REFLECTION
Baptism of our Lord Jesus
The Baptism of our Lord is the theme of this Sunday’s liturgy. His baptism is not that of repentance but the
beginning of His mission and in this baptism God introduces Jesus to the people as His beloved Son. For us
listeners, we must take Jesus seriously for He is not an ordinary person nor just one of the charismatic reli-
gious leaders. He is God-sent, anointed, and has a divine nature and does his mission through his words and
deeds. His words are his sayings, parables, teachings, etc and his deeds are his miracles, healings, casting out
of demons ,and forgiving. Jesus self-awareness as the Son of God, beloved, chosen one makes him stand by
his mission.
This feast is a good occasion for us Christians, to reflect on our baptism for this purifies us from our sins and
removes the original sin. We are also declared by God as his beloved ones, sons and daughters, and it incor-
porates us into the family of God in the Church, Christ’s body. Our baptism marks the beginning of our mis-
sion and doing nothing to spread the good news is reneging our baptism.
This year 2020, we Catholics are reminded that our baptism initiates us to the mission of Christ which include
bearing witness to other religious acts and we are to communicate the Good News of our salvation through
words and deeds.
“ The heavens were opened and the Father’s voice was heard : this is my Son, the beloved, listen to him!
Alleluia.”( Mark 9.7 ) Amen.
