Welcome

Welcome to the Carver County 4-H Lama Project. We are one of the largest lama projects in the United States and

the Carver County Fair Show is larger than the Minnesota State Fair Lama Show.

It should answer many of your questions connected to the lama project.

Along with this Lama Project Guidebook, there is a project handbook written by Alumni 4-Her Nicole O’Sell that

will address the training process and more of what happens at the Carlson Llovable Llama Farm (CLL Farm). These

documents along with other resources will be addressed at various project meetings.

The objective of the Carver County Lama Project is to learn about lamas. You will learn about uses of lamas, how

to care for lamas, veterinary techniques, lama anatomy, how to train, groom, show and compete in the show ring

with your lama. The second very big objective is to make new friends and work with other people. The leasing of a

To help the Lama project comply with the required two screened adults present at 4-H activities, all

project member families are encouraged to have at least one adult be a 4-H screened adult volunteer.

The preferred adult would be the parent/ guardian that transports and works with the 4-Her at the

farm most of the time.

Parents of Cloverbuds and Juniors who lease their lama are required to work a 2-hr farm-work shift

with their 4-Her. Their 2 hours will be added to the Cloverbud’s/ Junior’s 2 hours for a total of 4 hours

which completes the 4-Her’s required 4 hours of farm work. See page 4 for more details.

FUNDRAISING The Carver County 4-H Lama Project will try to have some fundraising events to help offset some

other lama project costs (such as outside speakers, transportation, education materials, quiz

bowl, etc.) Such events may be selling notecards or other. This may include a t-shirt that is lama

project related for all the participants. Rick has created a Lama Compost self-serve station near

the road that runs in front of his farm. Buckets of composted manure can be purchased for $4 per

pail. Those that have lamas housed or being leased from Rick are required to help add manure to

this compost area throughout the summer. Specific instructions and assignments will be further

communicated via email and at lama nights. There are postcards available in the Extension Office

that 4-Hers and families can request to help promote this sustainable fundraiser.

LAMA LEASE AND IDENTIFICATION

Rick Carlson will lease a lama to 4-H youth who do not have one. The number of lamas owned by Rick is based around the number of 4-H youth participating in the project. Rick will purchase more lamas if needed, assuming there is reasonable time to find a quality animal worth purchase.

A 4-Her is not obligated to lease a lama from Rick Carlson to participate in the Carver County 4-H Lama Project. If a different leasing opportunity is available and useable to a 4-Her, they can lease from that party.

Some 4-Hers in the Lama Project own their own lamas. 4-Hers that own their own lamas are encouraged to participate in lama project nights with their lama. Prior to bringing your lama to the CLL Farm, please check with Rick Carlson.

At Carlsons Llovable Lamas, a lama will be assigned to you based on your and the lama’s abilities. As the owner and Project Coordinator, Rick has the final say in all pairings.

Once you have been assigned a lama, you may have the option to keep that lama for years to come. You may also have the option to change if one is available for you to change to.

Lamas can be leased to three 4-Hers at a time: a State Fair eligible youth (6th grade and older), junior (3rd-5th grade) and Cloverbud (K-2nd grade). Also, when a youth in a group advances to an older group, lama assignments may need to change. Generally, the older youth keeps the llama, but some assignments have been promised to a younger member to keep the lama once they graduate to a higher age class.

Youth who lease a lama from Rick are required to work four hours on the farm and attend a minimum two project nights.

NEW. Parents of Cloverbuds and Juniors are required to work a 2-hr farm-work shift with their 4-Her. Their 2 hours will be added to the Cloverbud’s/ Junior’s 2 hours for a total of 4 hours which completes the 4-Her’s required 4 hours of farm work. As in the past, Intermediates and Seniors are to complete their 4 hours of farm work themselves.

Lama’s leased from Carlson Llovable Llama farm need to be arranged directly with Rick Carlson. Lama assignments, leases and lease fee will be due to Rick Carlson by (CLL lama leases only). A lease fee will be required to offset the cost of caring for 70+ lamas. With that fee, Rick will cover all associated lama costs include: veterinary fees, feed, hay, supplies, halters, brushes etc. This Carlson specific deadline is in place to ensure the project begins running as early in the spring as possible. This also helps to ensure there is a llama assignment for each 4-Her that’s willing to commit to the project. It’s good to get started early and not have to deal with ‘housekeeping issues’ during the course of the project.

All lamas that attend any 4-H event need to be officially identified. Identification information and photos need to be entered in to the correct 4-Her’s 4-HOnline account by the May 15.

In order to officially lease a lama and be eligible for State Fair, premiums and champion placings at the Carver County Fair, 4-Hers need to officially ID and complete the Minnesota 4-H lease form and upload the document to their 4-HOnline account by the state deadline (May 15). This form is mailed to every 4-Her from the Extension Office in the spring, but can also be accessed on the Minnesota 4-H Animal Science webpage.

Lama Identification items include: Lama ID information, two photos of the lama and a lease form, if the lama is leased.

Leases need to be completed by the 4-Her and the leasing party.

It is the responsibility of the participating 4-Her to complete the 4-HOnline animal ID for their lama. The lease agreement must be added to the correct 4-Her’s 4-HOnline account by May 15. If you need access to a scanner, please ask the Extension Office for assistance.

The Extension Office has a photo catalog of 4-H lamas that are leased through CLL Farms. The Extension Office will upload your lama’s ID photos as long as all other ID information is completed in 4-HOnline by May 15.

If the May 15 deadline is not met, 4-Her will not be eligible for champion placings, premiums, or the State Fair.

Missed Deadlines: There is a one-time exemption that can be used by 4-Hers to acknowledge that they have missed a deadline and waive the attached consequences. The Extension Office recommends that families visit the Minnesota 4-H Policy page to learn more about and understand this policy as it relates to different projects and deadlines. This policy is included in livestock ID packets that are sent to all livestock project members.

OTHER LAMA INTERACTION OPPORTUNITIES This project has a lot of kids in it and the eventual goal is to compete at the County Fair. If

competition or a commitment to project nights isn’t something your 4-Her is ready for, Carlson’s

Llovable Llamas also has an Adopt-A-Llama program. This program still gives youth all of the

llama fun, but is done at your convenience. This would be a great alternative if it fits your plans

and schedule better.

LAMA PROJECT KICK-OFF MEETING The Lama Project will hold a lama project kick-off meeting on Sunday, March 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. at

Victoria Lions Park in Victoria. This meeting will be where 4-Hers and parents receive updated

schedules and announcements that are relevant to the 4-H year. Attendance is expected if your 4-

Her would like to participate in the project. Both 4-Hers and parents are encouraged to attend

this meeting. A sign-in sheet will be at the meeting as a way to document those in attendance.

LAMA PROJECT NIGHTS

Starting in April, project nights will be every Sunday evening at 6:00PM at the Carlson Llovable

Llama Farm. Project nights will rotate between older (Senior and Intermediate) and younger

(juniors and cloverbuds). Project nights operate this way out of necessity because 4-Hers in

different age groups don’t need to share the same lama. Project nights will be held rain or shine

except under extraordinary conditions. The annual schedule will be distributed during the March

lama meeting

Project nights will include lama education and the hands on topic for the night. Topics include:

training your lama, showmanship training, obstacle training, and grooming. Outside speakers

may also be involved in project nights. Many topics will be revisited throughout the summer as a

way to build on learning that has already taken place.

Much is gone over during project nights. 4-Hers and 4-Her volunteers are also present to lend a

hand and help out. Attendance at these project nights is very strongly encouraged. Attending

these meetings is the best way to stay informed on important Lama Project information, get your

questions answered, and get help with training your lama. Rick Carlson is willing to help outside

of these meetings. Please contact him prior to arriving at the farm to be sure he is available. 4-

Hers that aren’t leasing a lama from Rick may be allowed to bring their lama to the farm for

project nights, please check with Rick before doing this.

Parents are encouraged to also attend project nights to see and understand their 4-Her’s lama

project experience. It’s also valuable when distributing new and updated information.

CLL Farm is a working farm, so dress to get dirty. Wear older clothes and boots (or other closed

toed shoes). Boots are highly recommended as you will be in the pastures and will also encounter

rainy and muddy conditions. Also, be prepared for colder, rainy and windier conditions. You may

also want to bring some snacks and water if staying at the Farm for a while. Please remember to

bring all of these items back home. The lost and found pile gets big.

There is a clipboard by the cabinet in the barn with the sign-in sheets on it. All 4-H youth and

Volunteers are expected to sign-in each time you come to the CLL Farm. This shows 4-H, the

Extension office and the 4-H Program stakeholders the amount of activity in this project. This

translates to the importance and need for the program in the county.

Always keep safety in mind when working with animals. Lamas are very gentle animals, but are

still animals and sometimes are unpredictable. As a safety precaution, plan to work with your

lama when others are at the farm – come with a buddy or meet a buddy there. Parents of

Cloverbuds and Juniors should always be nearby/ within view when their 4-Her is working with

their lama at the farm. In accordance with the 4-H Risk Management Policy, two screened adults

need to be present during all 4-H project activities which includes at the farm when project 4-Hers

are working with their lamas. Please check to see if there are or will be two screened adults while

your 4-Her is at the farm before leaving them there.

Safety will be a topic covered at the first two lama project meetings at the CLL Farm. Always keep

in mind that if you lose control of the lama, just let it go. The lama will get caught and returned; it

is more important that no one is injured. Notify Rick Carlson of any incidents that occur.

There will be a lama assignment sheet on the inside cabinet door in the barn. It will list the lama name and who has that lama in the appropriate age categories. Also listed is the size of halter your animal uses. Halter use will be talked about at one of the first meetings.

Please leave halters and leads together.

Hand sanitizer and mosquito spray are available for 4-H use on the farm.

Don’t let lamas eat the flowers!!

When feeding apple treats, feed one at a time so they don’t spill on the grounds. Also, try to pick up dropped treats.

Clean-up after yourself-put away supplies, pick up and throw away fiber that fell while grooming your lama.

Only feed 1 scoop of grain to your llama. Overfeeding can cause serious digestive disorders.

Please keep the outdoor facilities neat and be respectful.

4-HER EXPECTATIONS Attendance is the biggest expectation. Be at your scheduled project nights and then go out

to Carlson Llovable Llama Farm as often as you can. You are welcome at any time. You should be able to catch your lama based on your training/animals skills. The more often you work with your lama, the better you will do in your project and the more fun you will have. You will also have more opportunities to mingle with the other kids and make more friends.

If leasing, to fulfill your lease agreement and be eligible to show at the County Fair, you are required to work four hours at the farm in addition to the time spent working with your lama, as well as, attend a minimum of two project nights.

You are also expected to treat your lama with respect. The better you treat your lama, the better the lama will get along with you.

You are expected to pick up your supplies and put them away when done. Lead ropes should remain attached to halters. Also, pick up brushed out wool and throw it in the garbage. Pick up any manure piles and put it in the barnyard. Double check all gates are closed behind you.

Older 4-Hers are expected, when available, to help out younger kids at their project nights.

Older 4-H’ers are expected to be involved in the maintenance of their lama (shearing, vaccinations, trimming hooves, etc.)

During Project Nights and llama learning you are expected to listen and NOT be disruptive.

There will also be community or lama events that many 4-Hers will be encouraged to help at. This provides youth the opportunity to teach the public about lamas while developing their 21st century public speaking skills.

While at all 4-H events and at the Carlson Llovable Llama Farm, 4-Hers are expected to follow the 4-H Membership Code of Conduct. All 4-Hers agree to follow this code of conduct when enrolled in the 4-H program each year. Be respectful of other 4-Her’s and be mindful about what is being posted on all types of social media and electronic devices.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS Parents should not do the project for the kids.

Parents should transport 4-Hers to lama events, provide support and help if needed.

Parents are encouraged to stay at the farm with their 4-Her, but should only leave their 4-Her at the farm if two screened adults are and will be present during their 4-Hers stay at the farm.

Parents are encouraged to provide constructive feedback on the project. Please be mindful of unconstructive conversations.

LIVESTOCK QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ETHICS All youth participating as a State Fair 4-H livestock exhibitor in beef, dairy, sheep, swine, poultry,

rabbits, meat and dairy goat and lama must have completed the Livestock Quality Assurance and

Ethics (LQA&E) workshop. Certification is to the county fair

qualifying show and is good for three fair seasons. If a 4-H’er does not have current certification

they cannot advance to the State Fair, no exceptions. The level of training required is determined

by the grade of the youth at the time the training takes place. The Carver County Extension Office

sends letters to all 4-H youth that are due for certification/re-certification. Carver County 4-Hers

can participate in a LQA&E Trainings in another county. The complete Minnesota 4-H LQA&E

4-H YOUTH RECORD KEEPING Record keeping encourages youth to reflect on their experience so they can share it with others

and learn. All 4-H members are encouraged to maintain Project Records on their projects.

CLOVERBUDS Cloverbuds are youth in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Cloverbuds are considered to be

project participants. All Cloverbuds are invited to be a part of the education and project nights

hosted on the Carlson’s Llovable Llama Farm. Cloverbuds will neither be in competition, nor get a

placing, but be encouraged and get participation ribbons. An older 4-Her or adult needs to be

with the Cloverbud and in control of the lama during the entire Carver County Fair, including

during the lama show. Parents of Cloverbuds and all 4-H screened volunteers are responsible for

being aware of and following the Minnesota 4-H Cloverbud Policy.

COUNTY FAIR 4-H COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITIES

All 4-Hers that plan to participate at the Carver County Fair are required to register their entries

for the county fair. .

The Carver County Fair 4-H Premium book will list schedules, rules and other helpful information

for 4-H fair entries. This list will become available in early summer. Printed copies can be attained

at the Extension Office or, they may also be accessed at the Carver County Extension website at

[under ] www.extension.umn.edu/county/carver

All Carver County Fair entry registrations are due in July. Carver County 4-Her will be completing

their county fair entry registrations online through the FairEntry website. This fair registration is

when you indicate what items and classes you plan to enter at the fair. This is separate and in

addition to general 4-H project enrollment in 4HOnline. For a complete list of project and class

descriptions, please refer to the Carver County 4-H Premium Book.

All Carver County 4-Hers that have paid their dues and are registered exhibitors at the Carver

County Fair through 4-H will receive a wristband to grant them free admission to the fair daily.

Wristbands and exhibitor tags can be picked up at the 4-H Fair Office on Tuesday during general

judging.

There is a Showmanship Class and a Performance Class. The Carver County Performance Class is

a combination of Obstacle and Public Relations.

All State Fair eligible exhibitors must also participate in a livestock interview.

Juniors and cloverbuds are highly encouraged to participate in a livestock interview. At the State

Fair level, it is required to participate in public relations, obstacle and showmanship classes as

well as livestock interview. For all eligible participants’ costume, lama poster and fiber classes are

optional at County and State Fair levels.

Guidelines: 1. Fiber must be from lama shown at county fair for the current year. 2. Fiber must be

from current year shearing. 3. Place 2-3 oz. of fiber from current year lama in a gallon bag and

submit Tuesday during general project judging. 4. Fiber exhibits will be divided into 3 divisions

junior, intermediate and senior. 5. All fleece exhibits will be returned with their scorecards.

Livestock project interviews are not as extensive as the other projects. A 4-H interview prior

to the show is conducted to gain an understanding of the exhibitor’s knowledge in the project.

The judge may or may not be the same person as the show ring judge.

Each exhibitor can do a livestock interview for the specie of their choice that they are showing.

Interviews are to be completed during project judging on Tuesday of the fair between 2:00 and

7:00 p.m. (there will be a sign up genius for specific interview times) in the show tent.

The dress code for classes is dark pants or dark jeans, white shirt (with sleeves), and dark, close-

toed shoes. 4-H’ers will also be assigned an exhibitors tag number that they are responsible for

having on during every class they participate in.

LAMA POSTER AND LAMA RELATED GENERAL PROJECTS offers the opportunity to study and learn about the lama. These are

the posters that are displayed in the 4-H Building at the county fair and during Lama Encampment

during the State Fair in the Compeer Arena. The poster may advance to the State Fair, but the 4-

Her does not earn a State Fair trip for the Lama Encampment.

Youth in this project explore the basics of animal science,

learn about different animal breeds, basic health and nutrition needs, animal behavior, life stages,

home safety for pets and more. No animal ownership required.

Learn about preventing disease and improving the health

of animals. This could be the start of a career as a vet! Topics include basic anatomy, health and

disease, normal and abnormal conditions, and preparing for veterinary careers.

DEMONSTRATIONS Demonstrations are a great way for 4-H youth to share their lama knowledge. Demonstrations

may or may not involve the use of a lama. If the demonstration includes a lama, it is considered a

livestock demonstration. Demonstrations provide 4-Her’s the opportunity to share the knowledge

and skills they have gained through the Lama Project. Ribbons, premiums, and State Fair trips can

be earned through demonstrations. County livestock demonstrations are held in July prior to the

County Fair. During the Lama Encampment at the State Fair, 4-Hers can earn larger premiums if

they engage in a livestock demonstration with their lama. (For Lama Encampment trip earners

only.)

4-H LAMA PROJECT BOWL Project Bowls are an exciting way for youth to explore the Lama Project area. Teams compete in

competitions with questions. The inaugural season was in 2015! Teams formed and began

practice in January, and will continue through April. The Lama Project Bowl teams have an

opportunity to compete at the State Project Bowl. We encourage and need help from other

parents. For more information about Lama Project contact the Extension Office.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT THE FAIR Intermediate and Senior Project members who have participated in the project for a minimum of

two years will be encouraged to sign up to take at least one shift during the Carver County Fair as

a member of the .

Goals of this team are to help the members get to know others in the project they might

not otherwise work with, gain leadership and team skills, provide a way for the older

members to have more ownership in the lama barn, and have a designated group as “go-to”

people in the building during the hours the building is open during the county fair.

Each day of the fair will be divided into four shifts which overlap –

7:30 - 11:30 a.m.; 11:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.; 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.; 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

On show day for the Int. /Seniors (Thursday), the 3:00 shift will stop an hour before the

show and the 6:30 shift will not begin until a half hour after the show finishes.

Each shift will have three (3) team members – preferably one (1) senior. A minimum of two

(2) of the members must be at least third-year project members that showed at the fair the

two previous years.

A maximum of two shifts per day may be worked by project members.

Sign-up for shifts will happen using a Sign-up Genius closer to the start of the fair.

On their designated shift, these building team leads will: Be visible in the barn or immediate surrounding area.

Wear a lanyard designating them as a member of the Lama Building Leadership Team.

Oversee, guide others, and help with herdsmanship duties.

Be the “go to” people for questions or concerns in the building.

Help members who are unable to get to the fair to do their daily chores when notified

by those members.

Assist Project Leaders with any duties assigned.

STALLING AT THE COUNTY FAIR Stalled lamas are to remain in the 4-H Lama Barn from 12pm Wednesday through 8pm

Sunday, unless excused with a written release from the Official Carver County Fair

Veterinarian. Lamas that are removed before 8pm on Sunday, without prior approval, will

result in their handler forfeiting their premium check and any state fair trip(s) earned.

4-H members are responsible for keeping their lamas fed and watered. They are to keep

their stall, tack stall and surrounding area clean and tidy. Your stall is not a place to store

items. If you are unable to care for your lama be sure to contact the barn leaders.

It is recommended that lamas be walked multiple times per day. This is to help keep them

active and become adapted to their environment.

o Please make sure that you are aware of the public when walking your lama.

o If your lama poops while on your walk, please make sure you go back to clean it up.

o No livestock allowed down Food Alley.

o No llamas allowed in any other buildings.

o Cloverbuds are not allowed to lead lamas at the Fair; however they can walk

alongside as long as their parent/ guardian or older 4-Her is in control of the

animal

o You may not let non-4-H’ers lead lamas.

o Please notify Rick Carlson and 4-H staff if any incidents occur with your lama while

at the Carver County Fair.

Stalls must be completely cleaned out and stripped of bedding before checking out on

Sunday between 8:00-10:00 p.m. everyone is expected to help.

4-H members assume liability of their tack and equipment left in the lama barn.

Please take all of your belongings home after the Carver County Fair.

HERDSMANSHIP CONTEST The purpose of the contest is to develop knowledge and skill in proper care, handling and housing

of animals on public exhibition. Herdsmanship should focus on teamwork, showing pride in

exhibits, learning to pick-up and take care of area, interacting with public, proper care and

treatment of animals (feed, water, animal and pens clean, animal health, etc.). Herdsmanship

should be a fun and educational activity.

Helpful Information:

1. The Lama Barn will to be open to the public by 8am and will stay open until 10pm.

a. From 7:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. there will be Barn leaders assigned.

2. 4-H project members are responsible to keep the Lama Barn, stalls and walkways clean and

presentable during the Carver County Fair, examples include:

a. No feed pans or buckets in stalls.

b. Clean water in stalls.

c. Isles / walkways swept and clean.

d. Clean animals, free of manure stains.

e. Open tack spaces should be organized and free of clutter and hay/straw.

3. If you are sharing your lama with another 4-Her, please communicate to ensure top notch

herdsmanship is achieved as well as with others who share the same stall.

4. 4-Hers are encouraged to interact and accurately educate the visiting public about their

lama project. Please be kind, courteous and respectful at all times.

5. The Carver County Fair is a public event. 4-H members and their families are expected to

be respectful, courteous and aware of the public at all times. Please represent Carver

County 4-H in a positive way at all times.

6. Watch for additional information to be released closer to the fair.

STATE FAIR LINE UP The State Fair Line Up will be determined by how well a 4-Her and their lama performs on the day

of the Carver County Fair show. The order and placing of 4-Hers in Showmanship and

Performances classes are determined by the judge hired for the show. All judges’ decisions are

final. Due to the large number of youth in the Carver County 4-H Lama Project, only State Fair

eligible youth are included in the lineup.

First Trip: Senior Showmanship Champion

Second Trip: Senior Obstacle Champion

Third Trip: Intermediate Showmanship Champion

Fourth Trip: Intermediate Obstacle Champion

Fifth Trip: Senior Showmanship Reserve Champion

Sixth Trip: Senior Obstacle Reserve Champion

Seventh Trip: Intermediate Showmanship Reserve Champion

Eighth Trip: Intermediate Obstacle Reserve Champion

Ninth Trip and Beyond – Pattern repeats until the number of available trips are filled.

4-Hers earning a State Fair trip can only be on the list once because they can only take one trip to

the State Fair. However, at the State Fair they will participate in the three required classes (Public

Relations, Obstacles and Showmanship). Duplicate spots will be filled within the same class and

age group. Please refer to the below visual as an example of how the State Fair line up may form

during the Carver County Fair.

STATE FAIR TRIP ELIGIBILITY MN 4-H determines the number of State Lama Project trips for each county. Carver County state

fair trip winners are determined by a State Fair Line Up. The State Fair line up is determined by

the placing 4-Hers earn in 4-H Lama Show at the Carver County Fair. All decisions by the judge

are final.

Eligibility:

1. Must be a 4-H member, grade 6 (completed) and older.

2. All Carver County deadlines met:

a. Actively enroll in 4-H Lama Project by May 15th.

b. Turn in copy of Lama ID and any lease forms by May 15th.

c. Turn in 4-H Carver County Fair Entry Form by July 2nd.

d. Have current Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics certification prior to the State

Fair qualifying show.

e. Successfully register for the State Fair at the Carver County Fair on the Sunday of

the Fair.

4-H Cloverbuds do the same projects as older 4-Hers, but in a way appropriate to

their age (kindergarten through second grade). Cloverbuds explore and learn about the world in a

non-competitive environment by doing fun activities of their own choice.

The Costume Class is not mandatory. The class is for fun and is a great

opportunity to draw the public to a greater understanding of the Lama Project. Different themes

could be adopted such as sports, story book characters, South American themes, etc. Judging

criteria should include: theme connection between handler and lama, originality, training, time,

energy involved, etc. The handler is also in costume. Costume class is held on Saturday of the fair

for ALL age classes.

Obstacle is to demonstrate the well-trained lama’s obedience and willingness to

complete the requested activities. This simulates a trail walk.

Performance classes are designed to present or similar conditions and

obstacle that would be encountered in certain situations when lamas are requested to perform.

These classes should demonstrate the intelligence and versatility of the lama. In Carver County,

the Obstacle and Public Relations Classes are combined to create one Performance Class. The

dress code for the performance class is dark pants or dark jeans, a white shirt with sleeves, and

closed toed shoes.

Public Relations is for the animal to simulate community activities, going

to school, hospitals, service clubs, parades, charity functions, children’s homes and rehabilitation

therapy with a variety of patience, television, or other media appearances for promotion.

This class is used to demonstrate the handler’s ability to show an animal to its

best advantage at halter. The dress code for a showmanship class is dark pants, a white shirt with

sleeves, and dark, closed toed shoes.

For this class you must have fiber from this year’s cut from a lama that will be

shown at this year’s county fair. Have 2-3 oz of fiber placed in a gallon bag for judging. This class

will allow youth to learn about how to manage fiber. More information will be in the premium
