Cardiovascular system
Computer simulation:Exploring Biology: Cardiovascular System
Work in pairs at Macintosh computers
The computer displays a Work Window on the left- set and display variables
Model Window on the right- displays the heart and circulatory system, displays a number
of tools
GO Starts the simulation and re-sets all variables to their original values
STOP Stops the simulation
CONTINUE- Re-starts the simulation, without returning variables to original valuesARROW- To open and close windows, to touch buttons, set activity levels
VESSEL- Used in ex. 6 to view cross-sections of the coronary arteries
Ex 1, Function of the circulatory system-distinguish arteries, veins, and capillaries and
functions of each
Open folder CVS Activities --open file Exploring CVS ---- select doc 2)
CirculationThen click Cycle One.
Ex. 2, Major features of the heart.
Click on the heart buttonEx. 3, Cardiac physiology. To record oxygen and blood pressure data from each of the
chambers of the heart
Select 3) the human pump---Click on O2 and pressure study
Ex. 4, Effects of exercise on heart function. Determine stroke volume and calculate
cardiac outputSelect 4) fitness---click jumping test
Ex. 5, Coronary artery disease and heart attack. Effects of coronary artery disease on heart
function.Select heart Attack under CVS activities---click on Mr. Hartman starts climbing
stairs, follow instructions
Ex. 6, Therapy for coronary artery disease. Describe two therapies to overcome these
effects.
Select Mr. Simmons case and Show coronary data, follow instructions
