COMMANDERS CORNEROur Home, Sweet Home
Were probably one of the most blessedsquadrons in all of the United States. Asidefrom the fact we have such wonderful peopleto hang with, we have an incredible home. For an aviation-oriented organization likeours to have their headquarters in an AirMuseum is amazing.
We have our headquarters and we also havethe Museums permission to use the BuddyRogers Theater (which we call the auditori-um) and, if we ask, they will let us use the up-stairs classroom which has flight simulators and we can use the tarmac, the parking lot, space out on the hangar floor.
See what I mean? We really are blessed.
Id like to suggest that we start giving back(more) to the Palm Springs Air Museum and,
that we tighten up our security. Specifically:
1. When the Museum requests a color guardfrom CAP Squadron 11 it would be absolutelywonderful if we always gave them that colorguard. What can we do to ensure that that al-ways happens?
2. Lets take a look at cleaning some airplanes. It would be a great organization/leadership ex-ercise for cadets to lead teams of cadets andSr/Spt Members in using some Pledge and ragsto clean WWII airplanes (in a 1-hour period?).
3. Security. Lets start using the door-bell atour entrance into the Pacific Hanger. We need
to develop a strong awareness that an unau-thorized person might try to enter the Museumthrough our door on a Wednesday night. Thatcould be a real disaster. Also, everyone needsto be aware that there have been instances oftheft from vehicles in the parking lot during ourmeetings many years ago.
Thanks for all you do. Be safe, have fun.
Remember, youre part of a Civil Air Patrolsquadron; the front-line, working, life-savingunit of CAP.

Cadets run for GrubYUCCA VALLEY Two Squadron 11 cadets
and senior members swapped their
boots for sneakers Sunday, May 27 and
aced up for the 17th Annual GrubstakesRun in Yucca Valley.
Answering a challenge set forth by
he Deputy Commander for Cadets,
Cadet Senior Airman Joseph Reynolds
and Cadet Patrick Phillips hit the pave-
ment at the California Welcome Center
anked by senior members Maj. Simon
Housman and 2nd Lt. Sam Aguilar.
Ive never done anything like it, said
Phillips, who completed the 5k road
ace in a time of 24:53.
I just kept a consistent pace. It was a
ot harder than the mile we have to run
at school.
The Grubstakes Run 5k course starts
along Twentynine Palms Highway and
eads runners uphill along an adjacentstreet before flattening out in a midsec-
tion straightaway. Racers make their
way back downhill to finish the run at
the welcome center.
The courses in Yucca Valley areexceptional, Aguilar said of the Grub-
stakes 3.1 mile hilly layout. An avid
runner, the lieutenant was excited to be
joined by cadets for the community run.
It felt great to see them out there
running the course, he said.
Cadet Reynolds posted a time of
19:24. The long distance runner is a
member of both his high school track
and cross country teams and regularly
runs 3 mile courses in prep competition.
A multi-distance event, the Grub-
stakes Run is held in conjunction with
the town of Yucca Valleys annual Grub-
stakes Days celebration held during
Memorial Day weekend. Participants
choose between a 2k, 5k or 10k roadrace courses.
