WINTER2010
Oregon NORMLs Cannabis Caf opened in Portland at 4:20 PM on Nov. 13, the first of its kind inthe United States.
The response has been overwhelming, says Madeline Martinez, Executive Director of Oregon
NORML. We are excited to be able to provide a safe place for patients to medicate that is out of pub-lic view within the guidelines of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act (OMMA). There needed to be aplace where people can socialize and network, much like our meetings, said Martinez. Many pa-tients travel to Portland for medical care and treatment and otherwise they have no place to use theirmedicine during their long and exhausting trips.
Since the cafe opened at Rumpspankers, 700 NE Dekum St, Portland, stories have appeared in mostmajor Oregon newspapers and TV stations. Martinez was on OPBs Think Out Loudtalk show andattended a neighborhood association meeting to reassure them that the lounge will be a positive ad-dition to the community.
Beyond local coverage, news of the cannabis caf was covered by USA Today, Reuters, the New YorkTimes, Democracy Now and the Huffington Post, to name a few. A Google search even shows the
Reuters article has posted on a website called Visit Bulgaria!
Members must be registrants of the Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) and members of OregonNORML to gain entrance. The entry fee is $25 to cover the first month of membership and an entrypass. Basic membership to Oregon NORML is $35.00 per year and is available at the door.
Kudos go out to Madeline and her family for handling the huge job of the daily management of thecaf and to all of you who have shown your support by volunteering your time to make this happen.

This years awards celebrated out ninth year of the Oregon Medical Can-nabis Awards (OMCA). Many who participate have been with us year af-ter year. Despite storm warnings and weather scares throughout thestate, the event saw a steady stream throughout the day and a full ban-quet in the evening.
The highlight of the day was the Danny Danko grow seminar. He pre-sented a wealth of information to all who attended. The three-hourseminar focused on all aspects of cannabis cultivation geared to the Ore-gon Medical Marijuana Program participant.
The banquet featured John Trudell, a Santee Sioux activist, artist, actorand more, as keynote speaker. His speech gave us all pause to reflect onour individual and collective importance to the cannabis movement.
The big surprises this year were the award winners. This years top threeentrants have not been in the top three before. First place went to PurpleUrkel. Second place was awarded to Afgani Bull Rider, and third placewent to Limon. You can get the full list of how each strain placed atwww.ornorml.org.
Winners, please help us out and make clones of all the entries availableat future Oregon NORML cardholder meetings. We appreciate all ofyou!
