SWAPWest
• Established in 1987• Aim: to widen access to higher education (post
school) for adults• A consortium of post school institutions
(colleges and Universities)• Adults > 21 yrs old with little or no formal
education– Disadvantaged (single parents, unemployed,
persons with disabilities, women returners, ethnic groups)

Scottish Education• Scottish Lifelong Learning provision is based on:
– Need to ensure the skills demand in Scotland are met– Reflect the current economic situation– Avoid duplication in public spending to maximise efficiency– Ensure that the workforce has the appropriate skills base to meet
