DESCRIPTION

According the Department of Energy’s 2010 Buildings Energy Data Book, the average commercial building in the United States consumes $.70 of electricity per square foot in lighting costs annually. Meanwhile, 13 percent of commercial buildings in the United States are between 25,000 and 50,000 square feet. So by the math, for a typical 35,000- square foot building, lighting costs would be $24,500 annually. This annual lighting cost is for the average building, however in other applications, energy consumption for lighting is far higher. Are there any real solutions??? Just have a look at the brief research work from CBM We will look forward to hear back your thoughts Regards Ben Taddeo Executive Vice President at CBM Corp. [email protected]

Are the

Increasing Costs in Electricity DENTING your Bottom line?

Solutions!What can

be done

Page 3: CBM Energy Study

- Lighting can account for up to 50% of

your monthly electric bill

- The type of light you choose has DIRECT

IMPACT on the PRODUCTIVITY of

employee.

- It has become a trend for commercial and

residential buildings to become more

energy efficient as it saves energy and

money.

Page 4: CBM Energy Study

- In 2012, New York governor Andrew Cuomo issued

an executive order directing state agencies to improve

the efficiency of their buildings by 20% by 2020.

- By 2014, Incandescent bulbs will be ILLEGAL

“Through Build Smart NY, state government can produce significant savings for

New York taxpayers and generate thousands of jobs, while reducing greenhouse

gas emissions by more than eight million metric tons, which is the same as taking

one million cars off the road for one year.”

Government’s Role in Energy efficiency

Lighting Options

Page 7: CBM Energy Study

Incandescent Lighting

Advantages Very cheap bulbs- only

about $1.25 per bulb Turns on instantly

Disadvantages Short lifespan- only last

about 1,200 hours (about 3 months at 10 hours a day)

Emit a lot of heat Very dull light Use a lot of electricity to

light small area

Fluorescent Lighting

Advantages Cheap- about $4 per

bulb Brighter than

incandescent Last 10x as long as

incandescent bulbs

Disadvantages Emit a lot of heat Only last 8,000 hours Contain Mercury Delayed start-up Frequent on/off cycling

will shorten lifespan

Page 9: CBM Energy Study

- Comes with a 3 year warranty

- Light comes on instantly when turned on

- Come in a variety of different bulb types

- Bulbs do not draw power when they are turned on so they do not waste any energy.

- Most efficient bulb on the market right now.

LED LightingAdvantages

- Last 50x longer than incandescent bulbs and 5x longer than fluorescent bulbs- 50,000 hours (13 and a half years at 10 hours a day or almost 6 years continuous)

- Produces the same amount of light a 60 watt incandescent and 13 watt fluorescent bulb in just 8 watts

- Brightest and clearest light

- Emit no heat, so will save on your air conditioning bills as well

LED lights used to be rather costly when they first came out, but as time has passed the price has gone down considerably.

LED LightingCommonly Misconceived Disadvantages

Page 12: CBM Energy Study

- Can save up to 65% energy

- Provide Brighter and Clearer light

- LED’s look nicer

- Save up to 50% on your electric bill

- LED’s don't heat up

- They last up to 50,000 hours

- Don't waste electricity

WHY Switch to

LED ?

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that if 50% of the buildings in the U.S switch to LED lighting by 2027, we could:- Deliver savings of about $265 billion. 130+ Countries have their total annual GDP less

then this amount- Avoid 40 new power plants.- Reduce lighting electricity demand by 33% in 2027.- The Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 established a tax deduction for energy-efficient commercial buildings of between $0.30 and $1.80 per square foot depending on technology and amount of energy reduction

If 50% of buildings in U.S Switch to LED lighting

Page 16: CBM Energy Study

Types of LED bulbs Diffused bulbs- Spreads light out over a wider area

Dimmable Globe bulbs- Dimmable from 100% to 10%. Consumes 10 watts of power while emitting the same amount of light as a 40 watt incandescent bulb

Track Lighting- 90% more efficient than incandescent and last 50 times longer

Flame tip- Designed to replace Candelabra bulbs, these draw only 3.5 watts while producing the same amount of light as a 25-35 watt incandescent bulb.

Tube Lights- Designed to replace fluorescent tube lighting, these are available in 8 watt bulbs (replaces 25 watt fluorescent) and 16 watt bulbs(replaces 40 watt fluorescent). Cheapest to install if you already have tube lighting.
