Dear Parishioners,
I hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving weekend! I sure did!
This is an odd year when we have a week between Thanksgiving and the start of Advent. This weekend we celebrate Christ the King Sunday, a day in which we recognize Christ as the Supreme and Constant in our lives. Amid all the chaos that we encounter in our everyday life, Christ is the one constant that will be with us always, for eternity! In all honesty, it is the one thing that keeps me focused and allows me to find much Faith, Joy, Hope, and Love in my everyday life.
Faith, Joy, Hope, and Love are themes of Advent and allow us to focus on Jesus as the Light of the World that brings these gifts amidst the darkness of our lives. As you begin your preparation for Christmas I encourage you to take the time to think about how you can use this Advent to spiritually prepare yourself and your family for the celebration of the birth of Christ. We have a program this weekend called Rejoice, and it includes an Advent journal. We also have the Little Blue Books that have become popular for people to use for daily reflections.
Together with St. John of the Cross Parish, we will celebrate our annual Advent Communal Reconciliation Service at St. John of the Cross on Monday evening, December 3, at 6:30 pm. We will join together in prayer, seeking the peace that comes with the endless mercy of our God, and we will also have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please join us in receiving God's forgiveness and grace as we begin to look forward to the coming of Emmanuel —God's most precious act of love and mercy for us. Fr. Thom, Fr. Tim, and I will be there, along with a number of other priests. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this time.
This week we will be holding our annual ANGELS appeal to help raise funds for tuition assistance for the children of our parishioners and community members who attend our school. While it is true that many of our students receive the EDChoice voucher from the state of Ohio, over 150 of our children, mostly parishioners, are required to pay tuition. If not for the generosity of parishioners through funds like the ANGELS appeal, a Catholic education would not be possible for them. Last year our appeal generated about $40,000 in tuition assistance to over 100 students. Thank you! This year we will be participating in #WeGiveCatholic with the Dio-cese of Cleveland. Please read the information elsewhere in the bulletin on how to participate in the #WeGiveCatholic initiative on Giving Tuesday, November 27. In advance, thank you so much for your support of the important work of Catholic education.
With Advent and Christmas coming, here are some important events/happenings in the parish:
• Giving Trees are now up in the Vestibule. We have over 40 families requesting our help with presents and food this Christ-mas. I have noticed that many times the requests for presents are just basic necessities for life such as clothing and household items. I so appreciate your generosity and support of this project. Please take a tag, or two and happy shopping!
• Sr. Dorothy Kazel was a former teacher at St. Robert School who became a missionary and was martyred doing the Lord’s work in El Salvador. I believe her wonderful giving spirit lives on in this year’s recipient of the Alleluia Award. The Sr. Dor-othy Kazel Alleluia Award will be given out next week on December 2 at the 11:00 am Mass. This year’s recipient is a sur-prise. Please plan on attending to honor a very deserving person.
Make it a great week! See you in Church.
Peace,
Fr. John
Let us Pray: To kick off the new church year, we will be offering a beautiful opportunity to grow as a com-munity in our prayer for each other. Beginning No-vember 25, on the feast of Christ the King, you will notice a basket at the entrance of the church where you can write an anonymous prayer intention, and/or pick-up an intention to pray for, which will allow us to pray for each other in a very tangible way and com-fort those who need prayers with the knowledge that they are being prayed for. Many of these intentions will also be brought to those who are homebound and are unable to actively participate in the parish, but desire to remain linked to the parish community by offering their prayers, joys, sufferings, and sacrifices for these intentions. We hope that you will consider adding your intentions, and taking an intention as a way to link our community in prayer.
SRW Outreach *We offer so many thanks to Jay Raddell of Raddell Sausage who was our Celebrity Server at our October Community meal. He graciously joined SRW students in serving the din-ner and visiting with our guests.
November’s Celebrity Server is John Barbish, Mayor of Wickliffe. Come quiet your hearts for the Advent season while enjoying a free hot meal and fellowship. *The Giving Tree is in place, and we thank you in advance for your generosity of gift-giving. Please remember to include the tag with the gift. The deadline for return is Sunday, December 8, 2018. *The monthly food/toiletry collection is December 1-2. Baskets will be placed in the vestibule for your items.

Teaching Mass
Fr. John invited the SRW preschool students, along with their parents and grandparents, to a “teaching” Mass last week. Fr. John explained each part of the Mass and all of the prayers as the liturgy was celebrated. After Mass, the students were given a tour of “Jesus’ kitchen.” They were able to see where all the sacred vessels are stored and ask questions about the priests’ vestments. Thank you, Fr. John for helping our youngest worshippers gain a better understanding of what happens dur-ing Mass and why.
Have you thought of leaving a legacy, especially for our parish or school? Remember Ss. Robert & William in your will or trust to continue our traditions and education. Contact Fr. John at the Parish Office for more information.
