Please make allowance for possible delays in the Christmas postal rush, which is well under way by the third week of November. In the last two years we have regrettably had to refuse entries which arrived too late after spending several days held up in the post. Also, bear in mind that rosette manufacturers and catalogue printers close down for Christmas and the New Year just like most other businesses. This gives us very little flexibility in accepting late entries.

Important notice for exhibitors of Asians, Abyssinians, Shorthaired Somalis, Russians, Nebelungs, Korat &Thais, Singapuras, Snowshoes, Pedigree

Pets, Non Pedigrees and Foreign assessment breeds

Please note that we are sharing the Sports Connexion venue with the joint show of the Asian Group Cat Society, the Korat Cat Association, the Singapura Cat Club, the Snowshoe Cat Society and the Russian & Abyssinian Cat Club Of Scotland. This means that owners of these clubs’ breeds may enter both the SHCS show and the breed clubs show, giving themselves the possibility of winning two certificates from two different judges on the same day. Additionally, all foreign assessment breeds are catered for by the joint show as well as by the SHCS, and so these breeds, too, may compete for two Merit awards on one day. And for household pets that are chasing MCs, GMCs, Imperial or Olympian GMCs, they too may compete for two certificates by entering both shows. Simply pick up a schedule and entry form for the joint show, or download them from one of the participating clubs’ websites. You will need to complete two separate entry forms, one for each show. Your cat will then be judged quite independently in both shows.

SPECIAL NOTE

Exhibits must be entered in the appropriate Titled or Breed Class and up to 3 other classes. No exhibit may be entered in more than six classes. Exhibits may only enter Olympian, Imperial or Grand classes if they have obtained their title on or before the closing date of the show.

SHOW RULES, PROCEDURES AND REGULATIONS The show is held under the rules of the G.C.C.F. and is open to all. The complete rules are not printed here but will be strictly applied. Ignorance of any rule will not be accepted as an excuse for its breach. A copy of the rules may be obtained from G.C.C.F., 5 Kings Castle Business Park, The Drove, Bridgwater, TA6 4AG.

REGISTRATION All Cats, Kittens and Neuters must be registered with the GCCF. To be effective for entry all registrations and/or transfers must have reached the GCCF Office 21 days prior to the show. Household Pets are unregistered cats of unregistered or unknown parents; no registered cat may enter classes offered for them.

SHOW ENTRY FORM Exhibitors are responsible for the correct description of their cats and for entering them in the correct classes when completing their entry form for the Show. Exhibitors should read the declaration and must sign it. If the exhibit belongs to more than one person, each person must sign the entry form and all must be members of the various clubs to compete for the trophies that are offered. No Kitten can be entered in Adult classes unless stated for ‘Adult or Kitten’. Please remember to enclose an open stamped addressed envelope (not postcard!) with your entry. A copy of your entry as it will appear in the catalogue will be sent back to you for checking.

VETTING-IN Exhibits will be received at the Show Hall from 0800 to 0945 on 8th January 2011. There will be NO overnight penning. All exhibits must be brought to the show in boxes, baskets or suitable containers (top-opening recommended) and must be accompanied by their owner or representative.

Each exhibit will be examined on arrival by the Club’s Honorary Veterinary Surgeons. Exhibits may not be penned before this examination. Vetting-in cards will be given out on the day of the Show.

All exhibits must have coats free from pests, have clean ears & be generally in good health. Cats will not be accepted which show signs of being in kitten, nor male cats which are either monorchid or cryptorchid, nor any cat which has produced kittens within 12 weeks of the date of this show.

Any exhibit rejected by the Veterinary Surgeon must be removed by its owner(s) and entry fees are forfeited. There will be quarantine pens for rejected cats, but owners are advised to take home any unfit cat. If, in the opinion of the veterinary surgeon, it is desirable, all other exhibits from the same cattery and their owners shall be debarred from the Show. The veterinary surgeon’s decision is final.

Any exhibit which shows the effect of drugs e.g. stress remedies such as Skullcap and Valerian, including sedatives for travelling, will be considered unfit for exhibition and will lead to disqualification. Any cat or kitten disqualified by a veterinary surgeon or judge on grounds of condition must be reported by the Show Manager to the Secretary of the GCCF.

VACCINATIONS All cats exhibited at shows held under GCCF rules must have a current certificate of vaccination against FIE, FVR and FCV(cat flu). The full course or booster must have been completed more than seven days before the show. The certificate must be available for inspection at vetting-in. Cats without acceptable certificates might be rejected. Cats showing a positive reaction to the Feline Leukaemia Virus or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus must not be shown. Please note that for the purposes of vetting-in, homeopathic vaccinations are not acceptable to the GCCF.

PENNING OF EXHIBITS Each competitive exhibit must be provided with a white litter tray and clean, plain white blanket without distinctive marking or edging, which may be arranged in such a manner as to assist the comfort of the cat. Cellular blankets are not allowed but white Vetbed or like material may be used if preferred. A hot water bottle or heat-reflecting material may be used but must be concealed with a blanket. Judges are instructed to pass any pens which may be distinguished in any way. Exhibitors must provide white drinking bowls, which MUST be placed towards the rear of the pen. Food bowls must be removed when judging starts at 10.00am.

The use of grooming aids in the show hall, other than the use of a clean brush and comb or cloth, is prohibited. No powder or grooming substances may be left in the coats of exhibits. The use of shampoos that may change the colour of the cat’s coat can lead to disqualification.

Other than official notices or award cards, no written or printed matter may be placed on competitive pens. (Exhibition pens only, may be decorated and may carry printed matter relating to the exhibit.) Exhibits must not be removed from the show hall before the show is officially closed without the Show Manager’s written consent. Exhibits are received on condition that neither the Club nor the Management of the Show Hall shall be in any way responsible for loss, damage or injury to the exhibits, exhibitors or their property however it may be caused.

WITHDRAWAL FROM CAT SHOWS The last date for the withdrawal of a cat from a show is the advertised closing date for entries at that show. After this date the cat concerned may not be removed from the show catalogue and the 13-day rule will apply. This ruling does not prevent Show Managers from returning entries after the closing date if they are unable to accept them because the show is full.

Fees will be refunded for entries withdrawn before the published closing date. Withdrawal of entry MUST be in writing.

GENERAL Exhibitors & visitors are forbidden to remove or interfere with any exhibit other than their own. The show closes at 5.00pm. No cat may be removed from its pen before this time. There will be no early passes. No-one may remove any exhibit from its pen except the owner or a Show Official. Penalty for contravention of this rule is £10.

COUNTERSIGNING OF CERTIFICATES In the event of a change of judge of a Breed Class occurring after the closing date of the show, and provided that the exhibitor informs the Show Manager prior to judging that a Certificate has previously been awarded by the replacement judge, the Show Manager shall appoint one other judge who shall judge the cat and, if the cat is considered worthy, countersign the Certificate which shall then count towards championship status. If the replacement judge at the first show has also been previously booked for a subsequent show, the closing date of which is before the date of the first show, then at the subsequent show this judge can be considered as a replacement judge for the purpose of requesting a countersignature.

BITING AT SHOWS Any cat biting or inflicting injury by deliberately scratching a judge, veterinary surgeon, steward or other show official must be reported to the Show Manager. The Show Manager must withdraw the cat from the show and shall inform the owner of the cat in writing, sending a copy to the Secretary of the GCCF. If the cat was defending itself in exceptional and frightening circumstances that information should be given to the Secretary of the GCCF for consideration by the Executive Committee. If the cat is reported at any subsequent show, it shall be disqualified from all future shows unless the Executive Committee rules otherwise. The clipping of the tips of show cats’ claws is considered desirable.

VETERINARY CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES Exhibitors whose cats have been rejected at shows should note the following points : 1. When sending your clearance certification to the Veterinary Officer please include your copy of the rejection slip. 2. Please do not send this certification by recorded delivery as this can cause considerable delays in the receipt of your certificates. If you wish to satisfy yourself that your letter has reached the Veterinary Officer please enclose a stamped addressed postcard for acknowledgement of receipt. 3. Exhibitors should not attend shows until they have received a letter from the Secretary of the GCCF confirming clearance. It is recommended that this letter be taken to any shows attended within a month of the issue of the clearance letter.

JUDGES Judges are empowered to withhold any prize or championship in any class if the exhibits do not, in their opinion, possess sufficient merit. Prizes will be awarded from judges’ award slips not from catalogues or award cards.

THE COMMITTEE RETAINS THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO : a) Publish a catalogue of the show, containing information including the names and addresses of exhibitors and details of exhibits b) Cancel, divide and amalgamate classes c) Refuse to accept entries without giving a reason d) Fix a limit to the number of exhibits in the show e) Appoint other judges should those advertised be unable to fulfil their engagement, and to change judges of Miscellaneous and Club classes if necessary. Exhibitors are responsible for checking their entry in the catalogue is correct. Any discrepancies should be reported to the show management as soon as possible on the morning of the show.

CORRESPONDENCE All correspondence must be accompanied by a S.A.E. if a reply is required. Any complaint regarding the show must be forwarded to the Show Manager within seven days of the show.

CHAMPIONS AND PREMIERS The title of Champion (for Cats) and Premier (for Neuters) shall be granted to exhibits winning three Challenge/Premier certificates at three shows under separate judges. A GCCF Challenge/Premier Certificate will be offered for each Cat/Neuter Open Class of recognised breeds with championship status.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS AND PREMIER OF PREMIERS The title of Grand Champion shall be granted to a Cat winning three Grand Challenge Certificates at three shows under separate judges. To compete in a Champion of Champions Class a cat must be a full Champion. Only one prize, with a Reserve in case of disqualification, will be granted. The title of Grand Premier shall be granted to Neuters under the same rules and conditions as those for Grand Champion.

IMPERIAL GRAND CHAMPION AND IMPERIAL GRAND PREMIER The title of Imperial Grand Champion shall be granted to a Cat winning five Imperial Grand Challenge Certificates at five shows under five different judges. To compete in the Imperial Grand Champion Class a cat must be a full Grand Champion on the date the show closes. The title of Imperial Grand Premier shall be granted to Neuters under the same rules and conditions as those for Imperial Grand Champion. The Imperial classes will be split Male/Female.

OLYMPIAN GRAND CHAMPION AND OLYMPIAN GRAND PREMIER The title of Olympian Grand Champion shall be granted to a Cat winning five Olympian Grand Challenge Certificates at five shows under five different judges. To compete in the Olympian Grand Champion Class a cat must be a full Imperial Grand Champion on the date the show closes. The title of Olympian Grand Premier shall be granted to Neuters under the same rules and conditions as those for Olympian Grand Champion. The Olympian classes will be split Male/Female.

SPECIAL ADVICE TO EXHIBITORS (a) In the event of a cat being unable to attend due to illness, provided a vet’s certificate

is received by the Show Manager at least seven days before the Show, a refund may be made at the Show Manager’s discretion.

(b) You are advised against purchasing any shampoo that changes a cat’s colour, as this can lead to disqualification.

(c) Any alteration to your entry form must be in writing, which will be attached to the form by the Show Manager. You may also make corrections to the form up to the close of the Show.

(d) Kittens under 14 calendar weeks may not be shown. (e) Any person whose cats have been rejected under Sections C or D must not officiate

as a judge or steward or in any other capacity which requires the handling of cats at shows until a clearance certificate, as required by the GCCF, has been obtained.

(f) The use of small battery-driven fans in pens can be dangerous and could also be considered a distinguishing mark.

(g) Please note that in addition to the classes you have entered, your cat may also be handled for the purpose of assessing candidates in the GCCF Judge Appointment Scheme.

(h) Queens who have kittened within 12 weeks of the date of the show may not be shown.

DEFINITIONS

Adult Cat Not less than 9 calendar months on the day of the show.

Kitten Not less than14 weeks and under 9 calendar months on the day of the show. Note that neutered kittens must be entered in Kitten Open and Miscellaneous classes, and compete for BIS Kitten. Neuter kittens of Preliminary Breeds should be entered in kitten Assessment classes where separate Assessment classes for Adult, Kitten and Neuter are scheduled.

Neuter Neutered male or spayed female cat.

Novice Exhibits that have not won a First Prize in any class at a show held under G.C.C.F. Rules, at the time of entry.

Limit Exhibits that have not won more than four First Prizes at shows held under G.C.C.F. Rules.

Special Limit Exhibits which have won more than four First Prizes in any classes

Debutant Exhibits that have never previously been shown at a show held under G.C.C.F. Rules. If Debutant Adult and Neuter classes are offered at a show, entry as a Debutant Kitten does not count when the exhibit is shown as an Adult or Neuter, and entry as a Debutant Adult or Kitten does not count when the exhibit is subsequently neutered and shown.

Maiden Exhibits that have not won a First, Second or Third Prize in any class at a show held under G.C.C.F. Rules.

Breeders Exhibits bred by the exhibitor(s). Cats originally registered in Breeders’ joint ownership but changed to single ownership of one of the Breeders can still be entered in this class. Cats originally registered in the Breeder’s single ownership and changed to joint ownership with the Breeder should be entered in the Non-Breeders class.

Junior Cats over 9 calendar months of age and under 2 years on the day of the show.

Senior Cats 2 years and over on the day of the show.

Exhibition Cats, kittens or neuters attending the show for exhibition only and not entered in any competitive classes.

Assessment For preliminary breeds only. Entrants are reminded that it is their responsibility to provide a Standard of Points for their preliminary breed.

Non-Breeders Cats or kittens not bred by the exhibitor.

Adolescent Cats between 9 and 15 calendar months on the day of the show.

Aristocrat Adult or Neuter with 1 or 2 CCs / PCs but not yet a Champion / Premier, at time of entry.

Socialite For cats with one or more Merit Certificates at the time of entry.

Radius Living within 30 miles of the show hall.

Visitors Living further than 30 miles from the show hall.

The status of the exhibit for entering restricted classes (i.e. Maiden, Limit, etc.) shall be the cat’s status on the date of entry except where Section 2, Rule 15e regarding entry into Champion/Premier classes applies. Wins as a Kitten do not count when the exhibit is shown as an Adult or Neuter; wins as an Adult do not count when the exhibit is neutered and shown.

PUBLIC NOTICE The Executive Committee of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy reminds all cat owners of the dangers of using disinfectants based on Phenol or Cresol. These substances are highly poisonous to all cats. Exhibitors at shows should not use such disinfectants for cleaning pens, or take them into the Show Hall.

Aerosols and other sprays must not be used in the Show Hall.
