CHALLENGE

There is an increase of interest for dog ownership within the past decade. Despite growing demand, a good population of domesticated dogs do not have proper social interaction within their daily lives. There are some social experiences that cannot be attain with human-to-dog interaction alone.

Domesticated dogs are normally indoors and the only interaction that they may have is with their owners. It is important for dogs to have social life of their own apart from their owners. Dogs may provide companionship with a human but it is beneficial for them to have other dogs as their companions as well. It will also impact both dog and dog owner’s health benefits and emotional well-being.

Proposed target audience : Dog owners, between age 13-55 (ages 13-17 can sign up with parent’s permission), living in suburban areas

Statement of purpose : To provide a meet up service app for dog owners and their dogs within the area..

GOALS AND VISION

The Dingo! app can bridge a dog’s social life to their owner’s and other dog’s within their neighborhood. This can promote social benefits for dog interactions with other furry friends and their owners as well. Dog owners will have a chance to interact with other dog owners in their area. My vision to through the usage of this app, dogs will have increased social life and owners will get to know their neighbors more.

STATISTICS

Based on my research, the focus of today is on the unexpected finding that being emotionally attached to your pet while at the same time having decreased levels of human social support predicts increased levels of loneliness and depression scores. If you own a dog, if you’re living alone, this study will interest you.More and more people are living alone these days.

The potential psychological health benefits that pets may have to individuals living in one-person households is of particular interest. Everywhere there is a greater trend towards one-person household. One-person households accounted for 24% of American households in 2009, and these figures are similar for Europe in 2010.

1. Yes, I would like to use an app like this because my dog has seemed to be a little depressed since my parents moved out and I think could use some more social interaction. 2. One feature I would really like would be a list of different dog breeds with descriptions of each and some fun facts about them. 3. Yeah as I said before my dog Murphy as seemed to be depressed since my parents no longer live here and I think he would really benefit from some more social interaction. 4. I think that one feature that would make this app worth paying for would be if it linked to other services such as using partnering with Google maps to show any pet grooming or daycare locations in my area. 5. Yeah, I would probably go every other month at least to see if there are any new dog owners in my area.

USER PROFILE INTERVIEW

Questions 1. Would you find this app to be useful and why? 2. What features would you like to see in an app like this? 3. Do you think that your pets could benefit from the ability to have more social interaction? 4. What would be features for this app that you would consider “worth paying for”? 5. If this app were to offer special events such as monthly meetings or other organized events in your area, would you attend?

We’ve conducted interviews with dog owners about their experience with human and dog interactions.

- (Owned cats, mice, dogs, and other assorted animals) 1. Yes, I find this app helpful because not only is it a great way for you to meet other people with a passion for animals, but it would allow your pet to make friends in the process as well. 2. Features I would like to see is maybe have the ability to pin your location to make it quicker and easier to locate your friends when meeting in a large area such as a park. For example, in central park NY. I think the pin location ID’s should only be allowed if enabled or traded with other users. 3. Yes, just like people animals depend on and would benefit mentally and physically from having more social interaction. 4. I would be willing to pay monthly for this app if some portion would go to animal shelters or to boost awareness for animal abuse or animals who need a good home. 5. Yes, I would attend because I love to see happy animals and would like to meet more pet owners in my area.

USER EXPERIENCE

We wanted to build an app that incorporate features found in other social apps and integrate it to the Dingo! mobile app. This includes the ability to post your pet’s picture in a snap like Instagram. Enabling comments and direct messages from other users. GPS locations to find nearby parks and dogs in the area.

It also has featured dog and owner of the day. Users can easily connect with fellow Dingo! app users by quick

messaging and comments field. There is an option to meet in the house or at the park. This encourages owners to go out and take their furry friends to meet and go outside and play.

Version 1 Version 2 Version 3

Version 1 consist of round shapes. I wanted to give is a playful vibe by using rounded edges and shapes.

Second version was hand drafted. The outlines were tinted orange to give it a joyful feel.

Third composition of the logo shows the character of the brand. It uses a diagonal direction. It used solid color instead.

LOGO APP ICON

Version 1 Version 2 Version 3

The simplicity of this logo is what attracted me. The initial logo was going to look like this before development stage.

Having the complete name on the app logo will make it easier for users to remember the name.

This revision background was changed to orange to tie in with the theme.
