DevelopmentoftheGame
The idea for Common Currency came about as the author was exploring the effects ofcompetition on team building. She discovered that very few people were aware of thebeneficialnatureofcompetitionwithinacollaborativeenvironment,soshedecidedtocreateagamethatwoulddemonstratethosebenefits.
Thechallengewastocreateagamethatutilizedthespiritofcooperativecompetitionwhileremaining flexible enough tomeet a variety of training needs. Themost important issueduring development was the use of limited resources to create a heightened sense ofcompetition, while utilizing a process that would require teams to collaboratewith eachother.Thiswasaccomplishedintwoways:first,byprovidinganunequaldistributionofcoins,withadecreasingamountofcoinsasthevaluesincreased;andsecond,byformulatingseveraldata"bits"aboutthecoinsintheformofInformationCards,whichplayerswouldneedto

accesstodeterminegamestrategies.Thecardsweremadeinduplicatetoincorporatetheriskofnegotiatingforinformationthatwasalreadyknown.
Tofurtherlimittheseresources,thecoinsandcardsweretoberandomlydistributedinsmallportionstoeachparticipatinggroup.Therefore,teamswouldhavediverseassortmentsofcoinvaluesandpiecesofinformation.Inanattempttogainthemostvaluablecoincollection,participantswouldneedtocooperatewithintheirownteamaswellasnegotiatewithothergroupsforinformationandcoins.Theresultinginteractionswouldestablishthebasisforthedebriefingtopics.WhattoOrder
