We will use many everyday items and transform them into works of art! There will be a few set projects with a lot of ideas and a lot of materials to work with. Children will be allowed to be creative each in their own way – no “same project” artwork here! We will offer the pottery wheel every day along with clay hand building, decoupage, silk painting, glass fusing and much more. Come for multiple weeks and never do the same project twice! Learn techniques—lace, stamping, sponging, bubbles! Explore the world of mosaics where we learn that nothing old or broken has to be thrown away. Bring in grandmom’s old china mug from home and turn it into a piece of treasure you could even pass down in the family! Campers will be grouped by ages based on registration each week. Want to learn to create images of decorative art using small pieces of colored glass and tiles to create a pattern or picture? We will introduce you to the joy of creating art and learning a new way to express yourself. Please bring a glass or ceramic item (plate/cup) to also use in your mosaic for personalization. Take some large, stiff, bright paper; cut and fold it to make a crazy giant bird mask, then deck it out with sequins and feathers; make modeling clay turtles and hedgehogs and then make a diorama world for

One-born with emer-ald green skin-is smart, fiery, and misunderstood; the other is beautiful, ambitious, and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding musi-cal in years. 410-386-3580 Hashawha and Bear Branch Nature Center are located just north of Westminster, off Rt. 97 at 300 John Owings Road. The Nature Center is open year round. Hours of operation are Wednesday-Saturday 11am-5pm, and Sunday 12pm-5pm. The Nature Center staff can be contacted by phone or email [email protected]. All Nature Center pro-grams require pre-registration, unless otherwise noted. Groups MUST schedule programs directly with the Nature Center. Hashawha’s trails are open to the public from dawn until dusk 365 days a year. Parking is only available at Lake Hashawha or Bear Branch Nature Center. There is no entrance fee for the park. PLEASE NOTE: The Hashawha Environmental Facility is not open to the public except through reservation. Please do not enter the Ha-shawha gates or the posted restricted areas. For more information about group rentals of the facility, contact the Hashawha staff at 410-386-3560 or [email protected]. In case of inclement weather… should inclement weather be in the forecast, please call the Nature Center before coming to your program to check and see if it has been cancelled or postponed. ON THE PATUXENT RIVER June 28 1 session Tuesday

Program #11BB42 Join as we head to Jug Bay on the Patuxent River to spend the day learning all about the “fish hawk” with Naturalist, Greg Kearns. For over 20 years, Greg has banded osprey chicks each spring in the Chesa-peake region. During this incredible trip, you will have the chance to get up close and personal with these birds, as well as help collect and record important banding data. Bring water, hat/sunglasses, sun-screen, and a camera. Fee includes transportation, admission, boat tour, and riverside picnic lunch. Age: 14-adult.

Program #11PR39 The Brandywine River flows through some very beautiful countryside lo-cated in historic Brandywine valley of Pennsylvania and Northern Dela-ware, home to many famous people throughout history. Our paddle will take us through the grounds of the famous artist N.C. Wyeth and one of the DuPont estates. We will stop along the way at a beautiful pebbled beach to have a picnic lunch of fried chicken, potato salad, and assorted snacks (provided) and to rest as well as enjoy the scenery. The trip leader is the former naturalist of Brandywine Creek State Park and will be able to pro-vide interesting facts about the history and scenery along the way. We will place 2 people per canoe (provided). Age: 15-adult. Meet at Piney Run Boat Trailer Parking Lot.

Tot Camp is held at in the Community Building at the Westminster Municipal Pool and is designed for children ages 3-5, who must be potty trained. Camp is 9-11:30am and costs $60 per week.

Presented by Charm City Run, this 8-week program is designed to prepare runners/walkers of all ability levels for The 2011 New Bal-ance Baltimore Women’s Classic 5K. Fun, inexpensive and sup-portive workouts that encourage women to embark on a lifelong program of fitness. Additionally, every week we will l have speak-ers on a variety of fitness and nutrition related topics. Training is broken into 4 groups (beginner & intermediate walkers and runners) depending on your own goals and physical condition. REFUND POLICY

Classes: Requests for full refunds must be received by phone at our office at least 10 days prior to the starting date of the course. Session refunds may be given for withdrawal requests made after that date at the discretion of Recreation and Parks. No refunds will be issued after two sessions. No refunds will be issued for courses meeting only one or two sessions. Bus Trips: Requests for full refunds must be received by phone/in person at least 1 month prior to the date of the trip unless there is a specific date listed in the course description. After the deadline has passed, there will be NO refunds and any tickets purchased are the property of the registrant. CANCELLATION POLICY: Carroll County Recrea-tion and Parks reserves the right to cancel any course at its discretion. In case of cancellation, a full refund will be given within 10-14 business days. INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: When Carroll County Public Schools are closed or close early due to weather or other emergency conditions, Carroll County Rec-reation & Parks programs are canceled for that day. For weekend/non-school days, once the Snow Emergency Plan is in effect for Carroll County, no Recreation & Parks activi-ties take place.
