Thursday, September 01 DAY 1: DEPART THE U.S.A.—Depart this evening on an overnight flight from Albuquerque and other airports to Rome.

Friday, September 02 DAY 2: ROME WELCOME TO ROMEWelcome to the Eternal City where we are greeted by Select International Tours’ group manager and transferred to Rome. Our first stop is at the Basilica of St. Paul outside the walls for Mass and a prayer of thanks for our safe journey. We see where St. Paul is buried and the crucifix which spoke to St. Bridget of Sweden. We also walk through the Holy Doors, the first of the four doors we will walk through during our pilgrimage. We visit Tre Fontane where St. Paul was be-headed. Rest of the afternoon is at leisure to become acclimated to a new time zone. Dinner is at our hotel. Overnight in Rome. (D.)

Saturday, September 03 DAY 3: ROME – ST. PETER’S BASILICA –DIVINE MERCY – WALKING THROUGH THE HOLY DOORSEarly this morning we are transferred to the Vatican for a visit of St. Peter’s Basilica. We pray at the tombs of St. John Paul II and St. John XXIII, and walk through the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. Our visit includes a tour of St. Peter’s Basilica. Following lunch on your own, we have a tour of Christian Rome, including walking through the two re-maining Holy Doors at the Basilicas of Sts. Mary Major and John Lateran. Sunday, September 04 DAY 4: CELEBRATE THE CANONIZATION OF BLESSED TERESA OF KOLKATA AND JUBILEE FOR WORKERS ANDVOLUNTEERS OF MERCYWe return to St. Peter’s Square to wit-ness Pope Francis celebrate the Mass of Canonization of Blessed Teresa of Kolkata. Mother Teresa was widely known as a living saint as she ministered to the sick and the dying in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the world. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. The

date chosen for her canonization is the eve of the 19th anniversary of her death and the date previously established at the Vatican for the conclusion of the Year of Mercy pilgrimage of people like her who are engaged in works of mercy. We visit the Sant’ Egidio community to learn about their work with the poor. In the afternoon enjoy a walking city tour including a look at the ancient ruins of the Coliseum (out-side view), the famous Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon. During our tour we visit the Sant’ Agostino Church where St. Monica’s relics are preserved. The church is aptly named after her son, Saint Augustine. Despite the rather plain exterior, the interior of the church is mag-nificent with several great works of art by artists such as Rafael and Carvaggio. We also visit the Church of St. Clemente. Then we enjoy Piazza Navone, one of the most beautiful piazzas in Rome, where you may wish to stay on your own, explore and have a meal in one of the many restaurants in the area. Overnight in Rome. (B)

Monday, September 05 DAY 5: FEAST DAY OF BLESSED TERESA OF KOLKATAMass this morning, celebrating the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Kolkata. Rest of the day is at leisure to explore the Vatican Museum or Borghese Gardens or Piazza del Campo to experience the magnificent food market. The day is yours to experience the Eternal City as you wish. Overnight in Rome. (B.)

Tuesday, September 06 DAY 6: ASSISI (St. Francis & St. Clare)Depart for Assisi, early this morning (8AM). Following Mass at the church of Santa Ma-ria Degli Angeli, we see the famous Porzi-uncola, the chapel where St. Francis con-secrated St. Clare. We will visit the convent of San Damiano, where tradition tells us St. Francis received God’s message to rebuild His Church. Explore St. Francis Basilica and the tomb of the Saint before walking across town for a visit of the Basilica of St. Clare. Overnight in Assisi. (B.D.)

Greetings in this Year of Mercy!

We have been blessed by Pope Francis announcing a Jubilee Year of Mercy Dec. 8, 2015 to Nov. 20, 2016. Many of our saints, of course, have lived this virtue, offering loving kindness and compassion to all.

I hope that you can join me on a special pilgrimage with the Catholic Press Associ-ation to Italy Sept. 1-12, 2016. We will visit Rome, Assisi, Cascia, Loreto, San Giovanni and several other sites associated with saints whose lives are examples of mercy.

During the pilgrimage, we will have the opportunity to reflect on God’s mercy in our lives and for our world. We will be able to pray with both ancient and new religious communities that daily practice the corpo-ral works of mercy, such as the community of Sant’ Egidio.

We will partake in the Church’s ancient tradition of walking through designated Holy Doors in Rome and celebrate the feast day of Blessed Teresa of Kolkata, and witness her canonization!

Due to previous commitments, I will be joining you after the Rome segment of the pilgrimage. One of my favorite places on the tour is Assisi, the home of St. Francis, patron saint of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Of course, we will also reflect on God’s great gift of creation, as we enjoy the beau-ty of the Italian countryside and the warm Italian hospitality.

Through all of this, I believe each of us will grow in our appreciation of God’s love and mercy, and realize more deeply our person-al call to kindness and faithfulness.

I hope you can join me on this pilgrimage of gratitude for God’s mercy!

Wednesday, September 07 DAY 7: ASSISI–CASCIA (St. Rita)–LORETOAfter breakfast we depart for Cascia, where we celebrate Mass and visit the Shrine of St. Rita, a devoted wife and mother who later became an Augustinian nun. We travel to Lore-to to participate in the procession in honor of Our Lady of Loreto celebrated on Sep-tember 08. Overnight in Loreto. ( B.D.)

Thursday, September 08 DAY 8: LORETO–LANCIANO (Holy House of Nazareth and Our Lady of Mercy)Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Lore-to. We visit Loreto and celebrate Mass at the Shrine. See the Holy House of Naza-reth, which tradition tells us, was the Virgin Mary’s home in the Holy Land. Pope Ben-edict XVI visited the Shrine in 2012 and formally entrusted the Year of Faith to the Virgin of Loreto. Following time for lunch, we continue to Lanciano where we celebrate Mass. The Church of St. Francis (1258) and built over a pre-existing seventh-century church, holds one of the oldest Eucharistic miracles. This is also a pilgrimage place to Our Lady of Mercy. We continue to the Basilica of Our Lady of Graces and Saint Maria Goretti Shrine located in Nettuno. See the reliquary that contains the saint’s body in the Basilica and the farmhouse where she was murdered (the kitchen is now a chapel), as well as the room in which she lived. Mass will be cele-brated at the Shrine. Tonight enjoy a fare-well dinner with wine in a local restaurant in the magnificent wine region of Frascati. Overnight in Frascati. (B. Special dinner)
