Columbia Heights High School Band Space Needs

The High School band classroom will not meet the future needs of the expanding program

• The numbers of students in the band has been growing over the last 10yrs.• The district received several grants from VH1 save the music foundation• The district invested in additional staff and resources• The district has received smaller grants from the city of Columbia Heights

activity fund to support band students• These grants and investments continue to strengthen and grow the band

programing at Columbia Heights Schools

• The current space has lower ceilings resulting in poor acoustics and potential safety hazards.

• The current individual practice spaces need upgrading

After a walkthrough of the building by staff and consulting engineers, we are unable to find a space

large enough to accommodate the expanding band program

Columbia Heights High School Band Space Needs

Columbia Heights High School New Band Space

• Separate practice spaces

• Instrument repair and cleaning room

• Sufficient instrument storage

• Furnishings (chairs, risers, podium, etc..)

• Additional natural lighting

• Improved acoustics

Rendering of the New Band Space

• Fees $204,000

• Total Estimated Project Costs $2,566,188

Columbia Heights High School Gymnasium Improved Performance Space

• The (PAC)Performing Arts Center is the only performance space that we have in the district.

• The (PAC)Performing Arts Center is frequently accessed by the community as it is the primary performance space for community groups as well.

• Columbia Heights High School accesses the space for its band, choir, theatre, and musical theatre programming

• Columbia Academy accesses the space for its band, choir, and musical theatre programming

As district performing arts programs are expanding added with community use, additional performance space is required
