Happy New Year 4-Her’s! As I think back over the last year and what this organization has accomplished I think how lucky I am to have such wonderful volunteers to work with. With all the time and effort you put in Langlade County 4-H would not be what it is today. As we move forward into 2017 I’m excited to see the changes that will occur, and with the help and support from all of you, its bound to be an exciting year in 4-H! The Antigo Optimist Club sponsored a $50.00 grand prize to the best 4-H Club Holiday Card displayed at the Peaceful Valley Festival Grounds. judging took place on Friday Dec 16. All Holiday cards were beautiful!, keep up the excellent work 4-Hers!

4-H VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Our 4-H Volleyball season is quickly approaching.

If you do not have a team to join, That’s Ok! We will be

forming teams when youth arrive!

Type Rules

Speech

Developed by the member who is presenting it. Should be memories, with notes

used only as a reminder. Topic can be 4-H related, or any topic. No posters or props

may be used. Time limit: 5 minutes.

Interpretive

Reading

Selections may be prose, poetry, original, or a selected reading. If not an original

reading, the author should be credited. Reading should not be memorized. All read-

ers should use full-sized copies of their selections. No note cards. Time limit: 5 min-

utes.

Dynamic

Duos

Selections may be original or a selected reading. Performed by a team of two 4-H

members, of any combination of ages. This is an Interpretative Reading (same rules

apply), consisting of a dialogue for two. No podium will be provided. Time limit: 10

minutes

Choral/Group

Readings

Selections may be original or a selected reading. Performed by a team of three or

more 4-H members, of any combination of ages. This is an Interpretative Reading

(same rules apply), consisting of a dialogue for all members No podium will be pro-

vided. Time limit: 10 minutes

Demonstrations

Show others what you have learned in a project or other activity. A planned presen-

tation that puts words into action. It is a step-by-step presentation showing how to

do something, or illustrated talk. May use charts/posters to help explain an idea or

procedure. May also use Power Point. Must provide own computer.

Story

Telling

Storyteller must sit in a chair. Story must be memorized. The story can be any chil-

dren’s story or other appropriate story. The story does not have to be written by the

youth. Entrants can select their own story. Costumes and props are not permitted.

Time limit: 5 minutes.

Reminders:

Introductions should include the title of the story, reading, speech, or demonstration, and why you se-

lected it.

Contestants will be judged on confidence in narration, voice, stage presence, and general effect.

Of the Month

Elcho Explorers 4-H Club spent time this December

spreading Christmas Cheer!

The Club decorated over 200 Christmas sugar cookies and

packed them up in 30 boxes with homemade ornaments for the

Elcho Senior meal site.

The Langlade County 4-H invites you and a friend to participate in Project Discovery Day.

Sessions are being offered at 9:00 am and 10:30am (see other side for details) .You may

sign up for one or two sessions. Choose a 1st and a 2nd choice. Plan on and pay for your

first choice. If spots are filled, we will notify you of a change. Send in the registration slip by

February 3rd to ensure that you get your choice in activities. Sessions are filled on a first

come, first served basis. Registrations will not be accepted without payment. Refunds will

not be available for youth who do not attend. Call-in registrations will not be accepted.

Class A (9:00-10:15) Crocheting with Pat Come learn the basics of Crocheting 10 Youth max 3rd grade & up Cost: None

Class F (9:00-10:15) Exploring the Dog project Cloverbuds will be working with stuffed animals, learning dog commands and basic handling skills within the dog project. 8 Youth K-2nd grade Cost: None

Class C (9:00-10:15) Shrinky Dinks & Snowflake Scarf Youth will design the scarf using snowflakes as a stencil, youth will then spray fabric paint in the scarf. We will also be coloring shrinky dinks! 10 Youth max All ages/grades Cost: None

Class D (9:00-10:15) Embroidery Come learn the basics of Embroidering, you will choose a piece to embroider and keep your hoop! 10 Youth max 3rd grade & up Cost: $3.00

Class E (9:00-10:15) Cupcake Decorating Youth will be decorating 3 cupcakes, come learn new ideas and tricks! 10 Youth max K-2nd grade Cost: $5.00
