DESCRIPTION

What’s extraordinary about being “Number One in Student Satisfaction” for six straight years is that every year Niagara College (NC) welcomes new students, and every year a new student body puts Niagara at the top. The College has its own theory about this record – it’s simple: NC is committed to our students’ success and it’s in all the words we use.

What does that mean? It means that every member of the NC team is deeply committed to the success of every student.

And, with an outstanding array of relevant, in-demand programs offering diplomas, degrees, apprenticeships, and graduate certificates, NC is committed to bringing your dreams to life.

Campuses transformed new student spaces exciting new learning environments expanded green space

Niagara College has transformed its campuses through a $90 million capital

project - the largest expansion in Niagara College history. At Welland, five new

buildings opened in fall 2010, including a new student centre, athletic centre,

academic wing, technology skills expansion and learning commons, and in

spring 2011 the $40 million Applied Health Institute will open its doors. At

Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Wine Visitor + Education Centre opened in 2009,

and in fall 2010 an expansion of the culinary facilities and construction of the

Niagara College Teaching Brewery were complete. The project incorporates the

latest in green technologies resulting in some of the most sustainable buildings

in Niagara. Join us and discover the new Niagara College.

Real World. Real Skills. At Niagara Research, we believe that our students are the most important resource we have. NC students are invited to participate in applied research projects that help our local businesses and community organizations become more innovative, solve problems, and develop new products or processes. Our students have the opportunity to work in research teams with faculty, other students, and local business owners. Working on real-world, applied research projects provides students with the opportunity to bring the skills and knowledge they have learned in the classroom to a new level. This experience broadens employment opportunities for our student research assistants and better prepares them for their future careers. Niagara Research is committed to helping students develop applied research skills.Working at Niagara Research youll learn:

How to establish a proper research question and set a research plan in place to answer itHow to conduct research ethically, safely, and respectfullyHow to make research presentations, document, and write up your activitiesHow to disseminate the results of your work for the benefit of others

Student Research Assistants transfer learning to our businesses and industry through the knowledge they have gained working on applied research projects. A skilled graduate who knows how to ask the right research questions and how to investigate and answer those questions is a very valuable employee.

add to Your CredentialSWhether you begin your post-secondary studies at a college or a university, there are many ways for you to add to your credentials with a degree, diploma or specialized certificate. You can transfer credits to earn a second credential in as short a period of time as possible. You may wish to add a theoretical or professional degree to your career-focused diploma, or transfer degree credits to a practical diploma or certificate program.

    NC diploma graduates have many opportunities to complete a degree at a variety of institutions. When selecting a educational pathways opportunity, you have many factors to consider: type of degree (traditional, applied, professional);

location and credibility of the institution; facilities and equipment available for you; costs of tuition, accommodation, travel and other living expenses; credit granted for your college courses; and the length of time to complete the degree. niagara College proudly presents the Canadian food and Wine institute (CfWi).There is no better place to learn and experience the passion and beauty of food, wine and beer in Canada than in the heart of Niagara at Niagara Colleges Canadian Food & Wine Institute (CFWI).

The CFWI sets a new national and international standard for culinary, wine and brewmaster programming. Located at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus and nestled in the heart of Niagaras rich wine country, the CFWI is surrounded by natural beauty, allowing students to learn in a living laboratory that provides valuable hands-on experience in all aspects of food, wine and beer.

Niagara College is home to Canadas first and only teaching brewery and award-winning commercial teaching winery, along with a world-renowned full-service teaching restaurant that focuses on Canadian regional cuisine. These learning enterprises are located on a 140-acre campus featuring state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, outdoor classrooms, vineyards and gardens.

The CFWI offers three main streams of learning, taking the student and product from land to hand in a way that is entirely unique to Niagara College:

Wine including diploma, certificate and graduate programs in viticulture, wine business management, and sommelier training

Beer including microbiology, brewmastery and brewery operations management

Food including diploma, apprentice, degree and graduate programs in culinary management, chef training, and culinary innovation

All Niagara College programs are developed in consultation with industry to ensure the latest trends, techniques and technology is incorporated into the curriculim. The programs feature experienced faculty and produce well-educated and highly-sought-after graduates who are ready to hit the ground running in Canadas burgeoning wine, food and beer industries.

Students in the field of wine and viticulture learn to grow and harvest grapes, in an on-campus 40-acre teaching vineyard, and use the grapes to produce award-winning wine in the Colleges student-run commercial winery. Students learn to bottle, market and pair wine, and acquire the skills needed to operate a successful winery. The wines of the Niagara College Teaching Winery have won numerous awards and our graduates are in high demand in the local wine industry.

The program covered every aspect of the industry, including winemaking, microbiology, viticulture, wine marketing and sales. I realized that I enjoyed winemaking and decided to pursue it as a career.Jessica Ash, Asst. Winemaker, Marynissen Estates

The wine and tourism industries need real-life business skills to keep pace, and the Niagara College graduate certificate in Wine Business Management gives employees the right skill set to meet the demands of the future.Allan Schmidt, President, Vineland Estate Winery

While mastering the craft of beer-making from beginning to end, students learn to grow hops and craft a variety of beers in the onsite brewery, and bottle, sell and market that same beer, all while learning the business of running a craft brewery.

The Ontario Craft Brewers are excited to be working together with Niagara College to train and develop graduates who meet the needs of a skilled workforce in our brewing industry.John Hay, President, Ontario Craft Breweries

The Institutes world-renowned culinary programs offer hands-on, real-world experience. Students learn to grow the very food they will learn to prepare. With an applied learning opportunity at the public restaurant, everything from cuisine to front-of-house management is experienced. As with all of our learning streams within the CFWI, the local culinary industry is eager to hire our highly-skilled, experienced and knowledgeable graduates.

All programs offered through the CFWI are enhanced and supported by on-and-off-site industry training, research projects, environmental studies, international projects and other opportunities within the Niagara food and wine community.

Niagara is the heart of food and wine in Canada, with more than 100 wineries within a 30-kilometer radius of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, along with countless award-winning restaurants and internationally recognized chefs.
