All Welcome
This week at
Coleambally Central School
Welcome back to the first week of Term 3, I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and has returned ready for another exciting term! This term students in Year 12 will commence their last term of studies before their final HSC examinations. Good luck to you all! During the holidays the Australian National University in Canberra (ANU) announced the recipients of the 2018 Tuckwell Scholarship. As part of the scholarship program, scholars receive a wide range of financial, academic and emotional support from the Fellows, peers and the staff of the program, supporting their time at university and producing experienced and inspired graduates. From nearly 800 applications a small number of students were invited to progress to interview in Canberra on 7-9 July, with Ryan Mannes selected to attend. Following two days of interviews, the Selection Panel selected the final 25 students who will commence studying at ANU in February 2018 and Ryan was announced as one of the successful applicants. This is an outstanding achievement for Ryan and demonstrates what study, effort, commitment and initiative can achieve. Well done Ryan and we wish you all the best! School Timetable This term a small change to the secondary timetable will take place to allow DEAR to be lengthened to 20 minutes each day. This has been instigated to allow for the implementation of a project aimed at improving the reading comprehension of Year 7 and Year 8 students as part of our commitment to a regional High Impact Leadership Project through a peer teaching strategy known as reciprocal teaching, an instructional activity in which students become the teacher in small group reading sessions. Teacher’s model then help students learn to guide group discussions using four strategies: summarising, questioning, clarifying, and predicting. Education Week Education Week 2017 will be held in Week 3, from Monday 31 July to Friday 4 August. Education Week is a state-wide, annual event to celebrate public education in NSW and highlights the achievements of public education and Coleambally Central School, putting the spotlight on our students, our educators and the communities that support them. This year's theme is 'I Learn, We Learn', celebrating personalised student learning as the foundation of public education in NSW. Organisation for Education Week will be provided in next week’s news-letter.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to our new finance system. P & C News On Sunday the P & C catered for Round 4 of the Riverina Interclub Challenge Wanabrook Motocross Series at the Coleambally track. Sharon Breed put an enormous effort into organising the catering and was assisted by a willing band of helpers who started very early in the morning cooking breakfast for competitors and then worked through the day.
