Mayco Stoneware glazes offer depth, sophistication, and reliability to artists working from mid-range to high fire temperatures. The palette is varied in color and finish with mattes and glossy bright colors, breaking glazes as well as complex float surfaces. Our stoneware glazes have a firing range of Cone 6-10. Always test your chosen glaze combination before applying all over to piece. Visit our website to see Cone 10 reduction results.

Stoneware OpalsThese additions to the Mayco Stoneware glaze line will

delight clay artists with diversity of color and unique finishes. Opals offer bright, pastel shades that will change

in opacity and depth of color with each layer applied.

Stoneware IceMayco’s Ice Glazes are translucent in design, based on

the Celadon aesthetic in pottery. Use these elegant glazes on heavily textured surfaces, over slips, with

Underglazes or in combinations.

Other Wash Uses

SW-305Cobalt Wash

SW-002 Matte Clear fires to a satin matte

finish at mid-range temperatures and will

perform up to cone 10. Perfect for layering

techniques and slip or when Underglazes

are used.

SW-003 Crackle Matte Clear is developed

for mid-range firing temperatures where a fine

crackle pattern will develop with three coats.

Fired to cone 5/6. Crackle pattern may not

develop at higher cone 9/10 temperatures.

SW-001 Stoneware Clear adds a brilliant

clear, smooth gloss finish to your work. Apply

to soft-fired bisque (cone 04-06) and fire

to cone 5/6 or up to cone 10. Can also be

applied to dry green-ware for a single firing.

Mayco’s Stoneware Washes are a multi-purpose product with limitless possibilities. These washes can be used alone for staining techniques or with

any glaze from low-fire up to cone 10. They are beautiful in oxidation or reduction and can expand the glaze palette for an artist or teacher. Our

washes are metallic glazes colorants formulated for ease of use and versatility.

• Fuming Paint a wash on a kiln post and place that post close to a piece of your work in the kiln (use a clean piece of old shelf under the post, in case of running). When the kiln reaches maturity, the colors in the wash may FUME onto your piece. The result is a flash of subtle color.

• Tinting Use wash to tint an existing glaze, slip or Underglaze by mixing them before application.

• Image Transfer Apply Iron Wash to a black and white image from your home printer. The ink will resist the wash and you will have a transferable iron picture to put on your piece. You can use a glaze as the vehicle to move the image onto your piece. This technique is available in further detail in our Project Library.

• Create a Dendritic Slip As seen in Mochaware, a denrditic slip often uses vinegar and tobacco to create diffusion between the materials when applied to a wet Underglaze or Engobe. Mayco Washes can be used to color the dendritic slip.

• Use wash by itself as a stain.

Apply a watered-down version of the wash to a bisque-fired piece. (This

effect is especially nice for textured ware). Allow the stain to get into all

the low spots and let the wash dry thoroughly. (Our washes contain a flux

which will fire to a slight shimmer). After the piece is completely dry, use

a wet sponge to wipe away the wash from high areas and let it remain in

low areas. Mayco washes can be fired alone without any glaze over-top or

apply an optional translucent or clear glaze over-top for a gloss finish.

• Use in combination with other Mayco Stoneware glazes

Dilute our concentrated washes with a little water. Apply to bisque ware

with a liner brush or a sponge for textured effects. Let dry completely.

Then, apply your chosen Mayco stoneware glaze over-top, 1-3 coats

depending on desired results. Where the wash was applied, glaze

movement and fluidity often increases. Be aware of this as areas with

wash close to the bottom of the ware will run. When using Mayco washes

in combination with our other glazes, avoid applying washes near

bottom of your artwork.

Clay based and heavily pigmented, use Designer Liner to create fine detail with lines, dots, and letters. The metal writer tip allows for ultimate control to draw ultra-fine or bold lines, typography and intricate illustrations. Best used under non-moving transparent or semi-transparent glazes.

Fires 06-6. Certified AP Non-toxic and Food Safe.
