From the Principals Desk Welcome Back

Welcome back everybody to another busy term. It is fantastic to see that all of our families have returned from the Winter break and it has been great to hear about the many adventures our students had during the holidays. We are very glad to see you all back safely at school and look forward to catching up with you all during our many events scheduled for this term. SRC Fundraiser On the last day of Term 2 the school SRC ran a popcorn and movie fun day. I would like to congratulate the entire school for supporting this event and the SRC for their contribution to our school. Small Schools Athletics Carnival The Small Schools Athletics Carnival will be held next week with the Field events and 800m on Tuesday and the Track events on Friday. Mrs. McDonald and myself will be attending with our school team. We look forward to an exciting carnival and wish the Castlereagh Public School team all the very best of luck. Education Week Education Week 2019 is based around the theme ‘Every Child has a Voice’. We will be conducting our Education Week assembly on Wednesday 7th August 2019. The program will be as follows;

8.30-9.30am Book Fair in the Library 9.30-10.30am Education Week Assembly 10.30-11.00am Open Classrooms 11.00-11.30 am Recess and Book Fair in Library

All parents, friends and community members are welcome to attend and participate in celebrating Public Education. Penrith Valley Performing Arts Festival – School Choir & Dance Performance Next Thursday, the school choir and dance ensemble will perform at the Penrith Valley Performing Arts Festival. I am truly looking forward to an outstanding performance and watching the fantastic students of Castlereagh Public School sing & dance at the Joan Sutherland Centre. I would also like to make special mention to Mrs. Barrett and Mrs. Barker for

their tireless work that they have done in preparation tutoring the choir throughout the year. Their contribution is greatly appreciated and valued by our entire school community. I would also like to thank Mrs. Sutton and Mrs Catalogna for all the hard work they have done in preparing for the evening. You are both an asset to our great school! Good luck girls and boys and remember that we are all so very proud of you. August P&C Meeting The next scheduled P&C meeting will be conducted at 6pm on Thursday 1st August 2019. All parents and community members are welcome to attend. Tennis Lessons This term thanks to a grant from Sporting Schools Australia we are offering tennis lessons to each class. Tennis Australia has provided us with a tennis kit including nets, racquets and balls and 5 weeks coaching with Coach Eddie from the Penrith Tennis Club. We look forward to commencing these lessons from next week and ask that students wear appropriate running shoes on Tuesdays. I wish you all a very happy and safe fortnight ahead. Kind Regards Christine Wren Principal School Lunches School lunches are available to order online. Please go to www.myschoollunchbox.com.au and follow instructions on how to order. Crunch and Sip

Castlereagh Public School is a certified ‘Crunch and Sip’ school. All classes have a ‘Crunch and Sip’ break during the day where children are encouraged to eat fruit and sip water. A tally of the fruit eaten is kept as it is one of the activities the children can

complete to obtain their Healthy Lifestyle Challenge, Healthy Badge.

Waste Free Wednesdays Every Wednesday is a waste free day at CPS. This means whatever food and drink wrappings/scraps that the children have that day must be taken home with their lunches, a class tally is kept of the number of children having ‘nude foods’! These are foods that have no wrapping but come in a reusable

container. Thank you for your continued support for these two programs. Ice Blocks Ice blocks will be sold Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at lunch time. They range from 60c to $2 in price.

P&C Meeting Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 1st August at 6.00pm in the staff room. Please come along to participate or just observe. Everyone is welcome!
