What is Capacity to Customers?

Technical Innovation

Current Demand

Latent Capacity

Total available network capacity

Apply remote control equipment to the HV circuit and close the normal open point

Enhance network management software

This effectively doubles the available capacity of the circuit negating the need for traditional reinforcement

New Commercial Contracts

To retain customers’ security of supply we will utilise innovative demand side response contracts

These contracts will allow ENWL to control the consumption of customers on a circuit at the time of fault

Utilised Capacity

Capacity to Customers

Total available network capacity

Combining proven technology and new commercial contracts

Allows ENWL to release significant network capacity back to customers

Facilitating connection of new demand and generation without reinforcement

Monitoring the effect of the trial

We have partnered with the University of Manchester and the University of Strathclyde

Strathclyde Scope of Works includes;• Power System Modelling & Simulation – To inform the hypothesis that ‘C2C

method will reduce like-for-like power losses initially but this benefit will gradually be eroded as newly released capacity is utilised’ and ‘C2C method will improve power quality’

Manchester Scope of Works includes;• Carbon Impact Assessment – To inform the hypothesis ‘C2C method will

facilitate a reduction in the carbon costs of network reinforcement’

• Economic Benefit Analysis - To inform the hypothesis that ‘C2C will facilitate lower reinforcement costs for customers for the connection of a new loads and generation’ and to also consider the wider impacts on both customer and network operator’s business models.
