i. Introduction

i.1 Purpose This manual contains information and procedures for the installation, integration, operation, and maintenance of CCI Antenna RET Systems. This guide was created to provide a detailed outline of the process for Checking, Upgrading and Troubleshooting CCI Antenna RET motors. Should you encounter issues at the time of installation or network integration, a review of this guide may be used as a form of “Sanity Check” to ensure the motors currently installed in the antenna are up to the current IOT approved Firmware and Antenna Configuration Files. Additionally, this guide provides reference materials to more easily identify potential issues if the Antenna and associated RETs were connected to the network PRIOR to being upgraded to the IOT approved updates and subsequently became non-responsive or unidentifiable. If you encounter differences between the outlined process screen shots and the information presented by an approved controller – you are encouraged to contact CCI Technical Support for further assistance.

ii. Advisories

ii.1 Changing or “Swapping” of Antenna RET Motors Please be advised that every RET motor which accompanies a CCI Antenna has been uploaded at the factory with the appropriate Antenna Configuration file for that Specific Antenna Model and for the Specific Actuator (Antenna Element) to which it is attached to. Swapping of Antenna RET Motors between different Antenna Models OR Between High and Low Designated ports OR Between Left and Right sides in BSA (Bi-Sector Array) models as well as other models MAY result in RET Jams or other network errors related to RET operation. These errors may present themselves as (but are not limited to): RET “Jams”, RET “Module Scenario Alarm”, or “Overcurrent Alarm”. Customers, as well as their installation teams, are strongly encouraged to confirm the RET information (listed in this guide) against the actual Antenna Model and RET position within the specific Antenna (e.g.: Low Band/High Band/Right Beam/Left Beam) prior to connection to the network infrastructure as part of their Standard Installation and Pre-Commissioning procedures. In the event that a discrepancy is found, the installer / technician should upload the appropriate Antenna Configuration File associated with the subject RET Motor by following the instructions in this document.

ii.2 Addressing RET “Jams” In the event of a RET “Jam” condition the following steps should be followed to quantify the type of RET “Jam” encountered PRIOR to taking further action(s):

Prior to quantifying a RET Jam condition – use of the correct Antenna Config File MUST be validated first Attempt to perform a “Calibration” on the RET motor using a Portable SCU (such as CCI’s P-SCU)

If SCU reports a “JAM” condition or becomes unresponsive for an extended period of time o Disconnect the AISG cable from the RET o Remove the RET from the Antenna o Attempt to move the actual Antenna Actuator (this can be done with the keyed peg)

If the Antenna Actuator does NOT move freely – the actual internal actuator may be damaged – The Antenna Itself will need to be replaced and generate an RMA for the complete Antenna (with its motors)

If the Antenna Actuator moves freely (only turns approx. ¼ turn in each direction from center) the Antenna is unlikely the cause of the RET Jam Condition - Note finding and continue to the next step

Reconnect the RET Controller and AISG cable to the RET in question o Re-Scan for the RET Motor and perform the “Calibration” function again inspect the motor’s “key” hole on the

underside of the unit for movement If the motor moves freely without “grinding” or excessive “noises” AND the SCU shows a successful

calibration notice - the motor should be considered operational o If movement appears labored or very little or no movement is noted – attempt to set tilt to the minimum setting

and again to the maximum setting to inspect movement further If the motor moves freely without “grinding” or excessive “noises” AND the SCU does not report an

issue or become unresponsive – the motor should be considered operational o In the event that all attempts to adjust Tilt value or Perform a “Calibration” Fails to complete or results in a

“grinding” or excessive “noise” condition The RET Motor should be deemed Non-Operational and Tagged as such Generate an RMA for the Failed Motor (NOT the Antenna itself)

Reattach the Motor to the Antenna and attempt to perform a calibration again – If further issues persist – contact CCI

Technical Support for assistance

50-0000XX-01-01 13

1.5.2 Updating the Antenna Configuration File CCI antennas share the same physical RET actuators. The Antenna Configuration file essentially “tells” the RET which antenna type it is controlling. It also tells the RET whether it is controlling a high band column or a low band column (or in the case of Bi-Sector Array antennas, a left beam or a right beam). It also defines that tilt range which may be different on high band versus low band on some antennas). NOTE: Upon upgrading the firmware, CCI recommends that the Antenna Configuration file be updated in order to achieve proper operation of the RET Actuators with the associated Antenna.

1.5.2.1 Download Antenna Config (Configuration) Files from cciproducts.com CCI website (www.cciproducts.com) provides the applicable Antenna Config files in the ‘Resources’ tab of every antenna. Simply search for the model number of the antenna, then clock on the ‘Resources’ tab. You will see a listing of the applicable Antenna Config files for that antenna. See figure 1.15 below for an example of the Antenna Config files associated with the OPA-65R-LCUU-H6 Antenna. Note that there are three (3) files associated with this antenna as follows: 1) RET Control of the “L” (698 – 787 MHz) ports; 2) RET Control of the “C” (824 – 894 MHz) ports; and 3) RET Control of the “left facing” and “right facing” “U” (1710 – 2360 MHz) ports. There are also brief instructions (available directly on the website as a window in a new tab) as well as a copy of this document available as a pdf file (shown in figure 1.15). Note that in a few cases there may be more than one low band or high band associated with a given antenna. Be certain that you are selecting the correct Antenna Config file. If you cannot locate your antenna model or find the Antenna Config files, contact CCI Technical Support. Download/Save the Config .bin file (containing the latest appropriate Antenna Configuration file) to your PC or laptop. Be sure to save the .bin file in a location you can find when ready to upload the appropriate Config file to the Site Control Unit (SCU).

50-0000XX-01-01 14

1.5.2.1 Download Antenna Config (Configuration) Files from cciproducts.com (Cont.) Finally note that the Antenna Config files may have either “H” or “Y” in the filename. The “H” Antenna Config files are for use with BSA-RET200 (Product Number SA-DC0201 and SA-DC0301 RET Actuators), while the “Y” Antenna Config files are for use with BSA-RET400 (Product Number SA-DC0401 RET Actuators). The SA-DC0401 RET Actuators can be found on iRET Antennas at present. Figure 1.16 (see below) shows an example for the HPA-65R-BUU-H6 (Standard RET) antenna, where both types of Antenna Config files are listed.

Figure 1.16 - Antenna Config Files for “H” and “Y” RET Actuators (HPA-65R-BUU-H6)

50-0000XX-01-01 15

1.5.2.2 Determine the correct Config file Antenna Config files are antenna specific as well as band specific. There is a different Antenna Config file for the RET that controls the low-band column versus the RET that controls the high-band column of an Antenna. Note that in a few cases there may be more than one low band or high band associated with a given antenna. Be certain that you are selecting the correct Antenna Config file. CCI’s website provides a RET Connection Diagram in the “Specifications” tab of every antenna to help you identify the band of the RET based on its physical location on the antenna. Select the appropriate Antenna Config File to be downloaded to the RET. Connect the SCU-AISG2-P and open the application on your PC. Go to “Tools” in the Menu and open the Antenna Model Management Window by clicking on “Antenna Model Management” in the Menu (see figure 1.17).

Figure 1.17 – Antenna Model Management in RET Tab

1.5.2.3 Select Vendor “Communication Components” In the Antenna Model Management window select the pull-down arrow to show Antenna Vendors available. Select Communication Components as shown in figure 1.18 below. Once Communication Components is selected, this will fill the window with the presently available CCI Antenna Models (see figure 1.21).

1.5.2.11 Save Selected Depress the Save Selected button as seen in figure 1.36. This process will only change the information in the check box or check boxes which were selected. If no box was “checked”, then no information will be changed. A Save Device Data “Are you sure you want to change ANTENNA MODEL?” Warning Pop-up Window will then appear as seen in figure 1.37. Click OK, and a Save Device Data “Process is Finished” window will open as seen in figure 1.38 below. Click the “OK” button on the Save Device Data “Process is Finished” window and then a Request to Verify Antenna Details window (shown in figure 1.39) will appear. Click “OK” in the Request to Verify Antenna Details window, and the updated Antenna Data (including Frequency Band, Beam Width and Antenna Gain) will populate the RET Detail Window shown in figure 1.40. Note that the Antenna Serial Number presently contains information for the BSA-M65-17R010-02 Antenna’s RET Actuator which controls the “Low Band Left Facing” ports which were originally populated in the RET Tab and RET Details. As this RET Actuator is now being utilized for the CCI Hexport Antenna Low Band ports (which are not left facing or right facing), this Antenna Serial Number information must be changed. Therefore the Antenna Serial Number must be changed from: 25-4610-00000000L (where the “L” references the “Left Facing RET Actuator” on the BSA-M65-17R010-02 antenna (and the Low Band is referenced in the Antenna Model itself)), to: 25-4610-00000000B (where the “B” references the Low Band RET Actuator on the HPA65-H8-B-02 Hexport Antenna). Be sure to select the Antenna Serial No. by placing a “check mark” at “Antenna Serial No.”.

1.5.2.12 Perform Select Antenna Model and Save Selected for Antennas with Dual (or Multi) Bands and with Multiple RET Actuators Repeat Steps 1.5.2.10 and 1.5.2.11 for Antennas with Multiple Bands and/or Multiple RET Actuators, until all RET Actuators have been properly assigned with the correct Antenna Model Information. See figure 1.41 thru figure 1.47 for change of Antenna Model to HPA65-H8-U-02 (High Band). Note that in this example (for CCI’s Hexport Antennas) the High Band has both “Left Facing” and “Right Facing” ports. Therefore the Antenna Serial Number needs to be changed to include whether the RET being utilized is for the Left Facing or the Right Facing ports. The Antenna Serial Number presently contains information for the BSA-M65-17R010-02 Antenna’s RET Actuator which controls the “Low Band Left Facing” ports which were originally populated in the RET Tab and RET Details. As the RET Actuator is now being utilized for the CCI Hexport Antenna High Band ports this Antenna Serial Number information must be changed. Therefore the Antenna Serial Number must be changed from: 25-4610-00000000L (where the “L” references the “Left Facing RET Actuator” on the BSA-M65-17R010-02 antenna (and the Low Band is referenced in the Antenna Model itself)), to: 25-4610-0000000LU (where the “U” references the High Band RET Actuator for the “Left Facing” ports on the HPA65-H8-B-02 Hexport Antenna) as shown in figures 1.37 and 1.38. Or change the Antenna Serial No. to: 25-4610-0000000RU (where the “U” references the High Band RET Actuator for the “Right Facing” ports on the HPA65-H8-B-02 Hexport Antenna). Be sure to select the Antenna Serial No. by placing a “check mark” at “Antenna Serial No.”
