When images cannot be printed in multi-formatImages cannot be printed in multi-format in the following cases:

1. When a different multi-format has been setIf images that were set for different multi-format are included in the continuous images in a single study, the images from different multi-format is assigned to a different film.In the example in the figure below, when all four images can be printed in multi-format, the number of divisions for the images is set at 2x2. In this case, four images are assigned to one film.In comparison, when only the first two images can be printed in multi-format, the number of divisions is set to 2x2 for the first and second image, but the number of divisions for the third image is set to 1x1. As a result, only the first and second images are assigned to one film.

2. When a different reduction ratio has been selectedIf a different reduction ratio is included in fixed ratio printing, the images with different reduction ratio are assigned to different film even if the same multi-format is set.

3. When a different film size or film orientation has been selectedChange the print settings.

4. When a different printer has been selected as the output destinationSelect the same printer for all the images.

5. When an image taken by the CXDI-31 is includedImages taken by the CXDI-31 are assigned to different films.

Multi-format when images are resent from the study listWhen only one image will be printed, touching [RESEND] on the CALL IMAGES screen automatically assigns images to one film and prints if the same multi-format is set for consecutive images. In the example in the figure below, if image 1 is reproduced and printed when the study has five images, only image 1 is printed. However, if any of images 2 to 5 are reproduced and printed, images 2 to 5 are all assigned to one film at 2x2 and output.

Furthermore, if LOCAL TEMP STORAGE, STORAGE or EXTERNAL DISK STORAGE has also been selected as the destination, images 2 through 5 will be output to it.

3 Set the REX.

Touch or to select a setting from1 to 16383.Or, touch the frame and enter the value from the ten key window. The larger the number, the lighter the entire image. The smaller the number, the darker the entire image.

BONE #2The low density area can be seen almost the same as in BONE #1. However, soft tissue in a high density area can be observed more clearly.

CHEST #2 This is the version of the CHEST gray scale curve that supports high contrast.

BONE #3 This is the version of the BONE #1 gray scale curve that supports high contrast.

BONE #4 This is the version of the BONE #2 gray scale curve that supports high contrast.

REX usage examplesTo observe over time a patient whose image has been taken before, take the image using the same exposure conditions, contrast, and gray scale curve as before. You can also observe under the same conditions by setting the gray scale to REX ADJUST. and setting the REX to the same value as before.

REXWhen REX is adjusted, the LUT graph shifts in the pixel value direction (right figure).

An enlarged graph is shown below.

This graph depicts an REX for a chest front exposure. The name of the quadrants, from the upper right in counterclockwise direction, are as follows: the first quadrant, the second quadrant, the third quadrant and the fourth quadrant. The first quadrant is the gray scale curve showing the relationship between pixel and density. The third quadrant is the sensor characteristics curve, showing the relationship between the X-ray dose that has reached the sensor and the sensor output value. The fourth quadrant is the logarithm conversion curve, which converts the sensor output value (proportional to the X-ray dose) into a pixel value proportional to the logarithm of X-ray dose. Only the right half of the graph (the first and the fourth quadrants) will be explained here to simplify the explanation.

First, an explanation of the algorithm that determines the gray scale curveThe CXDI selects the maximum pixel value of the upper lung area as the analysis value for chest PA exposure. In the above graph, the analysis value is 1220. Suppose 1.9 D has been specified as the density at the analysis value position. The gray scale curve shifts in the horizontal direction. The amount by which it shifts is determined by the position where the arrow from the analysis value intersects with the arrow from the density.

Next, an explanation of the algorithm that determines the REX.The REX is determined by using the gray scale curve. The position where the arrow from the gray scale curve at reference density 0.75 D (fixed) intersects with the logarithm conversion curve is the REX. Thus, the sensor output value corresponding to the area expressed as density 0.75 D is the REX.0.75 D is the density when the printer LUT is linear, the maximum density is 3.2 D, and the minimum density is 0.2 D.

7.5 EDGE ENHANCE.

NOTE: When parameters are set to excessively high values, artifacts may be generated or effective image information may be degraded. If you think the image looks as if it has been over-processed, set the parameters to lower values, or void the process.

The edge enhancement process emphasizes the edges of the image and sharpens the image. However, it is difficult to check the effect of changes by modifying the parameters in the QA screen.

EDGE ENHANCE Screen

1 Enable edge enhancement.

Touch and highlight (white character) [EDGE ENHANCEMENT].

2 Set the degree of enhancement.

Touch or to select a setting from 1 to 11.The displayed value on the left is the saved value, and the value on the right is the modified value. The effect is proportional to the setting value.Higher values result in higher emphasis, and lower values result in lower emphasis.

3 Set the enhancement frequency.

Touch or to select a setting from 1 to 11.The displayed value on the left is the saved value, and the value on the right is the modified value. The larger the value, the clearer the definition of detailed (high frequency) structures, such as bone trabeculae. Low frequency values result in clearer definition of larger (low frequency) structures, such as soft tissue.

The settings and corresponding frequencies are shown below:

7.6 DEP (Display Enhancement Processing)

NOTE: When parameters are set to excessively high values, artifacts may be generated or effective image information may be degraded. If you think the image looks as if it has been over-processed, set the parameters to lower values, or void the process.

NOTE: If you wish to adjust both the LUT (→ page 70) and the DEP, void the DEP by touching the DEP button in DEP mode so the word is not highlighted. Adjust the LUT of the main area of interest in LUT mode first. Then, adjust the area of lesser interest with DEP parameters.

DEP widens the range that can be viewed on film or monitor by narrowing the pixel value range of areas of lesser interest without changing the view of the microstructure of the area of main interest. The effect of changes by modifying the parameters can be checked in the QA screen.

DEP Screen

1 Enable DEP.

Touch and highlight (white character) [DEP].

2 Set the high density effect.

Touch or to select a setting from +10 to -10.The value on the left is the value analyzed automatically (DEP analysis value). The value on the right is the effectivity that will be added to the analyzed value on the left side (table below). The larger the number, the stronger the processing. However, too large a value can make the parts of the image not covered by the patient very light, resulting in a poorer image.

4 Set the low density effect.

Touch or to select a setting from +10 to -10.Although large values will improve the visibility of low density regions of the image, the use of too large a value may result in an increase of the graininess of the image. The value on the left is the value analyzed automatically (DEP analysis value). The value on the right is the efficacy that will be added to the analyzed value on the left side (table below). The larger the number, the stronger the processing.

Suppose the analyzed value is 0.50. If the setting is +1, the DEP will be 0.45. If the setting is -1, it will be 0.55.If the analyzed value is 1.00, it is the same as if the DEP had not been performed. The effect is limited to the 0 to 1 range.

5 Set the starting level of low density.

Touch or to select a setting from +10 to -10.The value on the left is the value analyzed automatically (DEP analysis value). The value on the right is the efficacy that will be added to the analyzed value on the left side (table below).A larger starting level results in a wider effect range, and a smaller starting level results in a narrower range.

Suppose the starting level is 1500. If the setting is +1, the starting level will be 1600. If the setting is -1, the level will be 1400.

Notes on CXDI Adjustment

Before Calibration1. The temperature in the room when performing calibration must be the same as during an ordinary exposure.

Otherwise, you will not be able to obtain a uniform image.2. Wait for the sensor unit to stabilize before calibrating the instrument (approximately 30 minutes after turning

ON the power).3. Do not use a AEC (Automatic Exposure Control).4. A more uniform image may be obtained by setting the tube voltage and exposure time to values used

frequently during the actual exposures.5. Uniformity of image may be improved when the exposure is performed many times.

Four or more exposures should be done.6. If the sensor unit’s grid is detachable, also refer to the hardware operating manual.7. When a multiple number of sensors are used, perform the calibration for each of the sensors.8. When a single sensor is set for a multiple number of sensor units, perform the calibration for each of the

units.9. With the CXDI-40G COMPACT, do not remove the grid.

When calibration is to be performed, ask the service technician to do this job.

During Calibration1. Align the system as for an ordinary exposure, such as when the whole imaging area of the sensor unit will

be exposed.Although calibration can be performed even by irradiating part of the sensor unit, you will not be able to obtain a normal image for the areas that have not been irradiated by x-rays.

2. Do not put any lead mark on the sensor unit, or place any object between the sensor unit and the X-ray tube.Such an object will appear on all the pictures.

3. If the message “Calibration Error.” “Too Much/Little Dose. Or collimator is used.” is displayed, perform calibration again after adjusting the X-ray exposure condition.

During Self Test1. Perform the exposure using the same settings as calibration for the exposure parameter settings and grid

usage. With the CXDI-40G COMPACT, proceed to undertake the self test while leaving the grid in place.2. In some cases, an error may be detected in TEST1 due to unintended exposure of the ion chamber or photo

timer inside the sensor unit. This is not a malfunction, and you may continue usage as before.3. Align the system as for an ordinary exposure, such as when the whole imaging area of the sensor unit will

be exposed. If a partial exposure occurs, an error may be detected.
