Internship Opportunities Internships are not a privilege they are a necessity. According to a 2014 report published by the Federal Reserve, millennials are experiencing the weakest job market in the past 50 years. Therefore, it is imperative that students have a competitive resume when seeking employment and other positions. In addition, to providing students with a completive edge, internships present an opportunity to learn field experience not taught in a classroom. Reliable internship postings can be found on Knight Jobs, Indeed.com, Idealist.com, company websites among others. Come visit the Career Development Office to learn more about internship opportunities. GOLD Workshops The Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) program is a unique opportunity for SUNY Geneseo students. This program seeks to equip students with tools to succeed in the world. Each GOLD workshop is centered around a specific theme for all in attendance to enjoy. Upcoming GOLD workshops include Self-Hypnosis, Basic Money Management and many more. Those interested can register online through the Mygeneseo portal or at www.gold.geneseo.edu. GOLD leadership positions are a great resume booster to potential employers. Study Abroad Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime experience for college students. This opportunity allows a student to live in a new country while earning college credit. Students study at local institutions and which enables cultural exposure. Potential employers value study abroad experiences because it shows a willingness to embrace new experiences and other cultures. The Study Abroad office can assist students with researching potential programs that range in duration and destination. Learn more at: www.geneseo.edu/study_abroad . Leila Sedigh | Marketing Intern Leila is a junior Communication major and Business Studies minor from Kings

Park, NY. She is the music & comedy coordinator for the Geneseo Campus

Activities Board and a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon. You can usually find her in

the union, drinking her much needed Starbucks with friends. This semester

along with being a Career Development intern, Leila will be interning with

'Stache Media, a division of Sony Music, bringing her one step closer to

accomplishing her dream of working in the music industry.

Kairra Monroe | Marketing Intern

Kairra is a senior Accounting major from Elmont, NY. She is a JFEW

SUNY International Relations and Global Affairs scholar with a passion for food and travel. Before embarking on her senior year, she interned at the

New York Society for Security Analyst. When she is not in the Career Development office, you can find her tutoring in South Hall or catching up

with friends. Kairra aspires to become a CPA and hopes to give back to her community.

Anna Grace Kelly | Marketing Intern | Career Mentor

Anna is a senior Communication major and Business Studies minor from Rochester, NY. She spent this past summer working as a Public Relations Intern at Lifetime Care, and is also interning for the Department of Student Life this

semester. She is an active member of Sigma Kappa and serves as the Vice President of Communication. Anna enjoys travelling and has been to nine

countries thus far! Anna hopes to pursue a career in marketing or event planning upon graduation this May.

Derrick Gyamfi | Career Mentor Derrick is a junior Accounting major with a minor in Finance. Outside of the Department of Career Development, Derrick is the Strategic Initiatives and Special

Projects Intern for Campus Auxiliary Services where he hopes to utilize his skillsets in an effort to maximize the Geneseo experience. In addition, he is an

active member of the student managed investment fund (SMIF), a PWC tutor for financial accounting, and a trained respondent with the SUNY Geneseo First Response. In the long run, Derrick aspires to be a CPA and pursue his MBA in

Finance which he hopes to employ in the areas of accounting and finance, business

intelligence, consulting, and professional sports.

Megan Jones | Career Mentor

Megan is a junior Business Administration major from Binghamton, NY. She is a member of Sigma Delta Tau, SHRM, Habitat for Humanity. Megan

is passionate about fitness and has a love for volunteering. Prior to attending SUNY Geneseo, Megan was a Division 1 rowing athlete. Her lifelong dream

is and move to the Big Apple to pursue her dream of consulting for a multinational company.

Tarinah Faircloth | Career Mentor

Tarinah is a senior Psychology major from Milton, NY. She enjoys going to the gym, reading, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed being a

resident assistant, a peer tutor, and a teaching intern because of her passion to help others. Tarinah aspires to become an Occupational Therapist because she

loves to learn about how the body and mind work unitedly. Her goal is rooted in her belief that anyone can attain the highest quality of life with support and

guidance from her loved ones.

Katie Patterson | Career Mentor Katie is a senior Mathematics major from Colden, New York. This past

summer she spent eight weeks doing research at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon where she did a lot of hiking and saw the Pacific Ocean for

the first time. When she isn’t in class or in Career Development, Katie is a Geneseo tour guide and enjoys going to the gym. Upon graduating in May

she hopes to attain a job working at a college or university and put the skills that she has learned in college to good use.

Networking 101: How to Make a Lasting Impression

September 19th – MacVittie College Union Hunt Room

This workshop teaches students the fundamentals of networking such as

proper introductions, memorable elevator pitches, polite social navigation and

event etiquette. Other topics discussed will include online networking and

utilizing the tools of LinkedIn and other social media websites.

Unpacking Study Abroad

September 26th – MacVittie College Room 322/323

In this interactive workshop, students will learn the invaluable skill of linking

their study abroad experiences with future goals. This workshop teaches

students how to transfer and apply skills from abroad onto resumes and other

employer related documents.

Advanced Interviewing Skills

September 27th – MacVittie College Union Hunt Room

This workshop provides students with an in depth understanding of behavioral

based interviews, salary negotiation, handling multiple job offers and graceful

declination of offers. Students will also be exposed to professional role playing,

interview scenarios and pre-employment testing.

Finding an Internship

September 28th – MacVittie College Union Hunt Room

This workshop covers the basics of finding that first internship. Instructors will

discuss how to navigate popular search websites, networking and available

college resources. A brief overview regarding resumes, cover letters, the

application process and college credit options will also be discussed.
