Solartys’ aim is to enhance the competitiveness of its industries through four fundamental pillars:• Internationalization• Promotion of R & D • Training• Funding search

Solartys is a non-profi t making, voluntary organization grouping more than 100 Spanish companies operating on an international scale with the following purposes:• Encourage and help the internationalization of the Spanish Solar Energy Industry• Promote strategies to improve energy effi ciency• Develop an industry based on international technology and innovation• Provide training and funding• Promote the networking and cooperation among Spanish companies, international companies and institutions

The association plays a key role in fostering the interna-tionalization and innovation within its members, with the support of the Spanish Government and regional bodies in coordination with Spanish local associations. In 2009 Solartys was recognized as a National Cluster of the solar energy sector by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade. The association has also been awarded with the Bronze Label of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative by ESCA, the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis.

Solartys participates actively in several European funded projects, specially focused on technological transfer, networking, communication and capitalization.

The Solar Energy Institute –Instituto de Energía Solar, IES- is a research Institute of the Polytechnic University of Madrid -UPM- devoted exclusively to photovoltaic (PV) research.

It was created in 1979 by Prof. Antonio Luque, from the previous Semiconductor Laboratory whose activity in photovoltaics started as a major one in 1975. It is worth saying that it’s probably the oldest center worldwide devoted to photovoltaic conversion and its commitment to support the development and deployment of this tec-nology has been evident since its foundation: IES has launched about half a docen new companys -representing an investment of more than €200m- and another half a docen R&D centers -€50m-, IES has about 50 granted patents and it has taken part in more than 150 projects -coordinating a great part-, IES has trained roughly a hundred PhD, etc…

At the moment the personnel of the IES is over 50. It is located in a 1380 m² building, equipped with a PVfacade and yard roof of 13.3 kWp. The Concentration Photovoltaic System Institute (ISFOC) is a company incorporated on 2006 as a subsidiary of Finance Institute of Castilla-La Mancha Group.

It is a result of the R&D plan promoted by the Autonomous Region of Castilla-La Mancha Government and the Solar Energy Institute from Polytechnic University of Madrid. The project is endorsed by the Ministry of Economy and Com-petitiveness. The acquisition of the CPV Plants, the headquarter ,and some of the ISFOC´s scientifi c and technological equipment have been co-fi nanced by Castilla-La Mancha Operative Program ERDF 2007-2013.In order to generate knowledge on this technology, ISFOC has installed different CPV power plants from various technologies: Isofotón, Renovalia CPV, and Sol3g (acquired by Abengoa Solar) from Spain; Emcore Corporation and Solfocus from USA; and Concentrix (recently acquired by Soitec), from Germany; Arima Eco from Taiwán. The objecti-ve of these pilot plants together with other new technologies tested continuously by ISFOC is to assist the industries in the development of this technology providing valuable information obtained in the process such as reliability, suitability and production from each technology.

At present, some international projects are being carried out in liaison with different technological partners, Univer-sities, R&D Centres, companies, as examples, may be mentioned NACIR Project carried out in Morocco and Egypt; Masdar CPV Demo Project in Abu Dhabi (EAU).
