The legend, as told by the Latin writer Solinus , says that Caralis was founded by Aristaeus, son of the god Apollo and the nymph Cyrene, arrived in Sardinia from Boeotia in the fifteenth century BC about. Aristeo introduced in Sardinia hunt-ing and agriculture, brought peace between indigenous peoples in struggle with each other and founded the city of Cagliari, on which later reigned. According to some sources in Sardinia Aristeos was accompanied by Daedalus, who, accord-ing to the ancient Greeks, was the architect of the impressive works dedalee (the Nuraghes) on the island.

Cagliari, Sardinia’s capital since 1948, with more than 424,000 inhabitants is one of 15 metropolitan cities in Italy. Offers many typical restaurants along the streets of the Marina and shops for shopping lovers.

7Pula (Pauli de Nuras in medi-eval Sardinian), is an Italian town of 7,455 inhabitants in the province of Cagliari, in the region of Sulcis-Iglesias, south-west of the capital. Located near the ancient city of Nora, founded according to legend by the Iberians conducted in Sar-dinia by Norace. Nora was built by the Phoenicians around the eighth century BC probably on pre-existing settlements nur-agical of which there are some testimonials. In the following centuries the city was colonized first by the Carthaginians and

then by the Romans who raised it, for a short period, capital of the province of Sardinia and Corsica, and then give the charge to the nearby Caralis (modern Cagliari). After the end of the Roman Empire, like many other ancient coastal cit-ies of Sardinia, Nora ceased to exist because of the Saracen raids from the eighth century AD about. In the Middle Ages the area, then called Padulis de Nura, was part of the Judges of Cagliari and during the Span-ish-Aragonese period was giv-en to various feudal lords.

About 2 km long is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches on the island: the waters are crystal clear, shallow water, the contrasts of beautiful colors, all surround-ed by a unique natural landscape with dunes that rise up to 20 meters. The dunes are no longer walkable in order to preserve its integrity.

The islet Su Giudeu, within walk-ing distance, is located in the area called “S’Acqua Ucci”, an un-missable destination for lovers of snorkeling. In case of strong winds is not rec-ommended because of the fine sand and light.

The juniper and the Mediterrane-an vegetation envelop of a singu-lar charm this magnificent beach, which is considered among the most beautiful seaside resorts of Sardinia. The cove is fitted in that stretch of coastline from Capo Spartivento to Isola Ros-sa is a kind of “world apart” forthe succession of landscapes now

dominated by white sands, now by a formation of granite rocks and clay. The beach is very crowded during the high season and are advised to arrive no later than 9:00 am because the paid park-ing has limited seating. It offers an extraordinary experience even at lovers divers, given the beauty of the waters around the islet.

Extraordinary beach with white sand dunes and rich in vegetation among which magnificent juni-pers.It is a military zone, therefore, open only in high season and can only be reached by sea with your own boat or through organized excursions.

The spectacle of colors you will find here is irreproducible, giving the impression of plunging into a real pool.

In the area of Chia there are the small sandy cove Is Cardolinu and Cala del Morto, the first takes its name from the islet that emerges in front of the beach and within walking distance thanks to a strip of sand. The name of the second cove, instead, probably origin by the presence of a cross located between the rocks. To reach them you need to do a walking trail, parking the car near the beach Campana (for Cala del Morto) or near the Hotel Parco Torre Chia (for Is Cardolinu).

The beach of Camper is so named be-cause in the past it was frequented by many campers, currently it is not so be-cause of the ban on camping in all the beaches. All three coves are representa-tive of Sardinia surrounded by nature and emerald colors. It is advisable to avoid them in high season due to the large influx of people and little space is available. In any case, we recommend at least one excursion.

Sarroch

The building is of the type “tancato”, made up of an ancient tower that leans against a body of trapezoidal SSE limited to a smaller tower newer. The set is arranged in the di-rection WSW-ENE entrance to the sea. The entire building measuring 23.45 x 14.45 me-ters. The oldest tower shaped circular (diam-eter 10.15 m), can be stored for a maximum height of 8.10 m. The masonry consists of large blocks of porphyry, hewn and arranged in horizontal rows irregular. The entrance to the monument (0.72 x 2.00 m high), SW face, surmounted by a lintel fitted with finestrello exhaust. The corridor behind it, of 3.80 m in length, has a pointed section and increasing height towards the entrance to the room (the height changes from 2 m at the entrance to 5.60 am on the bottom).

From Sarroch follow the signs to the hill where there is the Nuraghe, which is ac-cessed via a path to walk for about 300 meters. The Nuraghe Sa Domu e s’ Orku, which stands on a hill a short distance from the sea, is not a monument isolated from other nuragical buildings, because many are the remains and traces of attendance from the Nuraghic Age. You can identify a belt of coastal towers placed on top of the hills that oversee along the Gulf of the Angels, including many in the territory of Sarroch.

It ‘clear that the complex of Nuraghe Sa Domu e s’ Orku and is part of the defen-sive circuit to protect the area of Cagliari from the enemy Phoenician, but inevita-bly the expansion of the new people led to the impoverishment of the indigenous and the expulsion inland. Of what also suffered the Nuraghic Age building which was partially demolished.Nevertheless, during the Roman period are proven periods of habitation of the place.

A stay in this beautiful area of southern Sardinia can be also an opportunity to ex-plore its surroundings and the wide variety of natural landscapes that surround it.The exploratory excursion proposed here leads us to discover a beautiful stretch of the south-western coast, located between the beaches of Santa Margherita, and a vast coastline of Chia. For the intrepid, you can start the walk directly from Eden Rock.

The route (about 7 km one way) fol-lowsamong Pinus and Chia Village, the route of the Roman road, dating from the fourth century AD, which connected the ancient settlements of Nora and Bithia: it alternates between some sections where it is still possible to see the ancient paved and with other thoroughly natural. It is easily covered by foot or by mountain bike (despite some particularly rough stretch) or on horseback.
