Converter Buying Methods – Serial Numbers• All converters have a Primary
Serial Number. This usually relates to the manufacturer and type e.g. "GM88" is a General Motors type 88 converter.
• Later models had a sub-code added which can indicate the platinum content.
• Most scrap dealers have a catalogue of converter prices to work out how much each one is worth.

Converter Buying Methods – Ceramic Core• Specialist refining companies will
buy the contents of converters. • They will extract the precious
metals from the ceramic core which looks like grey dust or powder.
• Some criminals know how to remove the core and will sell it directly to refining companies.
• This makes it impossible to trace the theft.
