Second Vatican Council

“The forthcoming Council, then, will meet happily and at a moment in which the Church has a more lively desire to fortify her faith and to contemplate herself in her own awe-inspiring unity, just as she feels the more urgent duty to give greater effectiveness to her healthy vitality and to promote the sanctification of her members, the spread of revealed truth, and the consolidation of her structures” (Humanae Salutis, 7).

John XXIII and Reviving Faith “Profession of the Christian faith is not intelligible

without strong, lively apostolic fervor; in fact, ‘everyone is bound to proclaim his faith to others, either to give good example and encouragement to the rest of the faithful, or to check the attacks of unbelievers,’ especially in our time, when the universal Church and human society are beset by many difficulties” (Princeps Pastorum, 32).

John Paul II and Reviving Faith“In the wake of the Second Vatican Council, at the beginning of my pastoral ministry, my aim was to emphasize forcefully the priestly, prophetic and kingly dignity of the entire People of God in the following words: ‘He who was born of the Virgin Mary, the carpenter's Son - as he was thought to be - Son of the living God (confessed by Peter), has come to make us “a kingdom of priests” The Second Vatican Council has reminded us of the mystery of this power and of the fact that the mission of Christ -Priest, Prophet-Teacher, King-continues in the Church. Everyone, the whole People of God, shares in this threefold mission’” (Christifideles Laici, 14).
