BIBLIOGRAPHY

MARY STEVENS

Canadian Publications on the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe for 1982 This is the seventh annual bibliography of works pertaining to the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, as well as to the peoples of those countries set- tled in Canada, published by Canadian scholars. The primary purpose of the bibliography is to provide an up-to-date research tool for persons work- ing in the area. It is also hoped that it will make known the range of activities and areas of expertise of Canadian scholars.

The bibliography notes over 400 monographs, articles, review articles, identifiable sections of books, signed encyclopedia entries, and published occasional papers, as well as 16 doctoral dissertations accepted by Canadian universities. Reviews, newspaper articles, mimeographed papers, and belles- lettres have been excluded.

For the purpose of this bibliography "Soviet and East European" refers to all Slavic areas and the remaining territory of the Soviet Union, Finland, the Baltic states, Hungary, Rumania, Albania, and East Germany (after 1945), but not to Turkey, Austria, Greece, China, or international Commun- ism outside the bloc. Scholarly material pertaining to settlers from the included countries in Canada is also listed. The bibliography is for 1982 and includes 1982 imprints and journals dated 1982. Items dated prior to 1982, but that actually appeared in 1982, as well as items omitted from the 1981 bibliography have also been included. (Journal dates are 1982 unless other- wise indicated.)

This bibliography is a product primarily of submissions by members of the Canadian Association of Slavists. Additional entries were provided by the compiler after a survey of some 200 leading journals in the field. Svitlana Hrybinsky compiled the Ukrainian entries and her valuable assistance is greatly appreciated. In a few instances, recent issues could not be consulted either because they were being bound or were late in production. Readers are requested to bring any omissions to the attention of the compiler and especially to submit lists of their 1983 publications to the journal's offices.
