OCC & IVC
Both schools provide hands on CTE programs that involve applied learning taught by professionals in the industry
Students are taking what they learn in the classroom and applying it at their internships
Students are fascinated at how prepared they are for their internships and job placement
Students are working in the industry and many big name companies in Southern California are seeking students from both OCC and IVC’s CTE programs
Counselors report that although many CTE students decide to transfer and attend a four year university there is a large majority (more than half) that are finding job placement directly after completion of their program
Placement is due to the success of the programs and applied knowledge that student are learning
Many students feel that the internships that are either required or encouraged in all programs helps lead to job placement
OCC & IVC
Both schools provide programs that include the latest technology and equipment in their field
Technology and equipment is either provided by grants sought out from the departments or donated directly from working professionals/companies in the industry
Each pathway has a committee that is required to meet with professionals in the industry once a year. During these meetings they re-vamp the curriculum and sometimes re-name the pathway in order to better prepare the students for immediate job placement.
Both schools claim that all CTE programs are providing education and applied learning that coincides with the professional career in today's economy.
Programs offered are meeting the demands of careers needed in today's economy.
OCC

OCC & IVC CTE programs are open to all students Students apply directly to the college and select classes that
are offered in a particular CTE pathway There are very little pre-requisites therefore students are able
to immediately enroll in classes that apply hands on learning There is no general education required so students enroll in
classes that are directly related to their CTE pathway Students only take general education classes if they intend on
transferring to a four year university or receiving an Associates Degree in their particular CTE pathway
Fees for CTE classes are the same as general education classes with the exception of material fees
Students enrolled in CTE programs are eligible to apply for financial aide
Many CTE classes are offered in the evening or late afternoon to provide accommodations for both the working professional and students in internships
CTE classes are limited meaning there are not several sections offered for one class therefore students need to enroll early and be flexible with their schedule
OCC
Does not have a CTE counselor on staff but all counselors are knowledgeable of CTE pathways and class selections
Students gain priority registration based on their credit count (not including any withdrawals)
All students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to better map out their CTE pathway
