Carbon Fiber

• A very strong, light and expensive composite material

• the composite material is commonly referred to by the name of its reinforcing fibers (carbon fiber). The polymer is most often epoxy, but other polymers, such as polyester, vinyl ester or nylon, are sometimes used. Some composites contain both carbon fiber and other fibers such as Kevlar, aluminium, and fiberglass reinforcement.

Carbon Fiber : Origin

• The first carbon fiber was made in 1957 by accident in Cleaveland Ohio

• The first carbon made is not the same as today but it was the basis of what it is today.

• Throughout the years the making of this product has improve to make it better

• Dr roger bacon made the initial fiber in Union Carbide Parma technical Center outside Cleaveland

Origin

• He was heating resulting in Carbon Fibers. Those fibers were not as strong because it was only made 20 percent carbon.

Present

• Now it is made out of 55 percent carbon that makes it tougher than what it was before.

• The process used is called Polycrytomtride Pan,Pan is an organic polymer.

Uses

• They use carbon fiber for cover in laptops.• They also make cars out of carbon fiber.
