Headteacher’s News Carlton In Snaith Community Primary School Newsletter Friday 17th February 2017 Welcome to this week’s newsleer – the last before the February half term break. How did that happen? It’s hard to believe we are already half way through the school year. Thanks for your connued support of our school. I’m really proud of the children and team, and the direcon we are moving as a school. I was pleased to have Mrs Pearson, School improvement advisor visit school on Thursday – she also observed lots of posive aspects and development in our school. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the work ethic around school this week as I have been vising classrooms. There have been lots of pleasing things to see around school. It has also been one of those weeks with lots of enforced changes – sadly some staff absence (Mrs Whisker and briefly Mrs Taylor), change of arrangements for trips and visitors to name just a few. Fortunately everything has worked out well and as usual, our team have been brilliant, flexible and supporve, making sure the children have the best we can provide. Notably we were disappointed on Tuesday that our friends form Drax PowerStaon had some technical issue with their visit with the ‘Biodome’ forcing a postponement with this experience – a new date will be set and shared with you soon. We look forward to working with Drax PowerStaon in the forthcoming weeks! My personal highlights of the week: I’ve been learning about ‘how to wash a woolly mammoth’ in Amethyst classroom (Miss Stafford’s Year 4 class), learning about Polar bear facts with Topaz (Mrs Smith’s recepon and Y1 class) and ‘Soaking up’ a materials science lesson with Ruby (Mrs Taylor’s Year 1&2 class) with Mr Brooks. We enjoyed welcoming our Friends from Kings’ church Selby into assembly this week too At the me of wring I am really looking forward to the Musical Special Menons assembly on Friday aſternoon. So many children who play instruments have put themselves forward to perform in front of the school. Some singing, some playing solos, and some ensemble performances too – it should be a lovely occasion. I love the fact that we have a budding group of musicians and so many talented singers too – it is a real strength of our school. Thanks to Mrs Smith for organising. Newsletter

Friday 17th February 2017

Welcome to this week’s newsletter – the last before the February half term break. How did that happen?

It’s hard to believe we are already half way through the school year. Thanks for your continued support

of our school. I’m really proud of the children and team, and the direction we are moving as a school. I

was pleased to have Mrs Pearson, School improvement advisor visit school on Thursday – she also

observed lots of positive aspects and development in our school.

I’ve really enjoyed seeing the work ethic around school this week as I have been visiting classrooms.

There have been lots of pleasing things to see around school. It has also been one of those weeks with

lots of enforced changes – sadly some staff absence (Mrs Whisker and briefly Mrs Taylor), change of

arrangements for trips and visitors to name just a few. Fortunately everything has worked out well and as

usual, our team have been brilliant, flexible and supportive, making sure the children have the best we

can provide. Notably we were disappointed on Tuesday that our friends form Drax PowerStation had

some technical issue with their visit with the ‘Biodome’ forcing a postponement with this experience – a

new date will be set and shared with you soon. We look forward to working with Drax PowerStation in

the forthcoming weeks!

My personal highlights of the week: I’ve been learning about ‘how to wash a woolly mammoth’ in

Amethyst classroom (Miss Stafford’s Year 4 class), learning about Polar bear facts with Topaz (Mrs

Smith’s reception and Y1 class) and ‘Soaking up’ a materials science lesson with Ruby (Mrs Taylor’s Year

1&2 class) with Mr Brooks.

We enjoyed welcoming our Friends from Kings’ church Selby into assembly this week too

At the time of writing I am really looking forward to the Musical Special Mentions assembly on Friday

afternoon. So many children who play instruments have put themselves forward to perform in front of

the school. Some singing, some playing solos, and some ensemble performances too – it should be a

lovely occasion. I love the fact that we have a budding group of musicians and so many talented singers

too – it is a real strength of our school. Thanks to Mrs Smith for organising.

I am also looking forward (I think!) to tonight’s sleepover in school for our Year 6 Sapphire Class. Mrs

Longfield has organised what should be a really special themed evening for our brilliant year 6 class. It

says a lot about the class that so many children want (and are able) to attend. It also says a lot about Mrs

Longfield and the other staff who are participating that they are willing to spend the first night of the

holidays in school with the children over night!

A chance to say Thank you to Mrs Short

On Wednesday it was lovely to see Mrs Short in school. A year ago this week, Mrs Short went off on

maternity leave, and as I have explained previously, is not returning to Carlton In Snaith CPS, and instead

is concentrating on her family at this point. We wanted to give Mrs Short an appropriate send off so

invited her in to a special assembly to say a huge THANK YOU for all she has done for the school. Mrs

Short received a special red book mention, some gifts and also lots of class cards and best wishes

messages from all of the children. On behalf of the whole school team (past and present) again I would

like to acknowledge and thank Mrs Short for all of her hard work, skill, commitment and energy she has

given for the children of our school. She is welcome back anytime!

Attendance competition On Monday in assembly I shared with the children the update of this half term’s attendance competition. Last week’s best attendance went to Ruby class with 97% and 5 points (two points for their attendance and a bonus 3 for having the highest percentage in school). Emerald class are still in the lead with 19 points, with Ruby (12) and Sapphire (11points) following. Well done Emerald! At the end of the first week back we will be adding up the points and including an extra point for individuals who have had excellent and/or full attendance over the time frame. That could mean everything - Who will win this half term’s competition?

Next week and beyond

Next week is half term holidays – children are due back on Monday 27th February

The first week back after the break is our school book week. See further information in the

newsletter from Mrs Taylor about the event. A reminder that it is character dress up day on Friday

3rd March. That afternoon we will hold our traditional character parade and coffee afternoon – all

welcome to join us!

We look forward to welcoming (and welcoming back) some children and families to our school.

Unfortunately we also have family leaving us as they move away - we wish them well!

Our Good to Be green celebration afternoon will be held on Wednesday 1st March as the children

have reached and passed our school total of 50 Green leaves – this will be a lovely way to celebrate

positive behaviour in school.

We will be holding our special mentions assembly on Thursday 2nd March (rather than Friday –

because of Character dress up day) – invites have been sent out today.

For further information please remember to check out our school website:

www.carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk

As always thank you to our school team for all of their hard work and efforts over the past 7 weeks. Thank you too for taking

time to read our newsletter and for your support. Happy Holidays! I hope you all have a very happy and healthy half

term break – see you back in school on Monday 27th February.

Regards and best wishes

Jon Watson, Head teacher
