Dear Parents/Caregivers,
The teaching staff at Carramar PS are embracing the latest Department Of Education
strategy “Every student is known, valued and cared for”.
This strategy involves 9 key focus areas to support the initiative. It includes
“Relationships”: teachers will be involved in professional learning around this to deepen
their knowledge and understanding around the importance of teachers being able to
acknowledge and leverage from student strengths, create a sense of belonging and
connect with meaningful relationships with students.
Get well Khaled: It was a pleasure to visit Khaled of 5/6B last week
and see his recovery is well underway. He had to undergo a serious
operation to remove one of his kidneys that didn’t function properly. He
continues with dialysis and now awaits a kidney donor to enable the next
major operation; transplant the donor kidney. Miss Fabian and Mr
Sullivan also visited him and reported that he is in good spirits and
misses his friends. We send our best wishes to him and are thinking of
him.
Walk Safely To School: Miss Holland with the support of the SRC congratulated all
students who walked safely to school last Friday with a token and sticker. It’s a reminder
that all students should think about how they walk to and from school every day.
New Buddy Bench: Thank you to our Parent Group who funded our new buddy bench. It
looks great and we are confident it will help students in the playground with their
socialising.
How does the Buddy Bench work?
If you choose to sit on the Buddy Bench you must say “Yes” to
the first friend who invites you to play or walk and talk.
If you see a friend when you are sitting on the Buddy Bench
invite them to play or walk and talk.
Two friends sitting on the Buddy Bench can turn to each other
and invite each other to play or walk and talk.
Preschool Safety Issue
The Director of the Preschool located at the back of the school has
informed me that some of our students are exiting our back gate and
then walking through the preschool carpark. This is UNSAFE. I ask
all students, even those accompanied by parents to use the walkway
along the side fence; please keep out of the carpark.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) was completed by
all students in Years 3 and 5 last week. We again completed the paper test this year and
did not participate in the online version. This has been a school decision to not take on
the online version just yet. Congratulations to our students who attempted the
assessments to the best of their ability in a calm and well prepared manner. Student
results will be sent home sometime in Term 3.
School Uniform.
With the cold weather arriving it is important to ensure your child’s clothing is clearly
labelled with your child’s name and class. Students often remove jumpers and jackets
when the day warms up and if these items are misplaced, returning them to their owner is
impossible if they do not have a name on them.
Canteen Reminder. It is important that parents and students place all orders before
9am, late orders can be taken up until 9:10am. Orders after this time may be
limited/restricted to certain items. This is another reason why arriving at school before
the 9am bell is important.
Too sick for school?
As the cold weather hits, so do the winter bugs. It’s often hard to know
whether to send your child to school or let them stay home to recover,
especially when that means an adult cancelling work. For safety's sake, if
your child seems unwell you should always keep them home from school and
seek medical advice.

From the Office Thank you to all parents who returned
envelopes for school photo orders. Photo day
is always a busy, and sometimes crazy day,
with changes to routines and office staff
ensuring photo orders are processed
correctly.
It is made much easier when the orders and
money are returned on time and it is a day
when paying by the due date is extremely
important. It is a good opportunity to once
again ask parents to be sure to check their
children’s bags each day, make note of the
due date for payment and return to school
on time. By following these steps we can
ensure activities run smoothly and no child
misses out on the activity or excursion.
Please label your child’s belongings so we are
able to return lost property to the owner
quickly. Items such as hats, jackets, jumpers,
lunch boxes and drink bottles are the usual
lost items.
