pre-Primary. The memories of Junior School are full of encouragement and numerous opportunities, assisting me through the transition into Senior School in 2013.

Senior School at All Saints’ provided me with cocorricular and service opportunities, allowing me to volunteer time and energy, giving back to the College and community. Standouts for me include the ‘Anglicare Ambassadors’ program, House activities and the ‘One World WonTok’ conferences.

Along with these service programs, All Saints’ has given me numerous opportunities to take part in school trips, the New York Dance Tour, Teach Learn Grow and the Texas Rotary Exchange being just three of the incredible expeditions I’ve had the privilege to participate in, allowing me to push the boundaries of my learning and explore future pathways.

In Year 12 I studied five ATAR subjects: Politics and Law, Psychology, Mathematics Applications, Dance and English. I completed a Certificate II in Hospitality in Year 11 and completed a Certificate III, with the help of Ms Itzstein, in Year 12.

During my final year I was diagnosed with two viral infections that made the final six months of Year 12 unbelievably difficult. I was then hospitalised with suspected appendicitis and went into surgery where doctors found a large cyst which ruptured during surgery. I spent a week in hospital recovering, unable to prepare for the exams.

Because of these health issues, I applied for Illness and Misadventure considerations through the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, in the hope of being awarded an ATAR score based on my previous performance in Semester 1.

Prior to getting sick, I had secured early offers at Bond University in Gold Coast, studying Law and International Relations, and was finalised for a scholarship to pay 100% of the fees. However, this now seemed unlikely due to my current health issues. I knew Law was ordinarily a difficult course to get into, let alone without an ATAR. However, Ms Hill and

Ms Aguiar helped me contact Perth universities in the hope of attending university in 2019 and studying the course of my choice.

I have since been offered a place in Politics and Journalism at Notre Dame, with the option to transfer into Law after my first year. In addition to this, Murdoch University has invited me into a program called Law Start, giving me the opportunity to study Law and Arts in 2019, both opportunities not requiring an ATAR due to my Semester 1 scores being of a good enough standard.

Both options are incredible opportunities, and I’m grateful for the help throughout this process. My teachers have been so supportive through these six months, emailing me work I missed, excusing me from assessments and being available to chat when things were looking down. I can’t thank them enough for their never-ending help in my final year.

I have decided to accept the offer at Murdoch for 2019, studying a double degree of Law and Arts (Global Policies and Politics), and I’m extremely excited to start a new chapter. No matter what happens this year I feel confident that All Saints’ has provided me with the necessary tools to succeed in any environment, even after missing half of my final year. All Saints’ will always hold a special place in my life.

Aron Thian

My journey at All Saints’ College began in Pre-Primary, but was cut off when I moved away from Australia for a few years. I could not have been more delighted to return to All Saints’ College in Year 10 where I would complete the final years of my schooling.

Having moved across several countries and even more schools, I speak from experience when I say that it is often hard to move schools, leaving friends behind and making new friends again. The unique culture at All Saints’ was a delightful surprise and everyone welcomed me with open arms.

Though the final few years of school tend to be more stressful, my final three years in ASC were also filled with experiences and memories that will stay with me for a lifetime.

I owe many thanks to my teachers and the ASC staff who were always there for me to support me and help me in whatever goals I pursued, or problems I faced. Everything I was able to achieve would not have been possible without their dedicated support.

In Year 10 I studied Year 11 Chemistry and Year 11 Mathematics Methods and then, in Year 11, I studied Year 12 Chemistry, Year 12 Methods, Year 11 Politics and Law, Year 11 Mathematics Specialist and Year 11 Physics. In my final year, I studied Year 12 Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist, Literature, Politics and Law, and Physics.

Beyond Year 12 I hope to pursue a career in medical research and medicine, combining that with my interest in computer and programming.

I intend to remain connected with the Old Saints and the community that helped me grow and forge lasting memories. All Saints’ College will always be remembered fondly as not only the school where I received much of my education, but also the community where I grew as a person and learnt who I am.

Steven Thiele

I first joined All Saints’ College in 2005 as a Kindergarten student and, on reflection, it was one of the best decisions my parents made, as the experiences I have had in both Junior and Senior Schools have been invaluable and the memories will last a long time.

During my time at the College I have had the opportunity to participate in opportunities such as Music groups, interhouse sport, debating and service opportunities. These have allowed me to maintain a balance that was vital in Year 12. I have also had the opportunity to expand my horizons through programs such as the Teach Learn Grow trip to Fitzroy Crossing and the French Exchange to Nice.

The staff at ASC have all been engaging and friendly. Their support is extraordinary and I would have been completely lost without them. In particular, I have enjoyed the close relationships with teachers whose classes I have had the privilege to be in for multiple years, and the camaraderie that comes with that.

In my final year at the College I took an ATAR pathway, studying English, Chemistry, Politics and Law, Modern History and French. As part of my French studies I was able to obtain a Certificate III in a foreign language.

Pending ATAR results, I intend to study a double degree in Law and Arts at Murdoch University, while working on my writing with a view to being published in the next few years.

I am looking forward to maintaining contact with the wonderful ASC community through the Old Saints, and will always be thankful for the breadth of opportunities made available to me at the College.

Noah Tomich

I joined All Saints’ College midway through Year 8 in 2014 after returning from Singapore. It was a pretty tough time, trying to find my feet and make new friends at the age of 13, but what I didn’t know then was how much All Saints’ would mean to me and the strong friendships I would make.

My earliest memory of the College is of Ms Provis who would always find me and try and make me feel welcome into the All Saints’ community. This never changed through the years. Another teacher who has influenced me is Mrs Dollar who has always encouraged me to do my best and work to my fullest potential.

All Saints’ has always been so accommodating and encouraging of my passions and ideas, and becoming Functions Captain was a highlight of my final year. Organising and styling the Year 12 Ball into a modern and classy event was very rewarding for me and fell in line with my Certificate III in Events. I particularly have enjoyed Woodworking and Propeller Industries where I was able to make many items, including the invitations and keepsakes for the Year 12 Ball.

Choosing the General pathway enabled me to complete two Certificates (Certificate III Event Management, Certificate IV in Business) delivered by separate RTOs, receive a number of academic awards and, most importantly, receive two job offers that have arisen because of the qualifications I have gained in the past two years. One was a future leadership position at my current workplace, which I have accepted, and it begins this year as full-time employment from January. In 2019 I plan to do some travelling with friends I have made at the College, and also stay in touch with All Saints’ through the events they offer to all alumni.

I feel that it is important for students to choose subjects and pathways that interest them and their needs. I hope that my experience will encourage other students to follow the General pathway, as it has given me two years of workplace experience, two Certificates and a fulltime job lined up for me after graduation.

Evelyn Younge

I first joined All Saints’ College in Year 7. I remember feeling nervous and excited to be joining a school so large and with so many academic and cocurricular opportunities. Within a year I had settled into College life and loved it.

I was very sad to leave towards the end of Year 8 but, for Years 9 and 10 I was living in Spain. In Year 11 I returned to All Saints’ and, although I had been at the College before, it was still an adjustment for me. I will always feel very grateful for the College staff and students whose support made my transition easier. I am very thankful to have been part of the All Saints’ community and, now, the Old Saints’ community.

I have always had a curiosity and passion for scientific endeavour which I hope to pursue in my future career, and in my final year at ASC my subjects were Mathematics Methods, Literature, Spanish, Chemistry, Physics and Human Biology.

The dedication and generosity of All Saints’ College staff is something that I will remember most about the College. Changing curriculums left me with gaps and, if it weren’t for my teachers, I don’t believe I could have achieved my goals. The student-teacher relationships I developed over the last two years heavily influenced my university preferences and course choices.

All Saints’ made me want to be the best version of myself. All Saints’ made me more confident as an individual, always asking questions and persisting with things that are difficult.

In 2019, I plan to defer my university placement to second semester so that I can travel to England, Spain and Germany. During my time in Spain I will be completing a Spanish immersion course in three different cities. It is my dream to read Spanish literature, including One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez.

All Saints’ College has inspired me to always look for a greater learning experience and opportunity in all aspects of life, including travel.
