LET’S LOOK AT SOME DATA

•QQ2: 52%

• Improvement from last time!

•High score shout out: Amber!

•Shout outs: Shanbria, Kelsey!

•Lots of work to do BUT I know we ALL can do it!

CLASSIFICATION OF ORGAN SYSTEMS

Page 11: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

SWBAT TO CLASSIFY ORGAN SYSTEMS OF THE BODY AS EITHER 1) PROTECTION, SUPPORT AND MOVEMENT, 2) REGULATION AND INTEGRATION 3) TRANSPORT 4) ABSORPTION AND EXCRETION

Page 12: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

• 1. What might need to be protected in the body?

• 2. Why must we be supported?

• Why must we create movement?

Page 13: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

1. What types of things need to be regulated in the body?

2. When we talk about integration between organ systems, what might that look like?

Page 14: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

• What materials are transported throughout the body?

Page 15: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

• What materials are absorbed by the body?

• What materials are excreted by the body?

Page 16: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

• What is the one organ system we haven’t classified?

ON EVEN PAGES OF YOUR NOTEBOOK, WRITE DOWN THE FOLLOWING ORGAN SYSTEMS AS WELL AS THEIR FUNCTION…

• 1. Urinary 7. Muscular

• 2. Cardiovascular 8. Endocrine

• 3. nervous 9. Integumentary

• 4. skeletal 10. Digestive

• 5. Lymphatic

• 6. respiratory

LET’S MAKE FLASH CARDS…8 WITH ONE PAPER = 16 NOTE CARDS

• Make the following flash cards:

• 1. systems that participate in protection, support, movement

• 2. systems that participate in regulation and integration

• 3. systems that participate in absorption and excretion

• 4. systems that participate transportation

• 5. One note card for each system and its function on the back.

BRAIN BREAK!

• What’s going on in science??

ORGAN CAVITIES!

• Objective:

•SWBAT to construct a concept map to illustrate the cavities in the body and the organs contain within each area.

CATALYST

• What are the organs contained in the integumentary system?

• What are the functions of the digestive system?

• What are the eight characteristics of life?

LET’S REVIEW…

BODY CAVITIES

• The body is internally divided into two major body cavities, the DORSAL and VENTRAL body cavities.

• The organs within these cavities are called VISCERA

• Membranes line the cavities

Page 24: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

1-24

BODY CAVITIES•Diaphragm: divides body cavity into

thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities.

•Mediastinum: contains all structures of the thoracic cavity except the lungs

SEROUS MEMBRANES

• Cover the organs of trunk cavities and line the cavity

• Fist represents an organ

• Inner balloon wall represents visceral serous membrane

• Outer balloon wall represents parietal serous membrane

• Cavity between two membranes filled with lubricating serous fluid that is produced by the membranes

• Inflammation of the serous membranes

Please note that due to differing operating systems, some animations will not appear until the presentation is viewed in Presentation Mode (Slide Show view). You may see blank slides in the “Normal” or “Slide Sorter” views. All animations will appear after viewing in Presentation Mode and playing each animation. Most animations will require the latest version of the Flash Player, which is available at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.

DORSAL BODY CAVITY:

• The cranial cavity: enclosed by the cranium, which contains the brain

• The vertebral cavity: enclosed by the vertebral column and contains the spinal cord.

Page 28: CATALYST QUESTIONS: List the organs of the following systems: Urinary, digestive, nervous. List the functions of the following systems: muscular, integumentary,

VENTRAL BODY CAVITY:

• Thoracic cavity: is separated by the mediastinum.

• The left and right sides contains the lungs which are lined with pleural cavities

• The medial: esophagus, trachea, thymus, and heart

• The heart is surrounded by the pericardial cavity

SEROUS MEMBRANES: NAMED FOR THEIR SPECIFIC CAVITIES AND ORGANS• Pericardium refers to heart.

• Pleura refers to lungs and thoracic cavity

• Peritoneum refers to abdominopelvic cavity

ABDOMINOPELVIC CAVITY

• Abdominal cavity: digestive organs, spleen, kidneys, and ureters.

• Pelvic cavity: large intestine, urinary bladder, urethra, and reproductive organs.

INDEPENDENT WORK/EXIT TICKET…THIS IS FOR A GRADE!!

• Label and list the organs contained in each cavity.
