What knowledge do “we” (teachers, school board pedagogical consultants, and educational researchers) need in order to improve students’ understanding, and integrate digital tools meaningfully into this practice shift?
How can we engage in the most promising professional development experiences to achieve the above practice shift in a sustainable way?
How can we use student-learning data to monitor progress and adapt practice toward the goal of developing digital literacy and disciplinary understanding?
Research Questions
a) Foster a community of practice in mathematics teaching and digital tools
b) Develop collective understandings of the situation with regards to student success in mathematics
c) Develop practice in terms of using digital tools for teachers and for students
d) Engage in sustaining sharing, reflection, and inquiry activities
e) Consolidate a long-term partnership between RSB and McGill
Objectives for Year 1 (2013-2014)
a) Face-to-face meetings (5 times/year)

b) On-line activities on Edmodo
c) Classroom visits and interviews
d) Wrap-up, Celebration, Planning next year (May F2F meeting)
Key Activities for Year 1 (2013-2014)
a) Develop and test solutions based on collective understandings of the situation
I. Design and implement video-based lesson studies
II. Develop practice of using digital tools for teaching and learning math
III. Facilitate reflection and inquiry as well as sharing
b) Continue the professional learning network in mathematics teaching and digital tools
c) Consolidate a long-term partnership between RSB and McGill
