BIBLIOGRAPHY

Ν. G. ZEKULIN

Canadian Publications on the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe for 1976

This is the first annual bibliography of works pertaining to the Soviet Union and eastern Europe, as well as to the peoples of those countries settled in Canada, published by Canadian scholars. The primary purpose of the bibliography is to provide an up-to-date research tool for persons working in the area. It is also hoped that it will make known the range of activities and areas of expertise of Canadian scholars.

The bibliography notes more than 300 monographs, articles, review articles, identifiable sections of books, signed encyclopaedia entries and published occasional papers. Six doctoral dissertations accepted by Canadian universities are included and are intended as a supplement to the bibliography for 1950-75 published by G. R. Barratt in the Canadian Slavonic Papers, vol. XVIII, no. 2 (June 1976), pp. 187-98. Reviews, newspaper articles, mimeographed papers and belles-lettres have been excluded.

For the purpose of this bibliography "Soviet and Eastern European" refers to all Slavic areas plus the remaining territory of the Soviet Union, Finland, the Baltic states, Hungary, Romania, Albania and East Germany (after 1945), but not to Turkey, Austria, Greece, China or international communism outside the bloc. Scholarly material pertaining to settlers from the included countries in Canada is also listed.

The bibliography is for 1976 and includes 1976 imprints and journals dated 1976. Items dated prior to 1976, but which actually appeared in 1976, have also been included. (Journal dates are 1976 unless otherwise indicated.)

This bibliography is a product primarily of submissions by members of the Canadian Association of Slavists. Additional entries were provided by the compiler after a survey of some 200 leading journals in the field. In this regard, the compiler wishes to thank Alexander Malycky for his advice and assistance. In a few instances, recent issues could not be consulted either because they were being bound or were late in publication. Readers are requested to bring any omissions to the attention of the compiler and especially to submit lists of their 1977 publications to the journal's offices.
