Holy Communion Communion Outside of Mass | Tuesdays & Fridays, 4:30pm Registered parishioners who cannot or choose not to attend public Mass because of the coronavirus pandemic are invited to a Holy Communion service at 4:30pm on Tuesday or Friday outside the rectory front door (324 S. Prior Ave.) All Catholics continue to be dispensed from any obligation to Mass and Holy Communion while the pandemic persists, so this opportunity is entirely optional. If you are not yet registered as a parishioner, you can do so by contacting the parish office at (651) 696-5401 or [email protected]. Finally, if you are unable to leave your home or come to the rectory, let us know, and we’ll figure out an alternative. Visit https://nativitystpaul.org/communion for more information.
Holy Orders Priesthood Sunday | Sunday, September 27 Next Sunday is a special day set aside to honor the priests of the United States. We are invited to reflect upon the gift of the priesthood and affirm those who have answered the call to serve the Church. We would like to invite you to thank Fr. Patrick Hipwell, our pastor, and Fr. Nick Hagen, our parochial vicar, as well as all who currently serve us upon request and those who have served us in the past, either verbally or with a written note delivered to the parish office — and most importantly, through prayer for them and their ministry. Please join us as we honor our priests next Sunday!
Sacred Music Music Expanded at Sunday Liturgies; Choir Returning We are happy to announce that the Nativity Choir has begun preparations to resume singing at parish Masses in the near future. We have also incorporated music into the 8:15am Sunday Mass, in addition to the 11am Mass. Congregational singing will continue to be suspended in the interest of health and safety.
Respect Life Fall 40 Days Kickoff | Sunday, September 20, 12pm Join friends from neighboring parishes for our Fall 40 Days Kick Off event this Sunday, September 20 safely outside on the playground of Saint Mark’s at noon (following their 11am Mass) for fellowship to discuss 40 Days efforts in our area. Food will be provided free of charge by the Respect Life leadership of our parishes, but donations are always appreciated. Prayer at Planned Parenthood | Wednesday, September 23 Please join us on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood on Vandalia St. in peaceful prayer anytime, but especially during these 40 Days (September 23 - November 1), keeping safe distance between yourself and others. Families with little ones in strollers are especially encouraged to come on the first day between 7am-noon for peaceful prayer. These little ones are especially powerful witnesses. Later that day, please come to the Opening Prayer Rally Candlelight Vigil at 6pm at Planned Parenthood, hosted by Pro-Life Action ministries. Our parishes have also adopted three days of prayer there: The Feast of the Archangels on Tuesday, September 29, Our Lady of the Rosary on Wednesday, October 7, and Pope St. John Paul II on Thursday, October 22. Our goal is to have a minimum of two prayer witnesses signed up each hour from 6am-6pm on each day. In addition, on Respect Life Sunday (October 4), there will be clergy-led prayer at 1pm at Planned Parenthood. To RSVP for the kickoff or to sign up for an hour of prayer, contact Karen McCann at (612) 964-4522 or [email protected]. To find out more about this important life-saving effort, visit www.40daysforlife.com. Be a part of our community's peaceful and prayerful efforts to end abortion!
Mass from Home Video Mass from Nativity Live-streamed and archived Masses are available at https://nativitystpaul.org/online-liturgies as well as on our parish website homepage and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/NativityStPaul/live_videos/). See page 2 or the back page calendar for days and times. Other Broadcasts Mass is also on Relevant Radio, 1330 AM on Sundays at 9am, with Daily Mass at 12pm. Sunday Mass is on local TV at 11am on KSTC-TV/45. Finally, EWTN (Comcast cable ch. 291) has daily Mass at 7am, 11am, 6pm, and 11pm, and is rebroadcast on channels 14.2, 14.4, and 14.5. Spiritual Communion Whenever anyone is unable to receive Holy Communion — for any number of reasons — we can make a “Spiritual Communion” by praying that Our Lord would come to us when we cannot receive him substantially. We pray this one during our online Masses:
Jesus, I believe you are truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist. I wish, my Lord, to receive you with the purity, humility, and devotion with which your most holy Mother received you, with the spirit and the fervor of the saints. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, please come spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as being already there. Amen!
Mass Attendance Preparedness Plan We have developed a comprehensive plan to resume public liturgies as safely as possible during the ongoing pandemic. Visit https://nativitystpaul.org/phase2 for more information. Please continue to observe the following for public liturgies:
Stay home if you feel sick or have flu-like symptoms, especially a fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
If attending Mass might otherwise put you or others at risk, whether because of your age (65+), medical reasons, or close proximity to someone who is ill, please stay home.
Face coverings (covering nose and mouth) are required to be worn throughout Mass. Very young children (two years or younger) and those with conditions that prevent them from wearing a face covering are exempt.
Arrive at least 15 minutes early to Mass — especially the 8:15am Sunday Mass — to ensure seating, and to help us most effectively use our space in the church. Overflow seating is available in Steiner Hall.
Enter via the main Stanford doors (subject to construction detours) or the elevator door on Prior Ave.
Here’s what else to expect will continue to be different:
Congregants may need to wait outside to be ushered inside and to specifically designated seating areas.
There will be no communal collection during Mass. We invite you to donate online at https://nativitystpaul.org/online-giving or submit envelopes at the door.
Liturgy 5pm Saturday Open to the Public | Resumes September 26 As weekend attendance grows, we are happy to announce that beginning next Saturday, September 26 we will be opening up the Saturday 5pm vigil Mass to the public. This Mass will continue to be live-streamed as well. It is our hope that we can add more Masses in the future as the availability of volunteers allow. Volunteers Needed We need volunteer ushers, lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers for the soon-to-be public Saturday 5pm Mass. If you are low-risk for the coronavirus (as defined by current Archdiocesan and CDC/MDH guidelines) and can help, please contact our Director of Liturgy Patrick Henning at the parish office for more information at (651) 696-5430 or [email protected]. We are also looking for a few more volunteers to help at our other Masses throughout the week and weekend, including both those who can commit to a regular schedule and those who can be available as a substitute. Communion During Mass | Resumes September 26 The Archdiocese has now granted permission to return to the distribution of Holy Communion to its regular time during the Mass, and we’ll resume Communion during Mass beginning with Lord’s Day Masses next weekend, September 26-27. Please follow the ushers’ guidance when processing to Communion to ensure the health and safety of each of us. The Communion procession will continue via the side aisles, with communicants returning to pews via the center aisle, careful to maintain six feet from other households as you do so. At the conclusion of Mass, the ushers will dismiss you again, row by row, to exit as you do now through the southeast and southwest doors (barring construction detours). While we know many of us prefer to stay in the church to pray after Mass, we respectfully ask that everyone leave the church at that time so that we can begin our sanitation duties. If Adoration is available after Mass (weekdays or weekend evenings), you are welcome to return to the church after the sanitizing is complete, usually about 15-30 minutes after Mass is finished. We will implement this Communion change as a trial over four weeks. It is critical that we can do this in a safe and controlled manner and with everyone’s support and cooperation. If, after the four week trial, we feel comfortable with this change, it will continue. No Reservations Needed for All Public Masses All public Masses at Nativity of Our Lord no longer require a reservation, and congregants are seated on a first-come, first-served basis. What about the Sunday obligation? The Sunday obligation remains suspended. Furthermore, if the idea of attending a large Mass makes you uneasy, consider attending a daily Mass, where there are sometimes smaller congregations, or simply stay home.

Pastoral Care
Grief Group Nativity of Our Lord’s grief support group is gauging interest and exploring ways to meet safely, including a virtual platform such as Zoom or an in-person meeting in Steiner Hall with proper COVID-19 precautions such as masks, social distancing, sanitizing, and less than ten in attendance. We would meet the first Thursday of the month, from 9-10am, October-June, beginning 10/1. This is an open, peer-supported group that welcomes anyone who has suffered a loss of someone or something of value. If interested, please contact Nancy Shatek-Suek, Pastoral Care Coordinator, at (651) 696-5444 or [email protected]. Special Program for Interring Cremated Remains Catholic Cemeteries is offering a new program now through October 2, Bringing Them Home, in which they will inter the cremated remains that people may have at home or stored somewhere, for a nominal fee of $200 per urn. They will be interred into a communal crypt at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in Mendota Heights.
