IDOT Trains for the Winter On October 27th, Illinois Department of Transporta- tion Region 9 held its annual Fall training seminar at John A. Logan College. This year the event was held in O’Neil Auditorium. The training was to prepare IDOT winter workers for the upcoming winter hazard work season. The seminar introduced new regulations and covered materials such as temporary work, em- ployment benefits, winter hazards, snow and ice re- moval for Illinois’ highway network system during the winter months and working in emergency conditions. The training was part of a working relationship the Center for Business & Industry enjoys with IDOT. Assistant Secretary David Phelps believes such a rela- tionship is important to the training needs of IDOT. “Their facilities are exactly what we need,” stated Phelps. “When we have groups as large as what we had this time, it’s always nice to know John A. Logan has the space and the staff ready to accommodate us,” added Phelps. More than 200 IDOT Region 9 em- ployees attended the training. IDOT employees use O’Neil Auditorium for their Fall/Winter training and preparation.

IDOT Trains for the Winter On October 27th, Illinois Department of Transporta-tion Region 9 held its annual Fall training seminar at John A. Logan College. This year the event was held in O’Neil Auditorium. The training was to prepare IDOT winter workers for the upcoming winter hazard work season. The seminar introduced new regulations and covered materials such as temporary work, em-ployment benefits, winter hazards, snow and ice re-moval for Illinois’ highway network system during the winter months and working in emergency conditions.

Laborer’s Train for Hazardous Material Handling and Cleanup

The Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 773 conducted a 10 hour OSHA training class at John A. Logan College, Center for Busi-ness & Industry the week of Nov. 30 thru Dec. 5. The train-ing included HazMat regulation enforcement for employees who handle or may handle haz-ardous material in their work-place. The 10 hour course also included topics preparing em-ployees with information con-cerning hazardous chemicals through labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS), training and education, and a list of haz-ardous chemicals in each work area.

The class conducted training exercises throughout the Workforce Development building on the campus of John A. Logan College. The Workforce Development building is designed to accommodate many aspects of employee and business training. The Laborer’s training easily made use of the space including class-room work and HazMat suit and respirator certification.

Do I get college credit for these courses?

Yes. Attendees can earn vocational skills credit from John A. Logan College for all computer and skills management courses.

How Do I Cancel?

Building Operator Certification

Southern Illinois Training Schedule

Building Operator Certification training includes nearly 80 hours of classroom and project work in

building systems maintenance. Each course in the series is completed in a one-day training session

except BOC 103 – HVAC Systems and Controls. Unless otherwise noted, training begins at 8 a.m.

and ends by 4 p.m. Tuition for the complete training series is $1,250. Your organization may

be eligible for a tuition rebate of $450. Early registration is encouraged.

Pharmacy Technician Training Program

John A. Logan College – Center for Business and Industry now offers a training program for those who wish to learn skills for an entry-level health-care profession. The John A. Logan College Pharmacy Technician pro-gram prepares students to enter the pharmacy field in hospitals, home infu-sion pharmacies, or community pharmacies as an ancillary. Illinois Mandates Certification Beginning on January 1, 2010, within 2 years after being employed as a registered technician, a pharmacy technician must become certified by successfully passing the PTCB examination or another Board‐approved pharmacy technician examina‐tion in order to continue to perform phar‐macy technician's duties. This require‐ment does not apply to pharmacy techni‐cians hired prior to January 1, 2008.
