carnival in spain
DESCRIPTION
Introduction to the Spanish CarnivalTRANSCRIPT
The carnival is a public celebration that takes place immediately before the Christian Lent, with variable date (late
January to early March in the year), and combines elements such as costumes, parades and street parties.
The origin of its conclusion seems likely to pagan celebrationsin honor of Bacchus, the god of wine, the Saturnalia and Lupercalia
Roman, or those that were held in honor of the bull Apis in Egypt. According to some
historians, the origins of this festival date back to ancient Sumeria and Egypt over 5,000 years ago, with very similar celebrations
in the Roman Empire, where the custom was expanded by Europe, being brought to America by Spanish explorers
and Portuguese in the fifteenth century.

TÍPICAS TRADICIONES DE CARNAVAL
•Miércoles de Ceniza: Ash Wednesday
•Domingo de Piñata: Piñata Sunday
EL ENTIERRO DE LA SARDINA
There are a lot of histories than try to explain the origen of this celebration on Ash Wednesday we are going to know about two fo them….
The origin of this curious parade is the time of King Carlos III, who decided during an Ash Wednesday we had to banish the flesh to fulfill Lent time. With this finality the King organized a party at the Opera Square and sent for succulent sardines to fight hunger . However, that was a very sunny day and the sun made the sardines began to decompose to the point that the stench of fish prevented digest.
The common people are not resigned to this adverse circumstance, and then they organized a mock funeral and all went in procession to "La Casa de Campo", near the Fuente de la Teja, to bury and dispose of smelly load.
At first it was associated with the custom of burying a rack of pork which was called sardine, symbolizing the prohibition against eating meat during the days of Lent, some people believe that the burial of the sardine was a way of attracting abundance of fish and fertility of animals before a new cycle of reproduction just before spring and saying goodbye to the winter.
The Burial of the Sardine is a event full of irreverence, ambiguous characters and roles reversed and expressions of relaxation where you can see man dressing as widows and crying to the sardine, priest and monk and other extrange characters that go with the sardine in a parade for a lot of towns in Spain and finish with the burning of the sardine.
