  • Clear Full-Circle View. A tapered hoodand notched fuel tank give the operatora clear line of sight to the front, rear andside work areas. The new streamlineddesign of the Caterpillar 583T Pipelayeroffers several operator visibilityimprovements for more precisemaneuvering and placement of pipe.

    Steering Control. Dual-twist tiller controlwith standard differential steering controlsdirection and degree of turns, forward-reverse shifting, and gear selection in asingle control handle. One hand steeringenhances operator comfort.

    Cat Comfort Series Seat. Ergonomicallydesigned and fully adjustable formaximum comfort.

    Seat cushion reduces the pressureon the lower back and thighs whileallowing unrestricted arm and legmovement.

    Seat is raised and moved to theleft providing improved allaround visibility.

    Ergonomic Work Tool Controls.Pipelayer controls are low effort andallow simultaneous, precise positioningof the load line and boom with one hand.

    Monitoring System. Provides theoperator instant feedback on the conditionof operating systems and records suchperformance data as high/low gaugereadings to help diagnose problems andmanage undercarriage.     C15 Block. The one-piece, grey ironblock features generous ribbing forstiffness and heavy bearing bulkheadsfor rigidity and strength. Incorporationof straight o-ring connection pointsreduces the loss of engine oil and fluids.

    Constant Net Horsepower.

    Constant net horsepower allows theoperator to maintain high standardsof performance and response, evenwhen parasitic loads, such as theon-demand cooling fan, are applied.

    Engine automatically adjusts tomaintain power output and converselylowers output when demands are low.

    Significant fuel savings in coolerclimates and during long engine idletimes typical of pipeline applications.

  • ADEM A4 Engine Controller.The ADEM A4 electronic controlmodule manages fuel delivery to getthe best performance per liter (gal) offuel used. It provides flexible fuelmapping, allowing the engine to respondquickly to varying application needs.It tracks engine and machine conditionswhile keeping the engine operating atpeak efficiency.

    Fuel Delivery. Multiple injection fueldelivery involves a high degree ofprecision. Precisely shaping thecombustion cycle lowers combustionchamber temperatures generatingfewer emissions and optimizing fuelcombustion; translating into morework output for your fuel cost.

    MEUI Fuel System. A highly evolvedfuel system with a proven record ofreliability in the field. MEUI combinesthe technical advancement of anelectronic control system with thesimplicity of direct mechanicallycontrolled unit fuel injection.The MEUI system excels in its abilityto control injection pressure over theentire engine operating speed range.These features allow the C15 to havecomplete control over injection timing,duration, and pressure. ATAAC and Turbocharging.

    Air-to-air aftercooling keeps air intaketemperatures down and, in concert withthe tight tolerance combustion chambercomponents, maximizes fuel efficiencyand minimizes emissions. Significantimprovements in air flow are generatedby a water-cooled turbocharger, uniquecross-flow head and single overhead cam.

    Service. Easier maintenance and repairthrough monitoring key functions andlogging critical indicators. Electronicdiagnostic access is possible with asingle tool, the Cat Electronic Technician.

  • Differential Steering System. A planetarydifferential turns the machine by speedingup one track and slowing the other,while maintaining full power to both.The system consists of three planetarygear sets.

    Provides enhanced side slopecapability.

    Two planetary gear sets(steering and drive) make upthe dual differential, whichperforms the traditional drivefunction (forward or reverse).Unlike competitive machines,the differential also performs asteering function with input fromthe steering motor.

    A third planetary gear set, theequalizing planetary, residesinside the transmission case. It isconnected to the dual differential,which provides a maximum speeddifference between the right and leftfinal drives during a turn.

    A dedicated variable-displacementhydraulic pump.

    A bi-directional, fixed-displacementsteering motor.

    Heavy-duty steering drive gears.

    Planetary Power Shift Transmission.Three speeds forward and three speedsreverse, utilizing large diameter, highcapacity, oil-cooled clutches.

    Modulation system permits fastspeed and direction changes.

    Modular transmission anddifferential slide into rear case forservicing ease.

    Oil-to-water cooler for maximumcooling capacity.

    Forced oil flow lubricates and coolsclutch packs to provide maximumclutch life.

    Elevated Final Drives.

    Isolated from ground and equipmentinduced impact loads for extendedpower train life.

    Torque Divider. A high efficiencytorque divider with freewheel statorprovides high torque multiplicationwhile shielding the drive train fromsudden torque shocks and vibration.

    Drawbar vs. Speed. As loads on thetractor increase, the 583T offersunmatched lugging capability andsmooth shifting as the need occursto change gears under varying loads.The 3-speed forward, 3-speed reversetransmission, backed by differentialsteering, offers excellent runoutspeeds and accurate steering capabilityunder load.

    Roller Frames. Roller frames are tubularto resist bending and twisting, withadded reinforcement where operatingloads are highest.

    Sprocket Segments. Made exclusivelyof Caterpillar Tough Steel for longerwear life and precision machined afterheat treat for proper fit. Segments canbe removed or replaced withoutbreaking the track.

    Track Shoes. Track shoes are 710 mm(28 in) single grouser design and madefrom heat treated, rolled steel for addedstrength. Wide track and clipped shoesare available as an option to matchworking conditions. Long track frameand wide gauge enhance track contactarea, providing a stable working base.

    Positive Pin Retention (PPR) Sealedand Lubricated Track. Designed forhigh-impact and high load applications.The PPR exclusive Caterpillar designlocks the link to the pin.
