the land, because that’s where everything starts.

I moved to Perth about 4 years ago from the

UK. On first impressions Perth was more like

a big country town than a city, I love Perth

in the summer, when I think the city is at its

best. It is really hard to beat the world class

beaches, the extremely clean air and continuous

beautiful weather. The city is slowly but surely

transforming in front of our eyes and it is getting

better and better I believe Perth has so much to

offer and is a fantastic, safe place to live.

from a diverse range of disciplines including:

• Law and Legal Support

• Anthropology and Archaeology

• Natural Resource Management

• Community Liaison and Engagement

• Finance and Administration

• Communications

• Human Resources and Corporate Services

“My job as Community Liaison Officer with YMAC

lets me give back to the Port Hedland community

and is something I’ve always wanted to do. I

have a drive and passion to work for and with

Indigenous people, and I always want to do more.

I’m still learning the ropes and I continue to learn

more on a daily basis. Every day is a challenge

and you have to enjoy it!”

Jerry Maher - Community Liaison Officer.

“Hands down the best things about living in the

regions are the people and the landscape. There is

so much to love, the rugged beauty of the outback,

Karijini, Kalbarri, Millstream... the best camping

trips ever! The open country, kangaroo tail cooked

in the river sand, the white beaches of Geraldton,

snorkelling in Coral bay and Exmouth.

Living in the region is entirely what you make of it.

Be open minded and resolve to make the most of

your time there. Embrace the people (you will

meet some wonderful people) and their cultures.”

Maimbo Chilala - Lawyer

“While I was at YMAC I met a diverse range of

people. This included Indigenous people, fellow

interns from around the country, recent graduates

and lawyers with over 20 years experience...it is the

relationships that I formed while I was at YMAC that

I will remember for the longest time. It was these

that made the work all the more enjoyable, and no

doubt the whole experience more rewarding as a

whole.” - Alexis Hall, Aurora Program InternMalgana Country

The nearby Abrolhos Islands which are situated just off of the

coastline are a great day trip from Geraldton . You can also head

inland for the renowned wildflower season which is in full

bloom from July to November .

South HedlandSouth Hedland and Port Hedland are situated on the traditional

lands of the Kariyarra people .

South Hedland was once seen as a transient town but in recent

years the unique beauty of the area, the lifestyle opportunities

and community spirit have encouraged many people to make

this town their permanent home .

Easy access to the ocean provides for a variety of leisure

activities, whales and nesting flatback turtles can also be seen in

season . Most importantly, the community spirit and the people

are what make South Hedland so special .
